I’m from the United States and we are staying in Auckland for a bit and we decided to order pizza from Sal’s for the night. I ordered some basic sides like ranch and chili peppers and Parmesan. I was charged almost $ 10 for sides.(In the states we are not charged for basic things). And when it was delivered I didn’t recieve them all. I called them and told them I didn’t receive all my sides that I paid for, and they wouldn’t deliver them. They told me that to get a refund I would have to come the next day. I’m visiting and doing tours I can’t just come at the time they tell me. This company has been super ridiculous, and it’s annoying to have to deal with this on vacation. I was so upset by this I made a Unilocal so I could post about this!

I’m sorry Sal but your pizza is nothing like authentic New York pizza. The garlic knots tasted like they had been cooked 2 days before and then reheated. They were hard and tasteless. The pizza was also disappointing… I have never eaten anything so oily and yet dry all at the same time. The service was average and we were initially given the wrong order. I’m sorry guys but I would not go back!

What’s that line about pizza? Even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good? Well Sal’s is definitely good. Crunchy crust, zesty sauce, thick layer of cheese that is browned to perfection, all served hot out of the oven to order. What more could you want? As an added bonus, online ordering is super convenient so you’ll never have to wait. Double bonus: the place is clean and the employees are friendly — those are some things I’ve never found in an authentic NYC pizzeria.

This is my local Sal’s and I adore them. Very high standards they’ve got. Sal’s in general probably has the best tasting pizza in Auckland, if not anywhere(though I haven’t seen many independent pizza parlors.) This is also one of the few places found thus far that have genuine hot wings. Their pepperoni-cheese pinwheels are a calorie bomb of delicious, definitely something you only have a couple times a year unless you’ve zero concern for your cholesterol but ITISSOGOOD. Besides being delicious, I love their decision to cater to the drinker K’Rd crowd. Few places are open at 3 in the morning and I’m super happy they’re one, and even better are the student deals. $ 16 for a large cheese pizza? Sold. A large at Hell’s costs that much and is about half the size. Usually just go in for a slice and a coke though. Only downsides are anyone but me going to get a pizza to bring home puts it out of our price range as I’m the only student and normal pricing is super high. This is unfortunate if I happen to be drunk. Hah! But… Great quality, so I understand, but still pricey. Anyway, y’all rock. :)

I find it appalling any place in New Zealand would equate itself with being«authentic» to a profoundly magnificent restaurant scene like that of New York City! True, «authentic» pizza from New York is suppose to be RICH and thick in cheese, pepporoni or other meats, and dripping with savory, seasoned tomato sauce! It’s truly an insult Sal’s Pizza is anything but authentic and practically sits aligned with the more processed Domino’s, an American pizza chain that is heavily mocked in the U.S. itself. But I guess the people who heavily go to these«restaurants» don’t know any better. Sal’s Pizza pizza is disgustingly flat, the cheese dries up quickly on slice servings, the servings of added toppings are not abundant, and the service is not very proactive in telling customers about seasonings and toppings offered. Essentially, your teeth are not sinking into an «authentic» New York-styled thick, rich pizza, but what seems to be an edible piece of floury cardboard. Once again, another restaurant disappointment in needlessly expensive New Zealand.

Fantastic pizza by the slice from $ 4(cheese) and everything else(meatball, chicken & tomato, mushroom) for $ 5. Also you can have 3 garlic knots for $ 3 or 1 for $ 1.50. They stock all the usual beverages in the chiller: carbonated drinks, juice or bottled water. You can opt to buy a whole pizza from $ 24(cheese) and more expensive for carnivore choices! The seating is limited with small American-style booths, seats about 4 people comfortably. Flat screen TV on the wall playing sport! The pizza is delicious — however tricky to eat — so having your first date here, is at your own peril.

As always, Sal’s has great high quality pizzas(using real american ingredients that they import from USA) that are well worth it at a whopping 18″(yes 18 inches!) diameter, even though their pizzas are slightly pricey, ranging from $ 24 to $ 34. Not to worry students, on Mondays their pizzas are $ 18 only, even though it’s only for their cheese and/or pepperoni pizzas. The staff performance is okay, the girl that works there is nice although it made me feel slightly rushed(I had to request my receipt) and the other guys that worked there only gave me eye contact when I came, leaving the girl(who was busy frying something) to take my order rather than helping her(maybe there is a store policy on salespersons/cashiers, I don’t know) even though one of the guys ended up serving and packaging my pizza kindly(the other one, not so much.) The space of Sal’s outlets are usually crammed/small anyway, so don’t come during lunch/dinner hours or you might not get a seat and end up sitting on one of the cold street benches nearby, but the outlet itself is clean and they have condiments such as herbs and parmesan for free when you eat in store, so parmesan lovers(like me) can enjoy my pizza even more. Overall, Sal’s is a great clean but small place to eat huge authentic american pizzas(that you can eat for tomorrow’s breakfast or lunch, too) even though it is slightly more pricey than your average pizza from Pizza Hut or Dominos.

GREATPIZZA! but I didn’t like the girl who was serving us. Maybe it was just a bad day for her but she seemed rushed and like we weren’t important. I would defiantly go back and will! The pizza was amazing

Hankering for a pepperoni pizza we stopped in here to get a pie. It hit the spot for a traditional pizza with lots of flavour and not overloaded with dough. Staff was friendly, wait times were reasonable. Will certainly be back for more.

$ 16 cheese pizzas on Student Mondays are all good in my book! Usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes from ordering to having the pizza in my hands. Delicious big, NY style pizzas full of cheese and grease. They’re usually open pretty late(until 4am I think) on Friday/Saturday, which is great for that late night feed. If you’re lucky, you might be able to track down one of those 6-free-mozzarella-sticks flyers, which are also delicious with the marinara sauce. If money was no object, I’d suggest going for the vegetarian pizza. Probably one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had from a chain, and I’m not even a vegetarian! It can get a bit pricey though, so split with friends. The pizzas are absolutely coated in toppings, and they’re well worth the wait and the price.

After a hard day of walking up and down K Road hunting for bargains and $ 2 racks, I needed to eat. I had never been to Sal’s pizza so a friend suggested that we go there and feat our hearts out. When I walked in I was happy to see that they where seats, which meant that we didn’t have to occupy bus stops in order to enjoy our pizzas. The pizza slices looked huge and full of ingredients, none of that stingy stuff you get from certain pizza franchises! I ordered a pepperoni slice and 2 of those little cheese balls they have. The moment I popped a cheese ball in my mouth, I nearly fainted. It’s a bun with cheese in the middle, perfect perfect ending to an eventful day.
