I used to visit Shangri-La when I lived in the area 5 years back. Now that I have moved back, I remembered this place and decided to check it out. Talk about time standing still. I was surprised that almost nothing has changed in this establishment in the last 5 years. I ordered a veggie fried rice and only when I got it did I recollect how huge these portions are. Even after gorging myself I still had enough for another full meal. This is a typical Chinese take out with no frills and value for money. Not sure about the hygiene levels and quality of the ingredients but you definitely get what you pay for here. Good budget food, quick service and always busy. Order ahead on Thursday and Friday nights to avoid having to wait too long.

I’ll be honest I wasn’t expecting much from this place when looking at the run-down condition that the inside and outside of the building is in. But I was pleasantly surprised, especially by the portion of food that I got. One Chinese dish was enough to last me for like two days, and would be pretty good for a cheap family feed. The food itself was ok, the texture was a little bit gross though. Like many Chinese take-away places these days, you can order both Chinese food and fish and chips from Shangri La. A little bit of refurbishment wouldn’t go astray. To me, an owner who doesn’t put the effort into how their business looks probably doesn’t care too much about the quality of the food either. However, the food is adequate enough here.

These guys are SOBUSY. Every time we go there it is packed with waiting customers, and it seems like they just go hard and cook non stop for hours and hours. You can order all your standard Chinese takeaway options, plus all the regular deep fried anything you want. It’s handy and it’s local, and we go there frequently, but it’s not necessarily the best Chinese takeaways we’ve ever had. The servings are really generous though and it’s great value for money!
