I am wondering if today was an unusual work day for the staff, because the service was literally non-existent. My friend and I came here to have a bite to eat and a cold beverage. Only twice did the server come to our table; once to take the order, then again to bring it. No one asked how our food was, or if we needed anything additional. Poor service. The upside to this place is that it really is in a nice setting. Surrounded by boutique shops and salons, it’s similar to that tucked away spot at the corner of Rodeo Drive & Wilshire Blvd. A hidden gem that most of the tourists will not find. Comfortable chairs and large shade umbrellas are scattered about the front of this eatery. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner til late. Our food was nice, granted we only ordered fries and garlic beard. Event still, the presentation was nice and we did not have an extended wait. Although the service was lacking I will give them another go. Perhaps they were thinking like me, that today is a lazy Sunday.

When I think of Mecca I visualise the little cobbled outdoor area with fairy lights… It is a great spot to go for a drink! The Italian waiter, David, is always very friendly and prompt, and has recommended lovely wines. Lunch there has been equally good, Mediterranean flare dishes served promptly and with a smile… What else is needed for a quick lunch in the CBD? Not much I say! I still have to try their desserts…

My other reviews of places in the area might lead you to believe that I hate the Chancery development, and I do. It’s more I dislike the idea of it — a fake«street» which turns it’s backside on to actual streets around it. But anyway, I digress, I really enjoy having a drink at Mecca! It certainly has the best spot in Chancery, right in the middle, and for that reason it’s by far the most popular of the places here. The indoor area is nice, but the real party piece is the outdoor bar which sits right in the middle of the courtyard beneath the fairy lights. Great place to sit out late with some mates, maybe with a sheesha too.

In the heart of Chancery in the heart of the city sits one of the Mecca restaurants. This one has a point of difference as well as the main restaurant with ample out-door seating, there is also a detached bar perched in the middle of the setting. I think that this restaurant owes plenty of its success to this out-door bar combined with the central location, and it being the first restaurant/bar you come to when you walk in from High Street direction. That and good service and a recognized name. Mecca is always the busiest spot in the Chancery group of restaurants.
I have been to Mecca for a breakfast of Eggs Benedict, a morning coffee, fish and chips for lunch, and an ice-cold Stellar Artois from the tap at the outdoor bar. In all occasions I have been pleased with the food, and prompt and efficient service and the price is in line with other places in the area.

I would like to thank fellow reviewer ‘Sarah B’ for drawing my attention to this delighful courtyard setting. How on earth have I managed to circumnavigate this space is beyond me. A combination of hangover and my broken toe made for a painful shopping trip along Queen Street on a Saturday afternoon. My suggestion to take a time out for a drink was accepted by the shopping leader and as we were close to the Chancery it seemed as good a time as any to check it out. Fortunately the courtyard bar was open and despite their Gin looking tempting we opted for the usual pair of Flat White’s. Combine the lovely surroundings the easy drinking coffee and very reasonable prices give this particular branch of Mecca the thumbs up.

The Chancery branch of Mecca is something special. courtyard of the Chancery is an exceptionally pretty spot in the middle of town; it’s something of a sanctuary from the high rise concrete and sidewalk seating elsewhere. There is an indoor area in case of bad weather but if you can get a spot in the beautiful mediterranean-style courtyard, do grab it quickly. The food is as good as at any other Mecca but perhaps the service is a little better. I like the courtyard bar when that’s operating; it’s a nice touch.
