This place is awesome! The food is indeed top-notch. Came in on a slow Sunday evening and got terrific service while winding our way through a healthy chunk of the tapas menu. My personal favourite was the feta drizzled with lemon juice and chilli — had incredible flavour for such a simple dish! The pan-sizzled garlic and chilli prawns were also fantastic. The meat in the kofte kebab had great flavour, and don’t worry about ordering any dip, because it is served on a very generous platter of hummus and tahini. Also partook of the roast carrots, the garlic mushrooms & chorizo, and the roast paprika potato chunks. Not a bad, nor even mediocre, dish in the whole lot! The service was also great. The staff was very friendly, and we had lengthy conversations with not only our waitress but also the bartender and one of the chefs that came out specifically to meet us. Could not be more pleased with this place, and I’m definitely looking forward to my next visit.(Now the only challenge is to pace myself on the tapas so next time I can try one of the tempting offerings from their impressive dessert display!)

A hip/unique styled bar with great customer service and a unique experience. My only comment would be that something as simple as a shandy is not available on tap and requires you to make it yourself. Though not a negative experience, it would be slightly odd that you need to make your own drink at a bar.

I have been informed by a former owner that my nostalgia for the Circassan chicken was completely misplaced — it was a feature of their former venture, Caravanserai. So apologies for that. Up to 4 stars for consistency, good service and a nice place to eat — vibe is relaxed and décor is interesting.

My favorite restaurant in Auckland! Everything is fresh and delicious! The couches give it a relaxed environment to sip some drinks and munch on the incredible hummus and olives! I couldn’t stop raving about the Greek salad. Everyone loved their dishes… Can’t wait to go back!

The first thing I noted was how friendly and helpful the staff were! Then the food came and it was a great balance of spice, serving size and variety. I’ll be back for sure as the atmosphere is as warm and cosy as the food and staff.

Decided to combat the extremely frosty weather today by visiting the always warm and cosy Mezze Bar on Durham Street East. I had been there before for coffee and naughty mid work day sweet treats, but never for an actual meal. Pictured below is the Turkish lentil and Tomato soup drizzled with lemon juice and paprika oil, served with(hot?) Turkish Pide bread. Although the soup really did hit the winter warmer mark that I hoped for and was reasonably flavourful and seasoned, I was disappointed in the cold Pide bread accompaniment. Nonetheless, not bad for an express work lunch, when you’re looking for a central escape from the cold, but definitely better for a coffee date or evening drink! Not too shabby Mezze.

Mezze Bar has been around for as long as i can remember. It actually surprises me how many people don’t know about it. Mezze is a tapas, espresso and wine bar. One of my favourite central city spots. Located on little high street, tucked away just off Queen street, Mezze bar is very welcoming, cosy and always busy. I particularly like how they have couches plus tables and chairs, i like the option of the comfy couches! Good for lounging on a cold city day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, you name it this is the place! I have been here so many times and tried a large amount of their meals, plus sampled some fantastic antipasto! Personal favs would be: Classic Caesar salad, grilled mushrooms & polenta triangles, the Kofte kebabs, and from the breakfast menu the Huevos Flamencos– soo good. If your after something lighter with a wine, the mezze plate is a great option, the freshly made hummus is fabulous. On the sweeter(very sweet) side the Baklava is always fantastic! The selection of wine at Mezze is also vast, plenty to chose from with a great global selection. I recently tried the Vina Pomal Rioja, which is a tempranillo from Spain, really yummy. So, if you haven’t been here I suggest you give it a whirl. One thing i will say is they are who they are at Mezze, they aren’t trying to be ‘trendy’, so you will either love it, or not enjoy it… I see on their website they are known as an icon in Auckland and have been open 23 years! Cheers,

Delicious tapas and great ambience. Went with a group of friends for food and drinks after a fun CBD activity. Sangria and the Sangria Rose were tasty– not too sweet which can happen sometimes. The food selection was delicious. We ordered many different dishes and I tried most– patatas bravas, slow roasted tomatoes w/bread, feta cheese, mushrooms and chorizo, hummus, meatballs, tortilla española, and roast carrot. Others ordered the prawns and pâté, but they didn’t share with the table(rude). Overall, the food was incredibly flavourful and decent portions. We had a lot left over, even though we each just ordered a couple of things. My favourites were the feta with bread and the mushrooms with chorizo. I have no idea where they get the feta from, but it was salty, smooth, and left me craving more. The mushrooms were well seasoned by the chorizo and made this non-fan of mushrooms wish I had ordered that dish for myself. It was bar service only, but the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend for groups of any size. Could be a nice place for a first date, as well.

