Maschu Maschu

Ich muss ganz ehrlich sagen — bis auf den Falafelwrap habe ich im Maschu Maschu noch nichts gegessen. Das liegt aber daran, dass dieser so unverschämt gut ist. Die Falafel sind exzellent und stets frisch zubereitet. Auch die weiteren Zutaten heben sich von den meisten anderen Lokalen ab. Mithalten kann hier nur mehr die Falaferia.
So wie es aussieht muss ich noch viele andere Gerichte kosten, wenn ich mir hier die Fotos so anschaue.
Die Preise für ein Sandwich bzw. Wrap liegen zwischen 5,5 € und 7,5 € — Sind also «studentenbörserlfreundlich».
Wer auf der Suche nach authentisches Essen ist, ist hier bestens aufgehoben.

4 Hauptspeisen kamen zeitlich stark versetzt zu Tisch und waren lieblos hergerichtet.
Die Nachspeise eine Zumutung und nicht im geringsten den verlangten Preis wert.
Originell ist der «Service Ruf» Knopf an jedem Tisch, der allerdings nicht bewirkt, dass der Kellner kommt– erst beherztes Winken führte zum Erfolg.
wir waren in den letzten Wochen hier aufgrund der guten Lage 2x Essen, werden aber nicht wieder kommen: Die Qualität scheint auf konstant niedrigem Niveau zu bleiben.

Wie kann es sein, dass Hundebesitzer mit ihren Hunden nicht hinein dürfen?
An einem normalen Tag, zum Mittagessen?
In einem Lokal das weder mit weiß gedeckten Tischen noch Candle Light aufwartet? Einem Lokal wo man rasch einmal mit Freunden etwas Essen möchte…ich finde das extrem unfreundlich und ich werde MIT ODER OHNE Hund dort sicher nicht mehr hingehen!

Mittags recht voll, was aber bei der Lage durchaus zu erwarten ist. Der Falafel-​Burger XXL mit Süßkartoffel-​Pommes ist für einen guten Esser bewältigbar und schmeckt hervorragend. Auch die Limonana kann sich sehen lassen.
Ich komme wieder!

Die besten Falafel der Stadt steht dem Banner. Schreiben kann man ja vieles. Ich für meinen Teil war sehr enttäuscht von dem Essen hier. Ich hatte einen Falafelteller. Der kam sehr schnell, um genau zu sein noch vor dem dazu bestellten kleinen Bier. Der Salat am Teller ist lieblos angerichtet und geschmacklos. Die Falafeln kommen aus dem Warmhalter und sind daher recht trocken. Geschmacklich sind sie auch eher fad, da haben einige Schnellimbisse mehr zu bieten, geschmacklich und bei der Frische. Das Pita Brot war alles andere als frisch.
Das Lokal selbst finde ich ganz nett und der Service war gut. Bringt halt nichts, wenn das Essen nicht gut ist.

We stopped here for a lunch on a hot summer weekend. Great patio, thick shade and lots of food options. I had the weekly special, shrimp and calamari salad. The shrimp and calamari were grilled and spiced to perfection. Absolutely delish! The rest of the greens under them were underwhelming, bland and without any seasoning. However, this couldn’t ruin the greatness of the seafood.
The one big issue I have, especially in the summer, is to charge for tap water. Here a glass will be a full euro. Hope you’re not thirsty, or dehydrated in the heat!

⁴⁄₅ atmosphere, ⁴⁄₅ for price, ²⁄₅ food (but I tried a daily special), ⁵⁄₅ service, ³⁄₅ for business strategy. Overall Meh.
I ordered a calamari and prawn salad. Looked great, but prawns were the only nice thing about it. Calamari was hit and miss with half being way too chewy. The salad was bland, where too much oil and raw onion was overwhelming. The prawns were amazing. Saved my last one for last as it was the only thing done right and containing salt!
They say they are the best falafel in town, buuut, Dr. Falafel in naschmarkt is pretty amazing. This will need to be tested! Next time… Too hot to enjoy a warm meal.
One thing I don’t understand about some businesses in Vienna, including this one, is that they charge for tap water. It’s summer, hot as hell, and I’m supposed to pay a euro for water? 1 star lost for the principle.

