Epolitos has to be the best pizza in Auckland! The staff are friendly and accommodating, and nothing is ever a problem. The pizza is New York style, and the menu is both healthy and complete.

Tried out this little pizza joint on the recommendation of the Unilocalers that have come before me. We ordered the godfather pizza, tasty mixture of pizza toppings but really it’s the handmade pizza base that is the winner on the night. Light, fluffy chewy n crunchy… Perfect. Worth the trip to find this little out of the way pizzeria.

When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that’s Epolito! We’re talking New York-style large, thin-crusted pizzas with great hole structure and fresh toppings. Less sauce means good-bye soggy pizza and hello crispy, pliable pizza! The slices are so LARGE, it’s best to eat them folded in half like New Yorkers do :)

THIS. PLACE. IS. THE. BUSINESS! Pizza in general is one of those foods that easy to make but so hard TO get it right and boy does Epolitos hit that sweet spot juuuuust right! Full disclosure: as someone who’s grown up in the Chicago area I’m a complete pizza snob and only on rare occasions found pizza that is repeat-worthy in NZ. In fact I held off writing this review until I had been to Epolitos twice to make sure it wasn’t too good to be true. But alas this place has won a strong place in my heart and I cannot vouch for their pizza enough! I’ve got 3 words for you: Sicilian style sausage. For me Epolitos sausage tastes like it’s straight up from home and the crust just makes me want cry with glee and then to eat it first. I can’t even invoke to the age old rivalry between Chicago vs New York styles bc it’s so damn good and the owner respects the Chicago deep dish style. SWOON!

We ordered takeaway from Epolito’s — a whopping 18″ Corleone«house pie». Oh, wow! This is New York style pizza at it’s very best right here in Auckland. The menu is simple with usual staples plus a handful of New York-area inspired names for the more gastronomic options. You won’t find barbecue sauce and pineapple topping these pizzas. Instead, Epolito’s ingredients include the basics like pepperoni, garlic, black olives, sausage(home made) and oregano. Fun fact: One 18-inch pizza has roughly the same area as 1.714-inch pizzas. It’s almost universally a better deal — mathematically, mind you — to just get the bigger pizza. In the unlikely instance that you end up with left over pizza… Who doesn’t love cold breakfast pizza?!

Excellent New York style pizza. Soo yummy and guarantee that I’ll be back. There are some great pizza places in central Auckland but Epolotos would be my pick. We got take out and thoroughly enjoyed devouring the massive pizza at home. I hope lots of people go and check this place out.

New Yorkers rejoice! Pizza lovers, you too. First the sausage topping is a real Italian sausage! Then the base of the pizza has that nice crunch to it, and the crust — my favorite part, is just the right amount of chewy. And to finish the cheese and the sauce have the right salt to oil to flavor ratio. Also the ultimate good pizza test: the next morning I ate cold pizza for breakfast, yup just as delish. The place is not big or fancy, but neither are my favorite NYC pizza places. I was not a fan of the loud music, but I was doing a take out so no biggie. On top of all the greatness, the staff was super friendly. In short place is everything that my Queens soul needs.

I came here based on, yes, Unilocal reviews! I actually had confused it with a different pizza place I read about on Unilocal, oops. Good thing it was still delicious! I ordered a Bianca takeaway — traditionally a white pizza(no sauce!) with cheese, oregano, garlic, and other tasty noms. I wanted sauce though, so the sweet cashier was like«yeah no worries we’ll add it fo freeeeee!» $ 18 for the large, which was 8 slices of tasty. And then that super nice cashier was like«have a seat and we’ll get it ready for you as quick as we can since we know you’re on your way out.» And I think, «oh Ashley,»(her name was also Ashley), «I bet you say that to all the eager customers.» :blushes: I would definitely get takeaway again(and I’m pretty sure my boyfriend would too, as he ate a lot of that pizza, immediately. Soz, bf). I didn’t care for the décor(a purple spray painted Brooklyn bridge) or the music(RILL loud reggae), but that’s just my preference. Seemed really reasonably priced all around. And yes, I can vouch for all these other reviewers, that it tastes like America. Mind you I’m most recently from Chicago, but I hate deep dish(don’t get me started). This pizza right here was thin and delicious. Grab one on your way home and be nice to the other Ashley!

I’ve been dreaming about going to this place again since my first bite a few weeks ago. This place is like a little piece of home in NZ. It helps that the owner is actually from my home town(Buffalo, NY)!!! There is something about this pizza which is just perfect — the cheese/sauce/crust ratio is totally on point, and the greasiness is just right. It’s not the kind of pizza you want to pat with your napkin before eating, rather, let that run down your hands while eating, and just get amongst the pizza goodness!!! As a vegetarian who used to love meat, I have to admit that I was moved to break my streak when I saw that she had homemade sausage on the menu. OHMYGOD. It was SO worth it. That’s all I’ll say. This is a very specific style of American pizza — it’s not your wood fired variety(for that, go to Dante’s), and it’s not your greasy NYC street slice(see: Sal’s). This is a down home western NY style good ol’ American pizza. Come and get it!!!

Epolito’s pizza quite literally tastes like America. It’s hard to describe but it’s something to do with the cheese and that homemade sausage. Plus just like in the land of the free the pizzas are huge — like fold-your-slice-in-half-to-fit-in-your-mouth huge. Despite being super hungry 2 ½ slices was my limit. The wine list is somewhat limited but it didn’t bother me because obviously the way to wash down pizza is with beer and they’ve got some interesting options including Sawmill and Moa. They’ve space isn’t huge but if you can nab a table, I’d definitely recommend dining in. It’s got a great vibe — loud music, an open kitchen and friendly wait staff. I never got try Epolito’s when they were further South but I am STOKED that they’ve reopened substantially closer to home.

Great pizza with authentic NYC texture and italian flavour. The spicy sausage pizza in particular captures the essence of Sicily beautifully. With 14 and 18 inch sizes available to eat in or take away, this place is bound to become a favourite for locals and is worth a visit from those residing further afield. Grazie!

Authentic New York style pizza in NZ! I’ve only tried one so far(the Godfather, with pepperoni, sausage, meatball, onion, mushroom, olive, jalapeño) which tasted great if you’re looking for a hearty, meaty slice. If you can grab a table, it’s an awesome little space to enjoy, but takeaway was convenient given how busy it was. The staff are friendly so drop in for a pizza pie!
