Dino’s American Bar

Dino’s bar is an institution in Vienna. You don’t just want to drink a cocktail but you want to have an experience, you go here. Best drinks, awesome staff and perfect bar-​atmosphere make Dino’s a must-​visit for any bar-​aficionado.
The first time I entered Dino’s is certainly more than 10 years ago. I can still remember that day. It was after a gig of 2Raumwohnung relatively close to the bar when a friend told me to go there. «You’ll like it, the owner and you share the same nationality». Not that our nation is known for it’s cocktails, but nevertheless we gave it a go. And so I met Rene, and with that, most of the bars in this world became places of unhappiness for me, as they cannot even closely match the Dino’s experience. Because that is it — an experience. Rene managed to not only run a bar, but to make you feel special every time you come in. It’s the bar, the staff, the drink, just everything. And they care about everybody walking into the place.
The bar itself is not very large — but I feel that it’s part of the atmosphere. When you enter, it’s kind of dark. Wooden panels on the walls with displays of all kinds of bottles with exquisite drinks of various kind. Smooth jazz and jazz-​like music fills the ears and you will be welcomed by the lovely staff of the bar. You either dig in their book of cocktails, which features several own creations, order your favorite drink which they will make to perfection or you ask them for a custom drink. I’ve tried all three options, and every time, I’ve been more than happy with the results. I eventually turned up more frequently, and they staff starts to know your drinks, what you like and what you don’t. Sometimes they recommend you to deviate from your normal drink to try something else. A special version of your drink, or maybe one created by one of the bartenders. Although that might be an understatement. Being a pharmacist originally, Heinz masters the combination of drinks, spices and anything else that fits to create perfect drinks. Featured in multiple contests and having won several of them, Heinz is your man when it comes to special drinks and mixtures.
With those two being long-​time part of the crew, the others have some work to do to catch up in their footsteps. But all others are amazing too. If it is Ercan, who worked a whole while there, Elvis, currently one of the crew of Alex, who seems to disappear and reappear infrequently, they all make you feel very well.
If you are into sweet cocktails, a stiff drink and like to combine that with good music and this American bar feeling you know from the movies, give Dino’s a shot — you won’t be disappointed.
Please note that it’s allowed to smoke in the bar, although normally it’s not a problem at all as the ventilation system is very well. Credit card payments are accepted too.

Die Cocktails sind tadellos, der legendäre Chef werkt persönlich mit großer Liebe zum Detail, der zweite Keeper war ebenfalls extrem bemüht.
Das Lokal selbst hat schon bessere Zeiten gesehen und wirkt ein bisschen runtergekommen und ungemütlich. Bei meinem letzten Besuch war auch irgendein seltsamer Geruch (aus der Klimaanlage?), der den Appetit ein bisschen verdorben hat.

Wenn der Kellner einen fragt, was man gerne trinkt und dann mit einer speziellen Kreation nur für dich daherkommt, weiß man, dass man im Cocktail-​Himmel angelangt ist!
Ich war schon ein paar mal im Dino’s und ich werde mit Sicherheit noch einige Male öfter dort hingehen. Eigentlich ist es fast ein Faux-​Pas im Dino’s einen «Standard”-Cocktail zu bestellen. Es gibt eine Umfangreiche Karte und gerne zaubern die Barkeeper auch mal etwas ins Glas, dass nicht auf der Karte steht.

Haben uns jetz auch in diese ruhmreiche Bar gewagt.
Muss schon sagen, Sie erfüllte die Erwartungen — Cocktails sehr gut, Atmosphäre wirklich stylish und wunderbar mit Musik untermalt.
Die drei Sterne sind zustande gekommen weil die Bar an diesem Freitag einfach rammelvoll war und die Bedienung einfach nicht nachgekommen ist, so hat das leider auch keinen Spass gemacht. Die Bar ist auch sehr sehr verraucht — aber tut vlt auch der Atmosphäre gut ;)
Die Bar ist einfach nicht ganz nach meinem Geschmack, aber wer zwischen € 9 und € 13 für einen guten Cocktail auslegen will oder einen guten Whiskey trinken will, ist hier richtig.

Am Freitag waren wir wieder im Dinos auf einen Cocktail, nur leider ist es wieder nicht bei einem geblieben. Also für mich die besten in Vienna, auch die Location gefällt mir sehr gut. Die schummrige Stimmung, die Musik einfach toll für einen entspannten Abend …

Tolle Bar! Der Barkeeper Heinz ist wohl der Beste in Wien und sicherlich einer der besten Keeper im gesamten deutschsprachigen Raum, extrem fachkundig und dabei auch noch freundlich und zuvorkommend!
Ein kleiner Minuspunkt ist nur, dass das Lokal schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen ist und ihm eine kleine Renovierung nicht schaden würde, das wird aber durch die Qualität der Drinks und die Professionalität des Personals mehr als aufgewogen. Eine der besten Bars in Wien!

as it goes, its a great bar with great bar staff and pretty good cocktails. been there a couple of times already cause a friend of ours is a real fan, knows all the bartenders and half of the really enormous cocktail menu by heart ;) its always great going there cause its a chilled atmosphere and the drinks are indeed very good. minus point from my side, seeing as i am an avid non smoker, its smokey ;(

Der Laden ist top!
Freundliche Kellner, schnelle Bedienung, ausgezeichnete Cocktails, sehr faire Preise, gedämpfte Musik und etwas gesetzteres Publikum. Wunderbar um sich bei ein paar Drinks mit Freunden bestens zu unterhalten.

