Out cerebrating a friends birthday with a large table. Very tasty (just IMHO not as good as Nishiki (
) Japanese with a few twists that you don’t normally see.
Being Tapa’s style I ordered way too many dishes and left totally stuffed, I wish I could of convinced the table to go with the set menu as it seamed like a very good deal at $ 35 perperson.

This place has become one of our favourites. I would go so far as saying we would like to be considered regulars.
The food is always fresh and Kuni is a great host. Hard to name a stand out dish as they are all great!

Great place — We have been here several times since it opened, food always great and very authentic — izakaya (‘Tapas’) sharing style dining, or individual meals if you wish. Great sushi bar, good prices, very reasonable drinks menu, and a fantastic host — I highly recommend this restaurant for casual dining. — Nick.

The sashimi & sushi platter was fantastic for sharing although we had to divvie up the nigiri sushi pieces and decide who was having what. All the fish was fresh and delicious.
We also shared the Owan Mushi — a steamed savoury egg custard with seafood & chicken… anyone who’s had chawan mushi before will know not to be put off by the strange description. The portion was huge and perfect for sharing as well. The steamed egg custard was smooth and the broth was flavourful.
We also shared the green tea brulee which was tasty but the star was definitely the lemon sorbet on the side. It was more like frozen lemon juice turned shaved ice. We both agreed we would happily eat a bowlful!
The staff all seem to be authentic Japanese (as in they all spoke Japanese to each other.), the dishes all seem pretty authentic as well. I’ve come across most of them in Japan.
Service was a bit slow to start but they were polite and attentive. It’s nice to sit at the sushi bar at the back and watch them creating your food!
If you’re in the neighbourhood, don’t hesitate to stop by. it’s good enough to warrant a special trip just to check it out.
