Finally…, I got to Honeytrap for lunch. I’d heard good things and had been meaning to go there for ages so popped in and grabbed a «slow roasted pork shoulder, Big Daddy’s Carolina sauce and slaw» bun to takeaway. It was divine. Very friendly service. Cute spot in St Kevins Arcade. I’ll be back.

Once a month Honeytrap opens for dinner, one night only, two sittings– 6.30 and 8.30. I really had no idea what to expect, if I’m honest i hadn’t heard of this adorable café hidden away in St Kevin’s arcade on k’road. This place is a total gem, i can see from other reviews its clearly very popular too. I can’t wait to sample their day time food. So we went along for dinner, the spaces are very limited so you must book! Each month they have a different theme for the evening. This month was Moroccan, its a 3 course set menu. OMG it was AMAZING. To start we had chicken skewers served with yogurt, herbs, pistachio. Second course; slow roasted lamb shoulder on date and almond couscous w/feta, tomato & cucumber salad. This was incredible, the meat was so tender and perfectly cooked. Last up for pudding– lemon drizzle cake w/rose water jellies, honey yogurt and pistachio brittle. To wash it down we had a bottle of Soho red, the wine list is small but offers a fine selection of local wines. They also had mulled wine= big ups in my world esp on these cold winter evenings. The whole meal was really impressive and if I’m honest unexpected. Honeytrap is very quaint and intimate. It can probably only seat 15 people max at once which adds to the character of the place. I highly recommend you get along to their next dinner, obviously the menu will be different! Can’t wait to try the next lot of creations. Also looking forward to snuggling up with the paper and a coffee on weekday morning. Cheers Honeytrap! x

Am yet to go to Honeytrap during the day but I went to one of their monthly dinners last night and I am a FAN! Each month they have different a theme and last night’s was Middle Eastern. It’s a set menu featuring an entrée, dinner and dessert with an alternate options for vegetarians. I thought they absolutely nailed the food — it was uncomplicated but brilliantly executed. To start we had marinated chicken skewers served atop warm flatbread with a herb salad, sumac and yoghurt. Fresh and flavoursome — the perfect start. Main was a slow cooked lamb shoulder served with a date, almond and couscous salad. The meat was unbelievably tender, it just melted in your mouth. For dessert we had a lemon drizzle cake served in a glass with rose jelly, pistachio praline and honey yoghurt. We were all so full and definitely didn’t need dessert but it was too good to leave behind! They also gave us a packet of their home spiced nuts to take home. Cute! To get in on the action, keep an eye on their FB page or call the café and ask to be put on their email list.

This wee café is delightful. I have been following their delicious food posts on fb for a while now so stoked to find the time to go today. It’s on the busiest part of K Road so parking is not ideal, but it’s tucked away in St Kevins Arcade so it’s surroundings are really cute. Their sandwiches are very well known and my bf got the Mexican Chicken one with slaw and ‘mole — it looked almost like a burger — but the bread was a lot thinner — ideal if you’re not into bread-y sammies. Also good to know they do these as bowls without the bread. $ 13 a bit steep for a sandwich but well worth it as the flavours are so good. I got the soup of the day — Roast Beetroot with crumbled feta and toast with herb butter. Earthy, thick and not too salty which is a problem I find with soups these days. The interior is delightful, recycled looking but pretty too — they definitely haven’t tried too hard. Nothing looks forced. According to their facebook they are going to open for dinners shortly. I’m excited!

Nestled within St. Kevin’s arcade on K Road, Honeytrap is a nice little escape from the hustle of bustle of CBD as well as some of the mediocre food options dotted around the«walkable» distance. FANOF: –Homemade sauces and pickles –Free range eggs –Free refills on filter coffee!!! I don’t believe you. –The unique wall art, laid back atmosphere, nice background music selection NOTSOMUCH: –Meat-centric sandwich menu –Small space making the wait for your meal to-go prettttty«I’m in the way of everyone» awkward –Hefty prices(except the coffee!) — Salad sizes are quite small; my sandwich(roasted eggplant, harissa and feta) was extremely tasty but not sure I can validate the $ 13 price tag. Word on the street is the«milkshake of the day» is the bread and butter of this place(today’s flavor?: salted caramel… popcorn). Yep, you read that correctly. And for $ 6.50, I think that’s what I’ll go for next time… PS apparently they serve beer and wine too, alcoholic milkshakes anyone? ;)

I’m not a café person but Honeytrap is easily one of my new favorite places to have lunch or coffee break in the city. I was shopping with a friend on K Rd and we wanted to get something to eat that wasn’t kebabs or Hare Krishna vegetarian meals. We wandered into St Kevin’s Arcade and after seeing a sign for a sticky date milkshakes outside Honeytrap as well as a pretty impressive DIY second-storey built above the kitchen my curiosity was going haywire at that point. I ordered a sticky date milkshake(duh), a slice of coconut bread with salted caramel butter(DUH) and a pineapple cake singing to me sweetly from my periphery(DOUBLEDUH) while my friend ordered a falafel salad which usually comes as a burger but they’d run out of buns that day. We sat upstairs which was super charming. cute hanging potplants and being that close to the ceiling feels like you’re sitting on the top bunk at a sleepover. Random but sweet. The food was actually so SO good and halfway through my milkshake I already wanted another one. The lady serving us was lovely and smiley too. such a perfect spot to spend a rainy afternoon. We completely forgot we were on the scuzziest road in the city and that’s no mean feat. Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu and to relive some more bunkbed memories.
