Good Mediterranean food. North African falafel are my best. Although I hope they serve with reduced sour cream. Baklava for the desert is very nice. Good place to dine out in Orewa

Casablanca is my favourite Turkish Restaurant in Auckland particularly in the north and I am not sure why it is much better than the Sylvia Park restaurant which is apparently owned by the same owner, I’d say it’s the Chef as the food myself and my friend had on one visit wasn’t so great. Although in saying that whenever I have gone to Orewa they have run out of the chicken skewers with mash and so I have never got to eat this. I fell in love with the flavours having a taste of my friends plate, who was lucky enough to have ordered the last portion before the waitress got round to me. The same thing happened the next time I dined here. So I ordered the meatballs, which were blimmin tasty and the portion large, but any sign of roast potatoes that were on the menu as coming with it and I was looking forward to were virtually void on my plate. Then we come to dessert — the chocolate caramel cake is a huge piece that you can’t finish and the pear cheesecake was just perfect. Don’t forget to have an apple tea which is very cleansing and very customary at a Mediterranean joint. The service here is friendly and great. The wine selection good including the Rioja I had was yummy. I will be back here to get that damn chicken dish if it kills me.

Stopped in here for lunch today, after taking a stroll along the beach. We both had the Eggs Benedict, his with bacon and mine with salmon; so I can’t really comment on the Mediterranean aspects of the place. We came away thinking that the meals had been good, but somewhat overpriced — $ 21 per plate, and the food wasn’t that spectacular. Lots of spinach, which agreed with us; but portion sizes were average at best, and there was no ‘point of difference’ to the dish that would justify the price. I’ve had more impressive eggs bene plenty of times, most often at a lesser price. Still, the location is remarkable, the atmosphere pleasant and smart, and our waitress was lovely. Plus my iced coffee really hit the spot: came with a scoop of delicious coffee-flavoured(I think) ice cream.

Came here on holiday with friends who are regulars. Had the Cherkez Chicken which was out of this world. They had me at ‘creamy walnut sauce.’
