Got a scoop of chips today (not a half scoop) and it was a ridiculously tiny portion, way less of what you would expect from a typical takeaway’s ½ scoop. Will not go back.

I love fish and chips, it is a classic meal, and all you need to do is to add a little bit of salt and vinegar and of course the great American gift to mankind, ketchup. You cannot stuff this meal up, you just can’t. Okay you can, I’ll explain…
Ever since I’ve moved to New Zealand, I’ve practically stopped buying fish and chips at a take away joint, and the reason is I don’t like the chips. It is crap. All the Chinese run places use McCain’s frozen chips, and they all taste the same. I like my chips to be softer, full of flavour and fresh.
A first time visitor to The Chippy in Browns Bay, I ordered the tempura prawns and chips. The prawns were great, but the chips crap… It tasted like chips from all the other chip shops, plain and tasteless.
The service was good though, and the husband and wife team have got it sorted, he makes the food and she handles the customers. Always with a bow of respect.
