Great food and beer selection. I like the décor, very relaxing. I’ve been in Auckland for a month now and have received pretty mediocre table service(I suppose this is expected since tipping isn’t customary in NZ)…anyway, this place gives awesome service. I dare to say it is the BEST service I have received in any of the Auckland restaurants I’ve been in. The waitresses were pleasant and attentive(: it was the kind of service I went out of my way to tip for. Definitely want to come back and try other dishes.

Overrated! People say great fish and chips and I say humbug, if that mediocre crap they served is what you think is great fish and chips then your taste buds are broken, won’t go back and if you are hunting for great fish and chips there are many better places

Came here just the once and really could not complain about the food, drink and atmosphere. It is apparently the oldest pub in Auckland — mind you we’ve got pubs in Ireland which are five or six centuries older. It’s cosy, unpretentious and the staff make you feel at home. As regards the food, it is very very good. I was expecting something more basic but I got a Lamb Wellington and it was really tender — the meat pink in the middle. The fish and chips are reputed to be the best in Auckland — my father in law got this and he said he would be inclined to agree with that. We had a few drinks afterwards and it was a nice relaxed evening. Some of the bars and eateries in the vicinity are a bit pretentious but this place is warm and inviting. Recommended.

The least showy of the bars on Vulcan Lane, and for that reason it’s my favourite. It’s neighbours are too concerned with being faux-Belgian or faux-Irish, so there’s something to be said for a bar that’s happy to simply be a Kiwi bar. Queens Ferry is that place. The décor is simple — wood and leather — and so is the food. The fish and chips here is billed as the best in Auckland, and I find it hard to argue. Burgers, wedges and all other pub grub is done with similar aplomb. Virtually every type of Monteiths is on tap and that’s a nice bonus. Always fun and unpretentious — Queens Ferry has a winning formula.

Queens Ferry Hotel(not to be confused with the near-by QF Tavern) is maybe the best way to enjoy the cobbled Vulcan Lane. A simple, homely English pub without the pomposity of the surrounding eateries, or the ear-bleeding noise levels. As the oldest bar in Auckland, it has held onto it’s principles of being a good bar, without bending to flashy fads. This is a beer and chips and burgers bar on wooden tables or in leather booths with quirky staff enjoying themselves. Plenty of Monteiths on tap and, according to my partner, they make a decent Hot Chocolate as well.
