It was 9 pm on Christmas Eve and after circling most of the CBD, I was this close to eating packaged ramen for dinner after an hour of aimlessly searching for food, because just about every kitchen was closed(yes, even the almighty Mickey D’s). Not exactly what I anticipated on from traveling almost 9,000 miles for but I have to say… Thank God I did not give up! When I asked the man working the convenience store on Fort Street if he knew of any options, another lovely man in the store suggested there might be food opened on Commerce Street. Sure enough, there was a white food truck the size of a school bus that resembled an old school diner. Little did I know that this has been an Auckland staple for over 60 years! Some drunk European backpackers sat in front of the truck, so my first thought was that this was only good for a hangover. It probably is and people are probably unaware of how much they’re paying, but I’m sure this is great hungover food. I went with the Steak Burger and the meat was really delicious! Lots of slices of steak and the burger was kind of huge, but price was a little steep for a food truck($ 13NZD). I mean, to think that at one point, I almost had to resort to packaged ramen after getting shut out by McDonald’s and Subway, this was a miracle. Good things do happen if you wait. I am a food truck enthusiast back home, but the thought of eating from a food truck in Auckland didn’t cross my mind. I’m not very familiar with the food truck scene in Auckland, but I do think this place is worth trying for street food. Friendly people and a nice spot to eat and chat at late hours when everything else is closed.

can this possibly be my first ever review for Auckland!!! forgive me alex, for i know not what i do. now, who hasn’t heard of the white lady? shame on you! the white lady is world famous… in NZ! just like L&P! just bring your big mouth and a twenty, you’ll need it. no need to be sober, it will taste all the better. get ready, your hands and quite possibly your face will get greasy! it was so greasy, in a good way, my hands let slip my sony Z3(which cracked from the fall) whilst trying to get that perfect shot of my white lady burger!:( a burger compacted with 100g scotch fillet, beef pattie, bacon, egg, cheese, pineapple, fried onions, lettuce and tomato between two hold all, firm but not hard buns, now selling for $ 20(was $ 17.50)! this is what i would recommend all burger aficionados. but if you like pure steak then go with the aucklander, as that will give you 300g of juicy scotch fillet fillers! this is after all a food truck, lying off the somewhat glitzy queens street, so stand, eat and lick, as required. then wash it all down with a L&P soda, so good coca cola bought them! oh, don’t forget to check in as there is free wifi, in the form of spark, from the nearby telephone booth! Hey little brother what have you done? Hey little brother who’s the only one? Hey little brother who’s your favourite bun? Hey little brother who’s the one you want? Hey little brother big mouth! It’s a nice day to start again. It’s a nice day for a white lady! It’s a nice day to start again. Hey little brother who is it you’re with? Hey little brother what’s your vice and wish? Hey little brother big mouth(oh yeah) Hey little brother who’s your favourite bun? Hey little brother big mouth! It’s a nice day to start again(come on) It’s a nice day for a white lady! It’s a nice day to start again.

An Auckland institution since 1948, and believe it or not, I only went for the first time last Friday. Jeez, it’s not cheap. $ 18 for a burger, and nothing out of the ordinary, just the ‘comes with lettuce and tomato’ kind. Still, when you’re sobering up a friend, it does the trick. Glad I wasn’t paying!

I read some time on buzzfeed that the White lady’s burgers are one of the best in New Zealand and I must say I agree with it. We had the king burger and it was amazing. All the melted cheese and the perfectly cooked egg and what a tasteful burger patty ! Amazing customer service, super fast. Really great! Also their chips are yummy and best part is you can help yourself with salt/chicken salt and tomato sauce/aioli. Highly recommend.

History + ambience + great food = an Auckland must — do! You pay a bit more but the portions are good and tasty. Would have given five stars if staff were consistently proactively friendly.

The burger’s size is really huge, I can’t finish it unless I m really hungry. But the best thing is, they use the real beef steak in a burger instead of burger patties. Thumbs up for the juicy and huge burger.

We went with a friend starving for a juicy and big burger. We were both quite disappointed. Maybe the chef was not in tip top form this night because he overcooked our two patties and the bacon was burn. I wish the cheddar would have been more generous and tasty. Not sure I will give a second chance to this place.

A bit of late night naughtiness and hamburgers leads to The White Lady. The ultimate burger joint that I wish I had found out about earlier during my Auckland visit. Open from Monday to Thursday from 730 pm to 3am and 24 hours from Friday to Sunday no wonder it is a local favourite. A little bit greasy but compact and hold-able…a White Lady burger can be eaten easily and hits the spot after a late night out and while you wait you can meet new people. Expect melted gooey cheese, bacon, some jalapenos and other thing to make you drool when you order a burger! I have begun to salivate…

After touching down in Auckland past midnight, this is the only decent place that is still open. I got the egg burger, which had a fried egg and a beef pattie, along with the usual veg. It was so good, I can’t even. This is the Five Guys burger of Auckland. Edit: I got the old school burger the next day. It came with beets, and what I tasted to be a slightly different sauce. A slightly sweeter and it had a little curry taste to it. I also had the chocolate milkshake, which was a good old milkshake.

