We used to go there all the time when we lived around the corner in Kingsley St 5 years ago, so thought for breakfast this morning would give it a try, Everything on the menu was to busy and I don’t always want greens on my breakfast so asked for poached eggs on toast, simple enough I would have thought. No plate arrived with 2 perfect poached eggs a small blanched tomato and 1 small piece of toasted wholemeal bread, I have always had two pieces of toast when and where ever I order this but maybe I am not trendy enough for this grey lynn eatery, so 1 lonely egg went back to the kitchen at the end of the meal. Not sure what price I was charged for this but I do feel your prices are a little high The coffee was OK but it is safe to say that we will not be returning here again sorry guys

Just love that place. Will give five stars if it was a bit cheaper but their breakfast menu is outstanding. The pancakes are just out of the world with their lavender syrup. the service is also very smiley and welcoming. Been few times and will definitely go again. A very good place.

Sent back a meal with undercooked black eyed beans and were told they were supposed to be crunchy. Ate it, I guess the chef knows best, right,. As I was paying the girl behind the counter told me in hostile tone that she would have changed meal if I’d wanted. Love the timing! And not sure why the hostility. I wasn’t rude or hostile myself but this is the second time I’ve copped attitude from that girl, in identical circumstances, was snippily told meal could have been changed when I had finished and was paying. Feeling sick right now as the beans were loaded with sugary sauce. I’ve gotta learn to not go back there.

Living just around the corner from this café is such a treat and is easy to get to in a rush for a quick bite. The food is delicious, although there is a lack of available cabinet food as it is quite a small café. It’s part of the chain of cafes that you’ll find in most affluent areas, so you know what you are going to expect and it’s perfect every time.

I have been to this café a few times and will continue to return. Not only do they use my favourite All Press coffee but on my last visit we were served by an exceptional waiter. I wish I had asked for his name now but he made some excellent recommendations, had a sense of humour and was attentive but not in your face about it. He put the icing on the cake for our dining experience. The food itself was delicious, I had the wagyu beef burger with home made potato fries. I always try to be seated in the covered outdoor area with the heaters however I don’t always get my first choice as this café is quite popular in the neighbourhood.

After coming to this café for about 7 years — the service and food always remain ‘top shelf’ and fantabulous. I always have an(Allpress) triple shot flat white in a tumbler and often go for a sweet brioche or something light, while I wade through the latest global fashion and design magazines. Today I was joined by a friend and we both decided on the appetising omelette: Brussels sprouts, delectable cheese, bacon and something else I can’t remember ha! Brussels sprouts are on the way back into many hip kitchens, and now I am not afraid to order them — after being forced to eat over-cooked ones’ as a child! The menu changes regularly, although they have a great ‘all day’ menu featuring market fish, grilled squid, poached chicken and roasted beets. Continuously voted one of the top 50 cafes in Auckland annually by Metro. Just go, it’s fab!

Nice café with sunny outdoor seating. But have to get in quick for those. The food was good. But not very children or baby friendly place though, the staff are great but the layout is quite tight. Can’t really get your pram through, and there’s stair out the front so a little hard to lift the buggy up.

I love this café. I travel from South Auckland to Grey Lynn to enjoy the food, coffee, and impeccable service. Initially, I was invited by a friend to this café after she and her daughter had a wonderful brunch there at Richmond Road Café. So, soon after that, we went for lunch. I started to fall head over heels. Coffee is excellent! The food is delicious. But above all else, the service is second to none. Really. I have visited more than several times since my ‘initiation’. I truly enjoy the experience(I know this sounds a little food tv-ish) It’s not pretentious. It’s warm. It’s smart. There is a covered balcony which happens to be the location I have tended to sit in when visiting. This café I gladly recommend to my friends and whanau. Even the fussy ones. This will not disappoint. Go. Eat. Drink. Be Happy!

I had breakfast here once and got an eggs florentine type dish. I swear to god it was friggen awful. It was really really terrible. Maybe they were just having a bad day or something? Or maybe their egg dishes are super reliant of bacon in order to be delicious. That may be the case, but I have never been back to this Richmond Road Café and I don’t foresee a circumstance in which I will ever go there again for the rest of my life. Who can tell what the future will bring for me and Richmond Road Café though. Two stars.

I used to live a two minute walk from this place so I’d come here quite a lot. They have great coffee and the food is really good, but it can get really busy so either come early or come late. The staff are friendly and seem to like the place they work, so the service you’ll get here should be spot on. It is one of those«places to be seen» hangs so make sure you bring your black framed glasses, roll up your jeans and always, always button up that top button. It’s a really handy location if you live around the area, or if you’re gonna do a bit of shopping on Richmond Road. Highly recommended.

This café is a very popular choice in the Grey Lynn Area, and you will find that people will come from as far as the Shore like me to sample there delicious food, smoothies and coffee. Located away from the over saturated café scene at Ponsonby road, you can sit and gaze out at trees in the burbs but still be in a 5 star café. The brunch is what they are famous for– I really love the Spanish scrambled eggs with shallots, little horror tomato pomme purée & sourdough, however the all day menu has a range of delicious and outstanding dishes such as the grilled squid, mustard sprout salad, with coriander and lime salsa– sensational. Whether in for a weekend brunch a coffee or just passing through and grabbing one of their delicious gourmet sandwiches, you will be amazed and impressed with Richmond Rd Café.

I’ve had brunch at the Richmond Rd café once and it was delicious. I went for the vegetarian option of the full breakfast and a flat white. Both were superb. The meal was quite substantial and plenty for me, although I’m not sure it was really a man-sized portion. Perhaps they give a little more to the meat eaters? The location on Richmond Rd is handy if you are a local, especially if you want to do some food shopping across the road at the supermarket. Although they’ve made the most of the space with a lovely deck etc it’s still just added on to an industrial building on a fairly ordinary stretch of road, so if you want a lovely view and a destination to visit for brekkie look elsewhere.

The Richmond Rd Café has proved itself to be quite the brunch spot in the Grey Lynn area. With so many options in central Auckland, I suggest a visit to Richmond Rd for a great selection of brunch options, gourmet sandwiches and baked goods. I’m a personal fan of their buttermilk hotcakes with rhubarb compote(with bacon!) — the flavours are beautiful and the cinnamon syrup is a lovely plus– and their almond croissants don’t fare too badly either. All of their dishes are plated beautifully from what I’ve seen; its always nice to know your food is well taken care of. They’ve also got an extensive list of drinks, including wine, cider, house sodas, smoothies and the always great-trasting Allpress coffee. You could even make a Sunday morning trip for their ‘Morning After Juice’ for the perfect pick-me-up. Richmond Rd is a great local stop for just about any of your brunch or breakfast needs, so be sure to try it out.
