Now, once again the SR and I don’t agree on the rating of this place. For him, the breakfast he had(NZ style fried breakfast complete with kranskys(odd cheese filled sausages)) was just OK, but my smashed avocado was one of the best things I have ever had for breakfast — and I didn’t expect it to be. Perhaps it was the seasoning, as this was a mighty tasty avocado, or the tomatoes, or the deep fried capers(that was a first for me), but the combination presented an extremely tasty breakfast that I hope I can recreate at home. As noted in other reviews, it isn’t the fastest service around, but for me, the wait was worth it.

We were seated outside due to a busy café the day after Toast Martinborough. Unfortunately the wait for our food was crazy and long, when you have a hangover you just want your brunch. Don’t drink coffee but my friend said it was not great. Shame because that was what it was renowned for. On the counter were scones and pastries but I chose mince on toast which was really yummy and a generous portion. Next time I’d have the Spanish eggs — scramblers with tomato, served on oven-roasted potatoes. Generally a good pick for brunch or lunch good pricing. The one area where Medici did disappoint, however, was service. As well as the slow and out-of– order delivery, the table was not set with what we needed so a lot of mucking round.

Excellent lunch of linguine with chorizo and prawns. Everything tasted fresh and the service was very friendly. The back patio is a must for sunny days. A great way to compliment wine tasting in Martinborough!

A most positive dining experience. Four of us enjoyed the environment, and were never rushed to finish up, even though we closed up the restaurant at 10:30pm. One diner enjoyed the beet root and feta risotto, and the other three each order the grilled swordfish(see photos). Side dishes of salad and green bean were needed to supplement the main plate. Desserts, one poached pear, and one coconut/chili panna cotta were okay. A definite return!

I come here almost every time I visit Martinborough. Medici is reliably good, with good coffee, warm, and a pleasing community bustle. The food is varied, and there are some good options, although the breakfast menu can be a bit tame. Their counter food will suit many tastes but I find it uniformly stodgy, basically flour, sugar, fat with or without meat. Not as imaginative as it could be. Still, their blackboard menu is usually superb, and the coffee gets four-stars too. There’s a cosy fireplace in winter, and outdoor dining in summer. All in all this’s a good place to visit, with food options for everyone, and a great atmosphere.

Nice, relaxing space to read the paper over a long lunch. Fresh and tasty café-style fare with fusion flavors abound. Can get crowded on weekends.

A Martinborough-must. Beautiful back patio area during sunny days. Nice menu selection. Their steak and chips and club house sandwich is really nice. Their linguini with chorizo and prawns is really good. And of course you have a nice selection of Martinborough wines to go with your meal. The chocolate mousse filled croissant was amazing. Their staff is also very warm and welcoming, good service. Always a pleasure to come here.

As you drive through Martinborough this is an amazing stop for brunch or breakfast along the wine track. Its located pretty central to in town and surrounded by all the wineries in the area. Its got a great outdoor patio which is absolutely beautiful mid day with a lot of sun. I’m a super big fan of there club sandwich with a nice white wine, but I’ve had there pastas and there breakfast is also top notch. The wait staff is super friendly and the food comes out quickly and fresh. I really can’t say enough about this place. One of my favourite stops along my journey’s through New Zealand and can’t wait to dine here again.
