Riddell Takeaway is quite the institution for the local school kids every day after school or during lunch for the 7th formers, providing kids with healthy and nutritious burgers, chips and deep fried Moro bars. Okay, obviously not healthy or nutritious in any sense of the words, but the deep fried Moro bar is fricken fantastic, even though you can feel your heart having palpitations mid-consumption. Definitely not a place to go to every day of the week, but if you don’t feel like cooking on a Friday and want something quick, cheap and tasty then Riddell Takeaway do a pretty good job of all the standard Kiwi takeaway options.

The little brother of the nearby Fishmonger in St Heliers, Riddell Takeaways offers a cheaper, easier Friday night option. For tasty, unfailing fish n chips at a reasonable price, this shop is ideal. My favourite is the BBQ Bacon burger, with hefty lashings of BBQ sauce, bacon and beetroot — must haves for a solid, filling burger. The chips were a favourite after school snack, with $ 2 getting a can of drink and a decent scoop. Other favourites include the crab sticks, squid rings, potato fritters, and the classic hot dog with sauce in a bag. If only they brought the street figher arcade game back.