Neubau’s Maschu Maschu is well on its way to becoming a Vienna institution. It hold’s sway on the busy intersection of Linden and Neubaugasse with a popular Schanigarten on the Linden Street side. This is Israeli and Middle Eastern food in great variety which I appreciate having been in the Middle East a few times in my life.
One of the best meal values in all of Vienna is the Vorspeisenteller here. This large combo platter is like a Wikipedia of Middle Eastern street foods. There are boreks, sambusaks, vegetable dumplings, spring rolls, mozzarella sticks, falafels, broccoli cheese nuggets, and a green salad with a tasty creamy tzatziki anchoring the flavor diversity. And all this for under nine Euros. Yes that is not a misprint. What I especially like about Maschu Maschu is that they have complimentary condiments including a delicious chili concoction and an amba sauce to add to the flavor variety. Now I do have to say that much of the fried food here does appear pre-​cooked and merely heated up when ordered. This makes for very fast service and the need for fewer cooks in the kitchen. This is a practice many restaurants do that I’m not overly fond of. Maschu Maschu would cost more and have slower service but be five star if everything was coming hot out of the frying pan and onto your plate. But still with its good atmosphere and competent servers — this a fine Eastern Mediterranean restaurant in Vienna.

I had heard only good stories about Maschu Maschu and I have to agree — it’s amazing! The place is quite big and if the weather is good, then an outside seating is available as well; service is friendly and fast, the atmosphere — cosy, the food — good! Portions were big and even though the waiter apologised and said that my order might take some time, because they were out of meat (which seemed quite weird at that moment), food actually came much sooner then I expected after such an announcement. I had a «Schuarma Teller» and I was happy with it :)

Die Maschu Maschu Filiale im Bermudadreieck am Rabensteig habe ich bereits vor einiger Zeit mit 3 Sternen bewertet. Nun also die Filiale in der Neubaugasse.
Der Unterschied zwischen beiden Filialen ist augenscheinlich. Die Filiale im Bermuda-​Dreieck wirkt klein, dunkel und ein wenig grindig. Die Filiale in der Neubaugasse ist groß, hell und deutlich einladender. Das Publikum hier jung und hipp, vielleicht gar ein wenig bobo-​esk.
Natürlich gibt es in der Neubaugasse auch Shawarma und Falafel. Dennoch scheint mir die Auswahl an Speisen und Getränken dort deutlich größer zu sein. An diese Vielfalt an orientalischen Vorspeisen und Burger kann ich mich nicht erinnern, wobei das Maschu Maschu es gar nicht nötig gehabt hätte, dem Burger Trend zu folgen.
Die orientalischen Speisen sind authentisch. Die Falafel sind für mich zwar nicht die besten der Stadt, aber sie gehören durchaus zu den besseren. Das Hummus schmeckt wie in Israel. Melanzani-​Salat und Krautsalate sind frisch. In der Getränkeauswahl finden sich auch israelische Biere.
Ein Besuch im Maschu Maschu lohnt auf jeden Fall. Große Portionen zu akzeptablen Preisen locken.
Der Service besitzt nicht den zuweilen pampigen Schmäh, den man als Gast am Rabensteig zuweilen ertragen muss, ist aber auch nicht übermäßig aufmerksam. Dieser Umstand und der Fakt, dass das Sababa in der Rotenturmstr. qualitativ noch besser ist, kosten das Maschu Maschu den fünften Stern.

Hatten großes Glück und konnten am SA mittags ein Plätzchen finden. Das Essen beweist auch, warum es dort so voll ist: das Maschu Maschu bietet richtig gutes levantinisches Essen! Die Portionen sind (anders als bei Neni’s) nicht gerade klein. Ich hatte gefüllte Teigtaschen, die schön heiss und nicht fettig waren weil frisch gemacht. Dazu gab’s verschiedene Dips aus Melanzanimus, Hummus etc. Alles top!

Ob sie wirklich die besten «Falafel in Town» haben, kann ich nicht beurteilen (wer kennt schon alle Falafel in Wien?), ich kann aber sagen, dass sie mir geschmeckt haben ;)

If this is the «best falafel in town,» then the standard is obviously very low in Vienna. Falafels were undercooked and under-​salted. The cabbage that came with the Falafel Platte was dry and had obviously been sitting around all day. And most insulting to the customer’s intelligence: the Falafel «Platte» is EXACTLY the same size as the Falafel «Teller», the only difference being that you get two extra falafel balls, for a difference of more than 2 euros. Once again, the only reason I can imagine why this place stays in business is because it’s cheap (by Austrian standards) and there aren’t that many alternatives for people who want to eat vegan in Vienna.

