The distinct blue expanse atop K Road that is the Rock Shop is one of those shops that I either:(1) Walk past staring and drooling shamelessly; or(2) Spend hours in without actually buying anything. As a review for the Taka Rockshop said — it just reminds you of the movie Wayne’s World. I suppose that makes me Wayne — standing in the window staring at a White Stratocaster on display saying«It will be mind. Oh yes, it will be mine». I’ve done that more times than I can imagine, most recently the other day from across the road when a lovely red Gretsch caught my eye. I’ve played guitar since I was eight, so don’t get me wrong, I actually have bought stuff from here too — my student budget these days dictates that I just can’t add to my axe collection at the moment which nonetheless stands at 6. Maybe I should sell some… Anyway, the Rock Shop is a little pricey compared to getting stuff online, but as others have said a musician really needs to try an instrument — no two guitars are the same, no matter if they’re the same model or not.

This Rock shop has been around for ages ever since I moved to Auckland, and more than the teenagers that go there to buy their cool electric guitar or drum set. The original rock shop used to be at 76 KRoad, then it moved to 100K Road and as it has grown its spread out to a number of shops on Kroad. There are specific shops depending on what you are after, like guitar, digital, drums and Piano. You won’t miss them they are the shops that are all painted blue. The Guitar shop have a great variety of guitars and accessories and the staff are very knowledgeable. If you need your guitar strings changed or want to be shown how to do it, then you can also get help from them for this.

I could spend hours in this Rockshop. Wait, let me reword that, I HAVE spent hours in this Rockshop. They have almost taken over a whole block with four different stores, each one dedicated to a different instrument. A musician’s heaven! The staff are always really helpful and willing to give you advice or information. I had a lot of dramas with my keyboard being broken and they sorted it all out for me. They found the supplier, had it fixed and sent back, all I had to do was pick it up. They are also really good at letting you try out the instruments. I went in there with a friend who wanted to buy a guitar and he tried lots of different ones. Because it’s not until you pick it up and feel it that you really know if it’s the one for you or not. The Rockshop is really good for all music levels; whether you’re starting out, or been playing for forty years.
