Search and Destroy is run by the hippest couple in K’rd(and St Kevin’s Arcade Royalty) Allison and Tony; it’s the tiny shop between Metro Retro and the new IkoIko-esque Match(one of the newest shops in the Arcade) I live, breathe and love vintage so can’t go through the Arcade without popping in to say Hello and what’s new… Most items are $ 5, $ 10 or $ 20 with a few clearly marked exceptions. Stock is always changing and non-seasonal. They also have a storage space/pop up garage sale space on Cross Street so hit them up on the ‘Gram to be in the loop(waaaaay to cool for FaceBook y’all) Cash Only!!!

It is definitly not a premium second hand store. Their racks are not lined with vintage classics one after the other. But it definitly isn’t Savemart either where there is no filter to what ends up on the shelves and to find anything decent you have to be prepared to sieve through wardrobes upon wardrobes of utter crap. It is a midrange second hand store which if your lucky you will find a cool thingy or two. A found an amazing trench coat here. Not the kind of thing I was really prepared to wear in public, but for like $ 10 does it really matter if I am ever going to wear it around? It is strictly my around the house trench coat.

This is the best second hand, vintage boutique type place in Auckland. Definitely. It’s in a great location so you can jack a slice of pizza or something while you sidle down their narrow little aisles, scooping up the bargains galore. Their clothes used to all cost between $ 5 and $ 10 which is pretty amazing when you contrast the fact with the $ 50 t shirts they sell at the place next door. They recently added this middle rack of clothes which costs a bit more. I just ignore that stuff and grab the bargains. I go to Search and Destroy at least once every time I’m on K rd and I almost always buy something.

Search and Destroy is the long-running overflow from Fast & Loose, an upmarket Americana-style secondhand shop that used to inhabit the corner of St Kevins Arcade. Fast & Loose is gone but its bargain basement sister store remains, ready to give you all the $ 5 and $ 10 clothing you could ever want. While there are more expensive items in the store, people come here for the cheap and cheerful clothing that hangs out outside. The single greatest thing I’ve ever seen come out of this store was a white two-piece tracksuit. Fosters Beer branded. Truly extraordinary and a bargain at only $ 20. Of course we bought it!
