Music in Parks 2013 was a hit, and with the beautiful summer days that we had this season everything was just sweet as perfect. I managed to plan in two visits to music in parks one showing the Auckland band I am Giant in Mt Albert and the finale to the event a few weeks back at Nixon Park in Kingsland. I happily watched Avalanche City perform, got up to dance with the crowd and even met the lead singer of the band after to have a pic taken. I love the vibe that you get at Music in Parks, really positive, happy, and relaxed. Just the way summer intended it to be. There were lots of yummy food stalls, and my fave to beat the heat Whites and Co frozen yoghurt! Yum yum! Lots of space to spread a blanket and enjoy wicked free music whilst enjoying another beautiful Auckland park.

Every summer the Auckland Council puts on free ‘music in parks’ events all over Auckland. One time at my local park I watched Tim Finn perform. For free. These are a great way to spend a summers afternoon — with a picnic, or dancing at the front, whatever you prefer! You could explore an area of Auckland you may not have visited before by going to one of these events. I tell my friends that one of the reasons I enjoy living in Auckland is there is so much on, and that many of these events are free. I think Music in Parks are pretty cool, so if you have never been, next summer when you see it being advertised be sure to try and get to one. Check their website for dates and info. You can also follow them on Twitter or find them on Facebook to be kept up to date.
