This is the place to get a sandwich fast. Lots of lunch customers on Wednesday May 2015. Unless you’re hungry just get the small /regular pita sandwich you don’t need the large one

«A torn pita with a torn face» I’ve been to pita pit at botany before so I thought I’d know what I was getting at the viaduct store. Wrong. The faces of all of the staff here looked liked they’d all been fired and then slapped in the face with a wet kipper. Attendant one can’t get the till to work so curses under his breath and gets another staff member to take my order all over again. Then another staff member throws a whole meal pita on the table, pushing two holes into it in the process. It’s chances of holding any filling now foiled. He disappears and another staff member screams his requests, asking what I want in a ‘hurry up, hurry up’ way(there’s nobody else ordering). For the privilege of a small(petita. See what they did there?!) pita that falls apart in seconds, full of holes, a bottle of water and a free insult to the ears you will be charged in excess of 14 of your New Zealand dollars. If they went to the school of good manners and customer service, and also dropped those hefty prices, I might come back to pita pit, but since that’s not happening any time soon, this place is definitely on the no go list for me. Go if: you like bad manners with that big bill. Don’t go if: you are after a friendly service and a cheap lunch. Go to Maccas instead.

This is one of those places that you go to for a few weeks because it’s close to your work, fast and relatively inexpensive, but after a while you get sick of. But if you moderate yourself and only go once a month or so, the food is pretty good. My favourite is the falafel pita so it’s best to go on Mondays so you can get a cheap deal on one. Pita Pit is a bit better than Subway because there is more variation in the salads and it seems a bit fresher. But at the end it is what it is, mass produced and pre-packaged salads that always taste like they’ve been washed within an inch of their lives. But it’s really not a bad choice for lunch if you’re in the mood for something relatively healthy.

I’m usually not a big fan of takeaways that you can make yourself. Now, most people respond to that by saying you can make every takeaway yourself, but have you tried to make a McChicken? Or a Hawaiian BK Chicken? It will never be as good, because the ingredients you use will always be better. Anyway, this is why i’m not a huge fan of Subway — If I want a sandwich, I’ll make it myself. So it should be the same for Pita Pit, but it’s not. I really like Pita Pit, and I really like this Pita Pit in particular. Its location means its in walking distance to a large number of people working in the CBD, and its outdoor seating is fantastic for a Summer like we’ve had. Pick your salads and meats and then get it toasted or not. I am boring and always go for the Chicken Bacon caesar, and i’ve never had a bad one. This store is super clean and crisp and is a nice place to sit and enjoy your lunch.
