Fantastic location, great breaded prawns and lemon pepper calimari! Chips… Perfect every time! Atmosphere is perfect for anytime during the day or week for catching up with friends. Has a fine dining feel but more like that cozy pub on the corner!!!

St Heliers Bay is like the chilled, laid-back sister of neighboring Mission Bay and the restaurants here also reflect that vibe. On a balmy Autumn afternoon a friend and I were looking for some beachfront dining and decided on the small plates dining at Moretons. No outdoor tables were available when we arrived but waitstaff were happy for us to shuffle ourselves when one became open. We were glad we did; despite the restaurant being largely open there was very little breeze until we were outside. We ordered three plates between us, the prawns, the venison and some fries to share. My friend particularly enjoyed the salsa that came with the prawns. The venison was thinly sliced and well-prepared. I was unsure as to how the chocolate dressing would work but it was a fantastic counterpoint to the smoky flavour of the meat. In addition, we got cocktails(because why not!) — my friend settled on one of the $ 8 specials and liked it so much she got another. I chose the classic mojito which was ideal for sitting in the sun. Service both at the bar & at the table was a little bit rushed and that’s why I’ve knocked it down to four stars. I can totally appreciate being busy but it takes only a few seconds to smile. Don’t let you put that off though; if you are looking for a relaxing afternoon beverage or some deliciously different menu options, this is your place.

Such a great place! There was an issue with our booking for my dinner following graduation but the staff were all amazing and the manager did his best to accommodate our table of 8 when the restaurant was busy. The staff all made me and my friend graduating feel welcome and the food was just as great as the service!

The food is average and despite having a children’s menu they are not kid friendly at all. Try st Heliers café — the food is much nicer and its a nicer atmosphere for dining. Moretons is my least favorite place to eat at in the neighbourhood. It’s more of a watering hole for locals especially in the evenings.

Moreton’s is in a good location; just opposite the beach in St. Heliers, making it a good spot to catch some afternoon sun whilst having a cheeky drink. Be aware though: if you’re not from this area, you might be a bit surprised, as I was, with the price of drinks. $ 11 for a pint of pretty standard Mac’s cider seems a little bit pricy to me. Maybe that’s standard for people who live in million dollar houses, but for the rest of us plebs it’s a little exorbitant. Like many bars, this one has a plague of television screens infesting it; great if you’re there to watch a game, but otherwise why not just let people look at the great view?

Moreton’s is the local of the Glendowie and St Heliers communities but is a great spot for others to visit for a waterfront meal and drink. With almost as much seating outside as inside, to make the most of its prominent position on Tamaki Drive, heaters provide warmth during the colder months and there is an array of seating options for all groups, from bar leaners and stools to seated tables. After having gone through as many name changes and refits as I can remember in 20 or so years, Moreton’s seems to have stuck and proved particularly successful. It’s versatility as a bar and restaurant seems to have been the answer, with the meals being good, hearty bar feeds, of a slightly better quality than the latter. Moreton’s also has daily specials such as a bucket of mussels, or traditional happy hour deals.

Moretons has been a very successful bar and restaurant for the past five years in St Heliers Bay. It is never empty, and is particularly busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, where patrons either enjoy the live music that is playing or alternatively watch the current rugby game in progress on the big screen inside the bar. If you are planning on eating here for a special occasion, such as Mothers or Fathers Day, then I would recommend booking ahead, as often tables fill out fast and there is a wait of customers to sit down. The bar has a nice selection of beers on tap, including the German wheat beer Erdinger, which is my personal favourite. Also a popular choice I would recommend is that of Rekorderlig Cider, which comes in either wildberry or strawberry and lime flavours. Moretons also is a popular event or function location, as they have a private dining room available and are flexible in creating a menu that serves your tastes for the occasion.