Wien am Abend, special. Draußen war es uns doch schon zu frisch. Drinnen war ein heftiges Stimmengewirr. Die Karte bietet viel Auswahl und die Behauptung «best falafel in town». Ja, das Essen war lecker und die Bedienung freundlich. Auch der Wein aus Israel sollte mal gekostet werden: schon sehr speziell — aber eine gute Empfehlung.

Hier kann man echt gut orientalisch essen. Egal ob Suppen, Falafel, Pitas oder Hummus — mir schmeckt hier alles. Die Speisen gibt’s auch zum Mitnehmen. Draußen gibt es einen netten Schanigarten, der meistens sehr voll ist. Also lieber reservieren.

Das Essen ist super lecker, werde aber nieee wieder da hingehen weil das Personal schlicht und weg unfreundlich ist das bleibt nicht nur dabei sie sind auch noch frech zu einem, der besitzer sollte da mal ordentlich aufräumen denn so werden die noch viele kunden verlieren !

Das Maschu ist ein beliebt-​bekanntes orientalisch-​modernes Restaurant in der schönen Neubaugasse, wobei ich die Beliebtheit des Lokals nicht unbedingt nachvollziehen kann. Ich war einige Male zum Mittag– oder Abendessen dort — dabei war der prägnanteste Eindruck, dass das Service immer extrem lang gedauert hat und das Personal ziemlich unfreundlich war. Die Speisen sind gut, z.B. der Mix Teller mit Falafel, Hühnerkebapfleisch und Hummus bzw. die Mix Platte, die von einer Person kaum zu bewältigen ist, aber «best falafel in town» finde ich übertrieben — da gibt’s bessere.
Nach Betreten des Lokals gelant man in den Nichtraucherbereich mit einer Bar und recht vielen Tischen, die meist gut besetzt sind. Dahinter befindet sich ein kleinerer Raucherbereich, in dem verhältnismäßig weniger los ist. Am schönsten ist es im Sommer jedoch im kleinen Gastgarten.
Es ist okay im Maschu zu essen — gut aber nichts besonderes. Das größte und schlimmste Manko ist auf alle Fälle das Service. Bei schnellerem, freundlichen Personal wäre es gleich viel netter im Maschu.

Ich gehe relativ selten orientalisch essen und mache einen großen Bogen um Kebab-​Stände (nicht, weil es nicht schmeckt, sondern weil ich der Fleischqualität nicht traue). Das Maschu stellt aber eine Ausnahme da. Sehr gutes Hummus, die Falafeln sind auch gut (reichen aber nicht an Dr. Falafel am Naschmarkt heran), das Fleisch ist kross, die Portionen groß. Allerdings ist mir in Relation ein bisschen zu viel Salat auf den Tellern und das Sauerkraut passt auch nicht dazu.

One word describes this place and that is QUICK.
We popped in on a saturday afternoon for a quick lunch on the way home and quick is that what we got!
Sat down and within minutes the waiter came over to take an order, we weren’t quite ready so we asked for a couple of minutes. Well in 2 minutes he was back. We ordered and my wife went off to the loo. Well in less than 30 seconds the food was there followed shortly by the drinks. I was stunned and as was my wife when she came back. Quickest service ever! We sat right in front of the kitchen area and I soon saw why they were so quick. MIS-​EN-​PLUS! There were 2 or 3 dishes pre plated and a huge amount of prep ready to go. The two chefs worked quickly and incredibly efficiently to serve the hundreds of customers there. The place was absolutely full but no one waited more than 2 minutes for their food. The table behind us ordered, the waiter entered the order into his handheld, took 3 steps, got the food and presented it to them. WOW! They didn’t even have time to take a breath.
Sure its not fine dining or chic or anything but if you need a really quick lunch there is literally nowhere else on earth that can deliver faster than Maschu Maschu!
Oh and the food was delicious too…

Samstag Mittag = wirklich voll dort. Aber wenn an Glück hat ergattert man sich einen Tisch.