Ein Klassiker Immer voll Tolle Karte Ambiente unschlagbar

This is, hands down, the best place in Vienna, if not all of Austria to get a good stiff drink. If the drink you’re looking for isn’t amongst the odd hundred cocktails on the menu, then just have a short chat with the bartender and he’ll certainly cater straight to your wishes.
I have so far yet to taste a drink there that is not a perfect blend of liquor, fruit and, on occasion, cream. The bartenders will also gladly come up with non-​alcoholic ones, even if you have a specific, yet vague wish such as «I’d like a cocktail with mint, but it shouldn’t be based on cream, and I don’t want it to taste too minty either.»

Die absolut beste American in Wien. Da stimmt einfach alles. Mehr kann ich dazu nicht sagen.

I visited this bar on the basis of the other English review. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Having visited on the basis of that review, it is ironic that I now share the reviewer’s concern about spreading the word. On the one hand, I want to tell the whole world. On the other hand, I greedily want to keep the secret. Even though I may never even make it back to Vienna.
There is a bartender here named Heinz Kaiser, which I almost think must be a pseudonym. Regardless, the man is a genius.
I have drunk Bloody Marys all my adult life. I have been drinking Virgin Marys since I was a very little boy. I know what is a good Bloody Mary. What Heinz made me expanded my mind. He uses a clear «white tomato juice» which he makes himself by filtering fresh tomatoes through a cloth. He has homemade cucumber infused gin. He uses an egg white, and his own concoction of spices. The beverage he creates raises the Bloody Mary bar to a level I could never before have fathomed.
He made my wife a cola-​free Cuba Libre with tamarind and cloves. It tasted exactly like it had Coke in it, but better.
He combined a homemade blue cheese infused liquor with a chocolate liquor. As he explained to us, the two flavors affect the same area of the tongue, so you cannot taste them separately. Rather, they create a new flavor. A new kind of delicious.
He also made me a marvelous vodka dirty martini.
He brings a passion and a creativity to his work that is truly unique and almost worth the transatlantic flight all on its own.
We came in on a Wednesday. The place was practically empty. It was warmly decorated and quiet. They were playing old jazz standards. Heaven. I hope these positive reviews won’t ruin it.

Am Freitag waren wir im Dinos, da ich ein Fan der Musik von Dean Martin bin. Jedoch waren wir zu früh dran. Es war 18:30. Draussen war es noch hell und innen total dunkel. Das ist dann wie wenn man in eine Höhle gehen würde. Wir waren die ersten Gäste. Die Jacken wurden uns vom freundlichen Kellner abgenommen und in eine Garderobe gebracht und eine Zettel mit einer Zahl gegeben. Nach 10min gesellten sich noch 3 junge Damen ins Lokal. Die Cocktails sind nicht gerade billig, dafür sind sie stark und gut. Es wurden ein Glas Wasser und Soletti dazu gereicht.
Einen Punkt Abzug das es kein einziges Lied von Dean Martin gespielt hat. ;-)

This is one of those reviews that you almost don’t want to write because you’re afraid the secret will get out and the five stars will somehow become diluted. No matter, in the best of the spirit of Unilocal,I proudly give out one of my few five star reviews to Dino’s. This is, and I know what I am about to say shouldn’t be taken lightly… my favorite bar in the entire world. In fact, this is the bar where hubby and I and two of our closest friends came up with our retirement plan (no, really…)
Dino’s is amazing. When you walk in, you feel like you are in that really chic basement bar that you always wanted to create, surrounded by 50 of your closest friends. If you had a basement that had tiered seating levels and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of random, obscure alcohol lining the walls.
Read the menu, the Lemon Drop is my personal favorite, but… ask the bartender what he recommends. In a recent visit, the bartender came up with an obscure drink for my better half simply by asking him what he liked and what tastes he was craving. Remember those Pisco Sours of your backpacking days through Chile — he can make one better (or at least it tastes so after 20 years…) The bartenders are masters at their crafts. And they will remember you even months later (not that one should go months without going…)
This is not the tourist crowd, and these are not the young drunks or those out to consume as much as possible. This bar, in my opinion, epitomizes what a bar should be. Honest, refreshing, and somewhere you can feel at home. Even in your ball gown. (Though no ball gown required)

gute, zentrale lage.

eine der besten Adressen in der Stadt, wenn es um gute Coctails, nettes Ambiente und gute Gäste geht. sehr gemütlich, Parkmöglichkeiten innenstadt bedingt schlecht, also besser Auto stehen lassen und öffentlich fahren.