This restaurant was great on every level. The atmosphere, the views, the décor, the food, the drinks, everything combined to make this an awesome dining experience. First of all, the décor in this place is rustic and vast. The dining area wraps around the corner of this large building and has great window views of the busy city streets below. When I stopped in for lunch, almost every table was full and everyone was having a great time. I love eating at a restaurant when the energy of the people fuels the staff and the other diners. The menu was very vast but had some great offerings to choose from. I was lucky enough to try the hummus plate($ 10) which featured fresh baked bread and some tomato salsa to go along with it. The hummus was made in house and very garlicky. To accompany the starter, I went with the lamb burger($ 24.5). The combination of lamb, beetroot salad, haloumi cheese, and mint yoghurt formed the perfect filler to their crusty warm roll that it was served on. I would highly recommend this burger; I ended up eating the entire thing. To accompany the great food, the drink selection was very good. For some lunch time drinking, my partner and I decided to split the pitcher of traditional red wine sangria($ 20). It was so fresh and fruity and served with fruit on the side. It was a very good sangria. Overall, this restaurant was a slam dunk. The food was great, the drinks were great, and the service was perfect. The staff seemed to enjoy interacting with their patrons and they were working hard to keep up with the large amount of customers that were having lunch in their restaurant. I loved this restaurant and would recommend it even to my arch nemeses.

Mezze Bar is a great place to go to for a work function, a casual lunch or for a spot of cake and coffee. They serve predominantly Middle Eastern food, plus a range of vegan/vegetarian tapas and mezze options. Last but not least, yummy cakes and puddings! I came here during the week with two colleagues. I had not been to Mezze Bar before, but my two dining companions raved about the delicious food. They both ordered the Smoked Chicken Salad with toasted almonds, vine tomatoes, red pepper, grilled halloumi cheese, fresh herbs and a balsamic vinaigrette($ 19). I ordered the Turkish Lentil and Tomato Soup drizzled with lemon juice and paprika oil and served with hot Turkish pide bread($ 12.50). The Turkish Lentil and Tomato Soup was amazing. Perfect balance of spices and the Turkish pide bread on the side was a nice touch. It is also nice to have something warming and delicious in the wintertime! I also tried some of my colleague’s Smoked Chicken Salad — the halloumi was to die for and the flavours all worked really well together. Next time, I will definitely be ordering that! The service is friendly and the atmosphere funky and it is a very happening place. I would recommed this place to all, because there will be something for everyone on the menu! Make sure you book!

I have been here 3 – 4 times which I guess says what I think about the place. Good food, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. The tapas are all worth a try and the sangria is pretty good too. Worth checking out.

* Just OK * Staff are friendly enough * Was not all that impressed with the mushroom risotto * Also had the sticky-date pudding thing * The caramel wasn’t quite right, too sugary, granulated-y * It made me a little sad inside so I went home and ate ice-cream, the cheap kind from Countdown…

Came here for dinner last night– busy but able to get a table near the front. Shared 2 tapas and 2 mains between 3 of us– the Patatas Bravas were great; can’t go wrong with spiced potato, salsa and aioli. Their homemade hummus was good and nicely balanced by classic greek salad. Was a huge fan of their roasted chicken on risotto. Chicken was done perfect, their risotto was creamy and went down like a treat. Recommend! Must come back for their dessert and drinks!

Tucked away on a side street off of Queen street, this mid-size Tapas spot is perfect for an after work HH or a date with a friend or other. The Sangria was nice, I will say I have had better. But I have also experienced much worse, so it was alright. Nice music in the background, although the sound level can get a tad high. So sit close to your party when talking. I really enjoyed the scene here, it was casual yet almost trendy. I did not try the food, but it smelled darn good so I will be back.

