Rocky Bay is a small stretch of beach to the South of Waiheke Island. It’s quite a secluded bay, and not many people seem to come down these ways. The bay itself is small, and I think lots of birds nest amongst the grasses so you have to be careful not to disturb them. The beach itself is part of the Whakanewha Regional Park, a large forested park which offers a lot of bushwalking. It’s also meant to have a lot of waterfalls, especially after it has rained, but when we went there were none since it hadn’t rained for about a week. It was still a pleasant walk, though, but we didn’t complete it as we got hungry, and so had to turn back. Make sure you set aside at least 3 – 4 hours when visiting Whakanewha and Rocky Bay — you’ll need them to fully explore the entirety of the place.
