This was the first time I’d ever been to karaōke and I think I’m sold! Renting a room to hang out with mates and sing your hearts out is awesome and there’s a public stage if you’ve got the guts. The drinks isn’t the widest but who’s really paying attention when you’re belting out ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ or ‘Africa’. There’s a huge selection of songs to choose from and the price is super reasonable — perfect for a group night out!

Do you love Karaōke? Have you been to the Rock Bar on Queen Street? There are many Karaōke bars in Auckland City but I have to say I like this divvy, seedy, character filled little upstairs bar. You can join the public if you’re not shy and sing in the main bar or pay just $ 30 an hour for as many of you as you like and get one of their private rooms. The toilets are scoddy and the stairs to them precariously steep if you have had one too many of their whiskey’s but it’s a fun place to go. There is a great drinks list and HUGE song selection. The only thing I wish they did is offer the song book in Artist order as an alternative, like I have seen in some other establishments. I think more often than not you know the Artist but can’t remember the song title. This is my 2nd time here and I’ll probably go again.

They’ve got karaōke, private rooms and a well stocked bar. And they speak good English and the place doesn’t look like it doubles as a Korean brothel. So I’m gonna be back here again!

It’s not a classy joint and I’m sure they never clean the microphones… But this place rocks!

There’s nothing like a great night of embarrassment to help you bond with your friends. If that’s what you’re after, then try the Rock Bar on Queen Street in central Auckland. Whether you feel like Noël Gallagher, Ozzy Osbourne or Celine Dion, tonight Matthew, you shall be…
