ThIs place serve freshly baked scone, muffins and quiches… tried scone and muffin, quite tasty. They are also doing a winter special drink green tea flat white which is great for a change from coffee or hot chocolate.

When you’re on your Monday hustle in the AKLCBD area, fiending for that Monday caffeine fix, look no further than Grind on High(street) for all of your coffee needs. Their service is excellent and their baristas are award winning(Taka is an absolute star)! Having been a regular for the last couple of years, I can definitely vouch for the fact that Grind does the best hot chocolates/coffees in Auckland, and being a hot chocolate connoisseur, thats saying something coming from me. HIGHLY recommend!

What a find! This vault like, small but perfectly formed temple to caffeinated goodness has to be THE best joint for your morning fix! Takahito the barista is a jovial coffee maestro who even tolerates my bad Japanese! They also serve seriously good muffins(not the cake-like diabetic coma type) but good grunty ones. Also scones, Sammie’s and other great on-the-run goodies. Consistently good. Taka starts my heart every morning!!!

Taka the barrister at Grind on high just took him 3rd place at the NZ latte art competition. If you haven’t tried the coffee here already, its worth a visit. I don’t know if many other barristers in Auckland can even come close at achieving at competition level.

According to the bean finder app, Grind on High was highly rated so I went in with a friend one afternoon with high expectations. So you think the place looks busy or is it really just the fact that it is about 1.5m wide and 4m deep? Very small and the way you order is a bit odd. You just sort of end up in the way or staff and other people as both sides are lined with narrow benches and stools and the coffee machine and cabinets are on the right so you have to stand in the middle of it all. Even though they have iPads, just take your coffee and food away. I suspect that Grind on High is more of a take out place anyway. The coffee was not good. I had a long black, it was mostly water, I didn’t drink it all and my friend was unimpressed. We never went back, I don’t see what the big deal is.

Although the Grind on High is one of the smallest cafes, possibly even the smallest shop, that I have ever been in, I still think the coffee and food here are top notch. They make great tasting coffee and people know it because the tiny café is usually cranking, particularly with suits. Pretty uncomfortable really if you want to eat in here, especially sitting on those barstools, so it’s often better to take your purchase away and eat it elsewhere. The food here is pretty nice and quite cheap for an Auckland City café. They do a tasty breakfast roll which is one of my favourites. Come here for the food and drink, but not so much for the atmosphere.
