A friend and I met here for a pre-work coffee and breakfast(this should have some sort of word like brunch… any suggestions?) — nothing like a decent coffee and meal to get you started! This might be your perfect place to do it if you work anywhere near Ponsonby or K’Rd. I can’t say I discovered the place because there were definitely a few other like-minded individuals milling around needing to kickstart their day. That’s probably due to the quick and delicious coffee service. In fact my friend had two coffees now that I think about it. Although, I did note the staff weren’t the most enthused to be there so early but it did not deter from efficiency so I guess it depends whether you need an enthusiastic ‘hello’ with your coffee? Newspapers available too if you want to miss traffic and update yourself on worldly affairs. The place opens early and immediately has full breakfast service available. I had perfectly cooked scrambled eggs with smoked salmon that kept me happy for the whole day! It came to just under $ 20 with a large coffee. The signage for the place is minimal so you might be searching when you first arrive but you won’t forget this place easily! In fact, it might be your next local. Who is keen for a pre work breakfast and coffee?(like I said we need a catch phrase!)

All too often I forget about this place. I think it’s because there is a gazillion great cafes in the area and to be honest, I hardly ever venture that far down P.Road. That being said every time I go I leave feeling full, happy and wondering why I don’t go more often. Whilst, Café People won’t knock your socks off with out-there flavour combinations or a crazy-cool fit out it what it will do is serve you consistently good food from smiling wait staff. In particular, I have a thing for Café People’s salads. They are a decent size and chocca-block full deliciously fresh ingredients. On my last visit, I ordered the Haloumi salad with Israeli Couscous, Rocket and Tomato Salsa($ 16). The couscous was tossed in some delicious herbacious dressing which added a heap of flavour. My only gripe was that the dressing drizzled over the rest of the dish was way too sweet. But maybe that’s just me… different strokes for different folks right? Either way, it was used sparingly and overall I was still able enjoy the dish. If you live/work in the area this place I definitely recommend checking out this spot for lunch — much more quiet/relaxing than the horde of restaurants down the road. Perfect for that afternoon meeting.