Mezze Bar is one of those places which slips your mind until you — in dire need of victuals in the wastelands of the CBD — stumble upon it once again. Not that you forget about it because it is forgettable, rather, in the hype of jazzy new eateries popping up like adverts on your laptop, old favourites tend to get waylaid. Cam J and I were strolling down Queen St on Thursday evening, after dinner on K Rd. We felt like something sweet — and more wine. Where to go? Mezze. It’s been around for two decades but manages not to be dated, with an extensive Middle Eastern-inspired menu — but not so big that everything is a scrabble. The atmosphere is open yet cosy, and full of chattering people of all ages going or coming from the theatre, cinema, and surrounding bars. The time before this I went with my boyfriend for a late-night supper — the cerviche was perfect and his lamb kebab came in puddles of hummus which were mopped up with pita. And where else can you get a big slice of lemon tart with cream for $ 6.50? The thing that always surprises me is you can go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner and every time you’re left with the feeling that this is the best place the central city has to offer. So by all means go try out the latest fad café which sprung up since you last visited Ponsonby a week ago — but keep Mezze in the back of your mind for when nothing else will do.

Great space over looking the hustle and bustle of Queen Street. Cute Spanish style décor. Relaxed and loungey, good place for a drink or coffee. But if you are after lunch or dinner and don’t want to leave hungry then avoid especially if you were thinking tapas. Value for money is worse than fine dining and without the service. We got prawns for $ 19 and what turned up was one prawn and a handful of shrimp(over cooked like rubber bullets). So if you are on your way to dinner then probably a good place to stop, otherwise be prepared for $$$

Just went to Mezze for the first time last Friday on a friend’s recommendation and I did not know what to expect… Well, to keep it short and sweet: I was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful choice of tapas, some authentic, some with a twist, and… what always wins me over(provided the food is good of course!) great service. My friends and I shared the mezze platter which is perfect for 2 if you just want to nibble. Mezze is obviously really popular as although we came quite early for after-work drinks, it was hard to secure a table. I cannot wait to try more items from their menu so this will be one of my next brunch destinations for sure! One downside for me was that their sangria is not available by the glass. I really wanted to try it but had no one to share a pitcher with as my friends were into white wine and beer… The dessert cabinet was filled with cakes and tarts each more appetising than the other, and I found them decently priced too. So now I am also going to have to try this place for coffee and cake… Life is hard, isn’t it?! ;-)

I like this joint. One time I had to meet someone in the city and couldn’t be bothered going home and then going back into the city, so I just went to Mezze Bar and sat in there for like three hours and bought a beer every hour or so. I also got some great bread platter with a little set of oils and so feta cheese. It was fucking great. I think I kind of fiddled with the nice little candles they have. Man, it rocked. The food is probably the cost of normal ‘nice café’ food. So that’s good. I’m going to take off one star because their toilets have very annoying doors and are painted a terrible colour. Otherwise, it’s all g.

Mezze bar sort of covers all bases. They open at 7 am for breakfast and remain open until late in the evening and can because of a large menu offering. The food for the most part is middle Eastern, items such as fresh hand made Turkish Delight and Egyptian orange cake can be found in the cabinet and there is a large tapas menu. What I do really like about Mezze Bar is they have a separate Vegan menu, it takes the guess work out of it for me. I find the service is always good here, nice atmosphere too. The interiors are confusing but that aside a nice place to hang out and relax no matter what time of the day. I still come here often, though the coffee is a bit hit and miss. The long blacks are too long, or I have become very critical when it comes to caffeine.

Mezze Bar is an amazing space — on the first floor overlooking Queen Street it’s perfectly removed from the hustle but right in the centre of town. In the day time it’s filled with wonderful buttery natural light, and in the evening its spacious enough to stay cool(ish). Unfortunately I’ve had a bit of a mixed bag from Mezze — sometimes it’s been absolutely perfect, with an amazing atmosphere, great service, food, and drinks. But then a couple of times I’ve been and the service has been crap(they forgot my order once), and food forgettable(a lousily cooked brunch). But it certainly deserves another go, and I’ll be back again no doubt.
