I love No. 1 pancake! As a typical broke student it’s always great to find a place where I can get cheap, delicious food. I’m a big fan of the classic ham and cheese, but the beef and bacon options are both pretty tasty too! Mmm I’m getting hungry, time for another pancake!

This place was closed for a long long holiday(like 4 weeks!?), but they finally re-opened on my last day in Auckland and I am glad that I was able to catch them before I left town. I had the chicken and cheese pancake in which the meat and cheese are actually infused into the dough of the pancake before cooking. It was warm and delicious and filling. If you are looking for something cheap and good in Auckland this is definitely a great option.

Simple street food. Acceptable quality. Wouldn’t say it’s the best food ever in Auckland. They make their pancake fresh so there is a small wait. You can pick from vege, ham, chicken, beef, or bacon fillings with cheese. Nice toasty hot when it comes. There are many foods stands nearby. I guess it’s a good way of getting some good value food on the go.

This place is a must try! My son ordered the ham and cheese and I ordered the chocolate. They were both delicious. We ended up sharing and really enjoying both the sweet and savory flavors. I dare say this was the best thing I ate my entire stay in Auckland and it was also the least expensive. We were able to stroll and sample the warm deliciousness as we walked and it was quite an enjoyable experience! I love that you can stand and watch the food being made; you can see the entire kitchen. Anyone one in Auckland should at least sample this place. I am sure you will become and regular and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Tasty savory and sweet Korean pancakes made hot to order from this roadside kitchen near Queen St. Flavours include ham and cheese and red bean. Great for lunch or just a warming snack

Bomb dot com. Seriously these pancakes are so delicious and cheap! They make them right after you order and you get to watch them make it. I’ve tried the mashed potato with cheese and the bacon and cheese, both fabulous. Really great when you are craving some comfort food. I ate one of my pancakes while watching a movie at the Event Cinemas. Way better than popcorn :)

Their mashed potatoes and cheese pancakes tastes like childhood! I haven’t tried their sweet pancakes yet but the savouries are really good. It’s really fast, you don’t have to wait too long even though there are a lot of people waiting. Customer service is great, really nice team. Super cheap which makes it even tastier. Highly recommended for a quick snack or lunch.

There is such a dearth of street food around Auckland’s CBD that we’re lucky this place is both fantastic and cheap! I like to come to this place when I’m feeling a little indulgent and my wallet’s feeling a little light. The pancakes here are nice and oily and full of either cheese or sugar — definitely comfort food! It’s good for a quick meal and even when there’s a daunting crowd around the stall, the staff manage to get your order to you pretty quickly, and are always really pleasant to deal with. I would note that their savoury pancakes err on the saltier side, but it’s nothing major.

The perfect Korean stand and to have delicious pancakes. Nothing fancy, but it’s quickly done and so delicious. Will advise any one to go for a short snack or if you have a sweet tooth. Just loving it. And will go back for sure.

This tiny stall in the CBD really packs a big punch! Traditionally, ‘hotteok’ as these delicious pancakes are called in Korea are a lot smaller and only sweet. It’s really refreshing to see a modern twist to make them bigger and to have so many savoury options all for under $ 5! They are very organized and efficient considering the size of the stall and the overwhelming popularity. The only thing is that I wish there was a bit more filling which was a bit more flavourful(beyond just drowning in cheese). Also, in Korea the stalls offered free self-serve cuddlefish broth which I miss dearly but will take what morsels of authentic Korea I can get!

I now totalllllly understand the reason behind No. 1 Pancake’s crowd control issue. $ 4 for a steaming, made to order traditional Korean pancake will attract quite the gathering. So much so that they have a signpost asking customers to kindly keep to the sides of the footpath as not to block all other pedestrian traffic(which definitely would happen with the large number of people stopping by for their share of pancakes!). Service is friendly, pleasant and with a smile. Location is extremely convenient too(right across from the Central library) so you can probably make excuses to pass by alllll the time ;) To be clear, this is a takeaway kiosk — there’s no seating available(although plenty of public outdoor benches around). The pancakes are very tasty. Another great thing is that they’re so versatile… sweet and savoury options to satisfy any craving(lunch, dinner, a snack, dessert… basically whatever you want it to be). Plus they’re open«late»(till 7PM weekdays and 6PM Saturdays — no Sundays for now).

I’ve never had curbside hot pancakes before. Never even seen it before(Korean?) My bf and I saw it while passing by and noted the great reviews on Unilocal. We were able to get hold of one(cinnamon/sugar) the morning before we left to go back to the States, and now I wish I’d gotten a few more for the road. Only reason for losing a star is I haven’t come across this where I live, and I’m not sure I’ll find it here… :(

This was my absolute favorite place for a quick bite when I lived in Auckland. The chicken cheese was my favorite, but I tried all and was never disappointed. The price was great too! Sometimes I’d go to the library just to have an excuse to stop there! So unique, a must for all tourists!

I love No.1 Pancke! It is the best place in the city for a cheap lunch or a tasty snack. I have endeavoured to try them all but can’t go past my favourites, chicken & cheese, potato & cheese and chocolate. Even when they have a huge line it still only takes 5 minutes and the service is always very friendly. For only $ 3-$ 4.50 they are a steal, and are so filling.

No 1 Pancake gets 5 stars because I really do not see how they can lose a star in my book! That’s the perfect cheap and cheerful, hole in the wall type of place I like to discover when I arrive in a new city. For the cash-deprived traveller that I was when I first arrived in Auckland, No 1 was the perfect option to fill my belly with a tasty and dare I say balanced«meal» without upsetting my wallet. I love their savoury and sweet pancakes equally and I like the fact that there are coloured plates on display to show how big the sweet and savoury pancakes are. The sweet ones are smaller but don’t get fooled, they are still quite filling. The chocolate one is so delish I have never had the will to try their red bean one… «One day!» I keep telling myself… If you try it, I look forward to hearing all about it!

Pancakes, Pancakes and More Pancakes! This place is a grand little corner shop when you’re looking for a cheap and yummy snack or lunch. They are always insanely busy, because let’s face it, people love a good deal! Though very, very greasy, it’s hard to stop eating them. Whether its chicken or chocolate flavoured, cheesy or plain, it just melts in your mouth and fills your empty hole of a stomach for ages. You kinda wish they had longer hours, or even a proper café, so you could enjoy them all the more. My recommendation is DONOT go around lunch time. Go slightly before or after, so you can get the freshest pancake, and not have to fight with the hungry mob. Enjoy your taste of Korean Pancake goodness.

If you can’t find Number One Pancake, just look for a gathering of people on the footpath outside. A true hole-in-the-wall, Number One sells Korean-style pancakes, and if you haven’t tried them yet, you’re in for a treat. They’re simple, they’re greasy, they’re ultra-cheap, and they’re scrumptious. The fillings are simple and classic — savoury options include cheese, chicken, ham, pineapple, and veges, and they do sweet ones too like red bean, chocolate chip and peanuts. Encouragingly, it’s all so freshly made that they sometimes have to close a little early because they run out of ingredients. I love that.
