I felt like a hostage at this poorly run restaurant. The smell of deodorant blocks emanating from the toilets hit you when you first walk into the place. The food here is good– fresh fish, well prepared, and well plated. It’s the service that is the sore point for me. We started out with one waiter who took too long to come to our table then greeted us by asking«you know what you want?» We had questions and he made suggestions then another waiter turned up to deliver our main courses. He was really busy because he was working the entire dining room while our initial waiter turned his attention to a couple of regulars. Not to belabor the point, but nobody checked back to see on how we were doing, to ask us if we wanted another glass of wine, etc. It’s all part of service no matter what country your are in. The last straw was trying to get the check. I think if we had gotten up and walked out no one would have cared or noticed. As the Norwegians say: «nei.»

Really excellent food and service. Had reindeer carpaccio and turbot with nut butter. Very nicely prepared on both accounts. Tasty but not too heavy. The sour cream ice desert was very good, obviously freshly prepared and unique. Service was attentive and just helpful enough(waiter wisely recommended the turbot) Hard to find location, down a really Norwegian alley and close to the port. Like eating in a family farmhouse but upscale.

Can’t believe that I am the first to review this place. This is a charming little restaurant located in a small ally right off Bryggen. The building is probably a few hundred years old and its wooden structure couples perfectly with the ambient in the restaurant. I ordered Carpassio of Elk for starter, which is basically deer meat sashimi. I don’t like it that much because of the strong raw meat smell. I guess you really need to be into meat to enjoy it. I had Pan-Fried Reindeer for main course and I liked it. It carries special flavors due to the fact that the meat comes from wild reindeer. (Yeah, I had a lot meat. Because I had been having seafood and really wanted some change) Overall, it is a very nice exotic dinning experience for me.