Hier gibt es Vodka Chopin!!! Dieser rare und fantastische Vodka ist diesseits der polnischen Grenze eigentlich nicht zu bekommen.
Das personal bemüht sich sehr um die Gäste, die Musik bewegt sich im nie nervigen Swing bereich. Einzig sieht der Laden etwas verlebt aus. Ein neuer Satz Tische und Stühle wären schon alles, was man sich wünscht.

Nach meiner Ansicht DIE beste Bar in Wien — vor allem im Winter!
Perfektes Service und perfekt gemischte Getränke!

Für Liebaber von süßen Coktails: Bubblegum eine geniale Eigencreation

Eine Cocktailbar wie sie im Buche steht. Gut laut Titel eine American Bar, aber was anderes als Cocktails trinke ich hier sowieso nicht.
Das erste Mal war ich hier bei eminer Abschiedsfeier von Kollegen. Wir waren in der Stadt gewesen, das Dinos war der Ausklang. Genauso gut könnte man es umgekehrt machen, von der Lage her. Wobei als Abschluss wahrscheinlich besser, weil nicht sicher ist, wann man sicher wieder vom Dino’s losreißen kann und ob einem nach der gemütliche Stimmung drinnen dann überhaupt noch nach Partylaune ist.
Von außen schaut es eigentlich nicht so toll aus. Eine grüné Tür, darüber der Name und das wars. Kein Fenster in das man verstohlen spähen kann, ob die Bar nach seinem Geschmack ist. Aber keine Sorge, das ist sie bestimmt. Wer gerne gut Cocktails in einem angenehmen Ambiente genießt ist hier richtig aufgehoben. Übrigens meiner Meinung nach eine der Bars, wo es die besten Cocktails Wiens gibt.
Dunkle Möbel, dazu Jazzmusik. Ein gut gemixter kühler Cocktail in der Hand, eine anregende Unterhaltung. Wer nicht so für Cocktails zu begeistern ist oder einfach von Dean Martin, der musikalisch auch immer wieder neben anderen amerikanischen Musikgrößen zu vernehmen ist, in die richtige Stimmung gebracht wird genießt einfach einen Bourbon. Angeblich die größte Sammlung des Landes hat sich hier eingefunden.
Was, also frage ich, will man mehr?

Klein aber fein, mit elegantem Ambiente. Die Kenner gehen gerne hier her, also sollte man nicht zu spät kommen, sonst gibt es nur noch wenige Stehplätze. Aber mit einer Reservierung können auch Gruppen Platz finden.
Dies ist meine absolute Top-​Location für Cocktails! Dino himself steht an der Bar und kennt alle Cocktails aus der Karte auswendig. Das wäre ja nichts besonderes, wenn die Karte nicht geschlagene 52 Seiten lang wäre!
Die Kellner sind ebenso klassig. Wer sich nicht für einen Cocktail entscheiden kann, bekommt was der Kellner für den Jeweiligen für passend hält, und liegt dabei immer richtig.

Als gebürtiger Wiener, der jetzt seit geraumer Zeit in Deutschland lebt, komme ich bei jedem Wienbesuch immer wieder gerne ins Dinos, zu Rene, dem meiner Meinung nach nettesten und besten Barkeeper in Europa. :)
Ich besuche das Dinos seit meinem 21. Lebensjahr in unregelmässigen Abständen, war schon öfters allein, oder in Begleitung dort, aber immer wieder fasziniert mich das Flair das auf dem nur wenige Quadrtatmeter großen Bereich vorherrscht.
Das Dinos ist klein, zugegeben, aber groß was Service & Geschmack der Cocktails anbelangt. Und ich habe all die Jahre den «Mann mit der Brille» hinter der BAr beobachtet, und gemerkt wie sehr er seine Vision einer Cocktailbar liebt und schätzt. Und auch dafür, und für viele vergangene angenehme Stunden in entspannter Umgebung, mit tollen Drinks, ein «Daumen hoch»!

Das Lokal selbst ist sehr gepflegt eingerichtet, so ist auch das Publikum. Am Fachwissen der Kellner/​Barkeeper gibt’s nichts zu meckern und die Drinks waren immer tadellos.
Aber:
Ich habe mal den Fehler gemacht im Dino’s nach einer Whisky-​Karte zu fragen weil ich gehört hatte dass es dort eine sehr große Auswahl geben soll — die Antwort war: Ich bin die Whiskykarte, was ja eigentlich nichts Schlimmes ist. Den arroganten Ton hätte er sich bei mir zumindest sparen können. Und durch eine Karte stöbern zu können finde ich persönlich besser als mich beraten zu lassen — worauf man ja im Zweifelsfall zurückgreifen kann.