I only visited the White Lady for the first time a few weeks ago despite being a semi-regular fixture on the Saturday night city scene. probably because a. the area is a bit seedy at that time with its naked mermaids and drunk backpackers and b. because I try to go home before I get hungry enough to want to buy an entire meal. However we were starting to feel hungry and weren’t in the mood to go home just yet. and we happened to stumble across the White Lady which has become synonymous amongst the town crowd with ‘mean ass greasy late night feed.’ There was a pretty long queue of both drunks and not-so-drunks, all in all it’s a pretty unglamorous situation there but no one is judging you at 4.30 in the morning as you sit on a plastic crate and stuff your face. I ordered a chicken burger and some fries and was glad to take a bite and see an actual chicken breast and not the white rubber you get at McD’s and Burger King. The chips were a bit of a miss. pretty tasteless on their own, think typical takeaway fare. I can’t vouch for any of the beef burgers as I’m not a red meat/processed meat eater but they seemed to be what everyone else there was ordering. Also if you’re there after a night on the town prepare to be approached by random strangers who try to make oddball conversation with you which you will either find charming or traumatizing. I’ve been pretty lucky so far with the majority of people just being friendly chatty types but there are people who lurk that area who are a bit shifty. Anyways my burger was actually pretty frickin good so I’m looking forward to another boozy burger stop here.

What would nightlife in Auckland be without the White Lady?!! As much as you immediately regret it, sometimes when you’re out in the wee hours after a big night on the town you just NEED something greasy. Think along the lines of Burgerfuel in terms of scale crossed with your local fish and chip shop for preparation, and priced somewhere in between — there you have the perfect early morning snack! A truly unique Auckland experience!

Being from Christchurch originally, I was pretty excited to try an Authentic taste of Auckland: a white lady burger! My first night out, I hunted this icon down and I was definately not disappointed. Huge towering behemoths these burgers are! Filled with all sorts of juicy assorted fillings, that tend to run down your chin in a rather unladylike fashion, a burger from this truck really is an experience in itself. While it is more pricier than an ordinary McDonalds or Burger King burger, you get a lot more bang for your buck in my opinion. If you want to track down this truck look no further than the long line of bedraggled partygoers on a Friday or Saturday night waiting for their fix.

This is one of those cute things you remember from your travels(if your visiting NZ) and that you continually revisit if your a kiwi. The white lady is an iconic pit stop for all people intoxicated, working late or general passer by-ers. It is a beautiful caravan that parks up usually in the hub of the city queen street area — though it tends to move at times. It offer great comfort food. Very decent portions and amazing flavours. Classical and specialty burgers and fries and shakes and all the like. It’s delicious. I generally find that i need to have a big night out before i can consume one of the burgers but most of my male friends will devour them before during and after. This is an iconic little spot that you just must visit. You will stop when you walk past it anyway because it is so intriguing. I’ve had a couple of friends that have worked here too and that just shows how lovely the staff are — you’d have to be to put up with some of the crowds they get sometimes. In all I have fond memories of the White Lady Burger and will continue to visit her while I’m in Auckland.

When my partner was over here for the first time as an exchange student, the White Lady was a pretty regular late night Saturday feast for him and his friends. Now that he’s a bit older and wiser it’s only an occasional treat, and so it should be! The White Lady has really good burgers, no one can deny this. But they’re also huge and packed full of fat! Which is why I think it attracts so many drunk people, because you have to be past the point of caring what you look like to eat one! I don’t think I’ve ever succeeded with keeping what I’m wearing food-free when eating one. Guys love the White Lady because there is a whole lot of meat in the burgers. Me? I’m not such a huge carnivore so I’d probably like the burgers more if there was a little less meat and a little more salad but I’m probably not their target market any way. It’s definitely one of those places you have to visit at least once. But don’t wear light colours. You’ve been warned.

The White Lady has been around a long time, oh yes she has. If your after a big greasy larger than life burger with all the trimmings and you find yourself wandering the streets of downtown at 3 am hungry for some reason, this burger joint is a million times more naughty than Burger King or Macca’s. Come on if your gonna do some damage to the scales this iconic takeout machine will help you out. Designed the good old fashioned way. The service is fast and non personal, you wouldn’t want to stand around too long on a street like Commerce anyway, but its located close enough to the nightclub bar scene in that zone. Fuel up and move on so to speak.

On the plane over to Auckland, I asked my boyfriend what he missed most about the city having not been here for over two years; his reply was instantaneous: White Lady Burgers. So much so that when we got off said plane and into the city at 1am on a Friday, the first thing we did was hit the van and order one Hawaiian, one Aucklander and some fries. Wow. I didn’t even know I was missing it until that moment. It’s not much to look at. In fact, it’s noting more than an imposing white van parked on Commerce Street but it offers exceptional burgers at great value. Everything is made to order and tastes super fresh and the burgers themselves are massive. The eponymous White Lady is a double beef-pattied, bacon-laced delight that is definitely not for the faint-hearted. No, really, I mean that in the literal sense of the word, it looks like a heart attack waiting to happen. It’s no wonder the place has been an Auckland institution since 1948, you’d be hard pressed to find a better burger for your buck this side of the Pacific. A big, white piece of heaven that’s always open late enough to satisfy your late night cravings after hitting the bars. A night out in Auckland just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to White Lady. Ronald Mc Who???
