Good location for some decent food while in Bergen. We sat upstairs for dinner and the food was pretty good. What they call«pepper steak» is actually peppered steak not steak served with peppers which is what I thought I would get. But it was good and very tender. Someone else had the halibut with ham which was also okay although the prosciutto really provided all of the flavor versus the fish. Both were served with a smattering of veggies and the obligatory potatoes. The service was spot on and their«house red wine» was actually quite tasty and not too expensive. If you go with a large group, they are very accommodating in bringing the food out at the same time. And while not a fancy décor– it is a little less bar like in the upstairs than down. An «a OK» choice.

Being American I found the steak to be significantly sub par along with the service as well. As with everything in Bergen it is pricey compared to American standards however I realize that I am not in America. A coworker and I arrived sometime around 7:00 and finally finished around 9:30! We ordered prawns for an app and I was shocked at how small they were! The service was terribly slow as with all service in Bergen. My steak arrived and it was definitely not mesquite grilled or even grilled over wood as would be expected in The Great Nation of Texas! Hahahaha! I was hungry so I dare not complain, I just ate the food an kept my mouth shut. I guess that I can’t really knock the food too bad as I am not used to the Norwegian style of cooking without spices and their use of sauces.

Definitely an okay place to eat. Pricy? Yes. Edible? Yes again. But it certainly was by no means the best steak I have ever had. I am not sure if it is a Norwegian thing but the steak itself lacked flavor. I think Norwegians rely on their heavy sauces to give things flavor… and in my opinion that kind of ruins a steak. A little salt and pepper when cooking goes a long way… I got a steak medium-rare which was actually cooked appropriately, some gratin potatoes(which were quite good), and the sauteed vegetables. Those were gross. It was almost like they used the leftover vegetables they had and just over cooked them and threw them on a plate. I also got a pepper sauce with it. Would have been much tastier if they had flavored the steak of course. My only other complaint was that this place was highly understaffed for a Saturday night. We had a waiter who was probably running the entire room we were in. He was running back and forth and not able to give the best service to each table. I could sympathize and realize it was not his fault… he busted his ass. But a fine dining establishment could really benefit from having enough people to provide adequate service to paying customers.
