Nori is a nice little Japanese place in Parnell. I feel like Parnell is kind of an easy destination to forget about when it comes to eating choices, but it shouldn’t be because Nori is actually quite good. The menu is generally speaking, quite generic Japanese. They do ‘stonegrill’ meals which is a little unusual, but the sushi, sashimi etc is all pretty standard. The quality is pretty good, especially with regards to the raw fish and the teriyaki chicken. Overall, a pleasant place to eat — nice-ish modern interior, friendly staff, good food presentation, averagely priced and has parking available around the corner — something you need in Parnell on a Wed-Sat night. A-OK.

I had not heard of Japanese stone grill before, but here we are, Nori serves it. But not just stonegrill, a wide selection of Japanese delights from sushi and sashimi through to some kind of expensive/complicated set meal and cheap as chips bowls of noodles. There are also the kind of things I like — teriyaka, edamame, tempura and best of all chicken karaage. It is not possible to top a piece of delicious fried chicken! The thing I like most about Nori, besides the wide variety of food on offer, is the kind of cool minimilistic feel of the restaurant. It manages a nice blend of casual and classy, not too overdone or stuffy. I would come here for a nice weeknight dinner or maybe even give the lunch special a try one day.

Nori is sort of a Parnell institution, plus the name is cool. The service here is really good and I like that they wear kimonos, this adds to the authenticity of it all. The food is good, both taste and presentation and considering this I was expecting to pay more, but in fact the food is well priced when you compare it to the other Japanese or even sushi take out places in Parnell. The menu is quite extensive and the staff are very helpful too. The interior of the restaurant is nice and they do have a few tables outside which is pleasant on a sunny day. If you are in Parnell and thinking of Japanese, if you want good food and a nice place to sit and eat it, then Nori is the best I think.