Essen = kommt so rucki zucki, genau genommen ca eine Minute nach Bestellung
Fazit = wahrscheinlich die beste Falafel in town

Wahsinnig unfreundliche Bedienung. Ich geh schon seit 20 Jahren zu Maschu und überlege jetzt nicht mehr zu gehen.
Wir bekamen auf unsere Bitte um Eis genau 2 Eiswürfel. Auf die Frage nach mehr verdrehte der Kellner die Augen. Später brüllte er aus einem anderen Grund herum. Langsamer Service, auch die Typen an der Bar wirkten sehr unfreundlich.
Das Essen war früher mal spitze, jetzt sind vor allem die Salate eher alt. Falafel ist nach wie vor gut, aber wenn man angebrüllt wird schmeckt es nicht mehr.
Sie haben uns außerdem ein Brot zu viel auf die Rechnung drauf geschlagen.

Ob «Best Falafel in Town» oder nicht, kann ich nicht beurteilen. Meine Falafelerfahrung beschränkt sich zurzeit auf Maschu und Dr. Falafel. Dennoch kann ich sagen, dass es große Unterschiede bezüglich des Geschmacks und Konsistenz gibt.
Das Maschu Take-​Away wurde unlängst von mir und meinen Kollegen in der Mittagspause (35 Minuten Zeit) angepeilt, da mich die vielen Unilocal Berichte einfach erstaunten.
3x Falafel-​Teller zum Da-​Essen, waren schnell bestellt. Nach etwa 10 Minuten waren alle drei Gerichte fertig, wir saßen uns zu zwei Tische, da einer für uns zu schmal gewesen wäre (ist ja auch eigentlich auf Take-​Away ausgelegt, also passt schon).
Falafeln waren gut, Portionen waren ok, Gerichte waren ziemlich schnell fertig. Preislich gesehen finde ich es einfach zu teuer.

Anscheinend geht’s dem Mashu zu gut. Lange Wartezeit, unmotivierter Kellner und kaltes Essen. Dafür, dass der Pita-​Mix fast 5 € Kosten eine ziemliche Enttäuschung! Fügt sich nahtlos in meine Boboville-​Servicewüsten-​Erfahrungen ein …
Ich geh nicht mehr hin!

Sonntag Nachmittag, in Wien eine ganz schlechte Zeit um überhaupt irgendetwas zu machen.
Wenn sogar im Umkreis mehrer Kilometer alles auf der Eselsohr-​Liste zu hat, muss man sich halt darauf einlassen, einen Happen zu Essen, in dem Laden wo man sowieso schon 4000 mal vorbeigegangen ist.
Best Falafel in Town, heißt es ja bereits auf dem Straßenschild, dazu kann ich leider keine Bewertung geben, Falafel ist schlichtweg einfach nicht meins, also bleiben wir bei der Auswahl zwischen XXL Chicken Burger und Schnitzel hängen. Mit Schnitzel kann man so gut wie nie was falsch machen also los.
Beide Portionen waren rasch bereits angeliefert und dass auch in üppiger Größe. Das Schnitzel bekam in der Panade mit bisschen anderen Gewürzchen als üblich seinen orientalischen Touch, dennoch sehr sehr gut, auch die selbstgemachten Pommes waren sehr fein.
XXL Chickenburger meiner Begleitung hat sich sein XXL bestimmt verdient. Für mich als eher haglichen Esser wärs dann aber doch nichts gewesen, da er in Kombination verschiedener exotischer Saucen und Zubereitungsarten kommt. Nichtsdestotrotz sicher sehr empfehlenswert, wenn auch nicht mein persönlicher Geschmack.
Eine nette Atmosphäre, guter (wenn auch nicht überragender) Service und leckeres Essen. Mehr braucht man dann auch nicht für einen guten Sonntagnachmittag.

This is another place I always walked by but never went too. I figured that the «Best Falafel in Town,» was all talk.
I was wrong. The Falafel plate was great and the vegetables quite fresh. I agree that their hummus was a little too «creamy,» but not bad overall.
We also had the chicken which was well seasoned.
I’ll be back for sure.

My interest was piqued upon seeing its recommendation on the ‘Use-​It map’ as the best falafel place in town. The first time i was there, i ordered a pita falafel takeaway. Contrary to what people thought of vegetarian food, this tasted smacking good & after chowing down half of it, my stomach felt almost full.
The next round i was here, we sat inside the restaurant. The outdoor seating fills up pretty quickly, especially during weekends. Food was served fast & a quick glance around showed that it’s mainly frequented by locals.
The portion size, especially the burger was quite big. It’s also nice to note that a waiter kindly brought out aluminium foil & plastic bag for a customer to pack his unfinished food away.
Overall, a place i would recommend for those in search of good food & different flavor from the usual Viennese eatery.

Good, cheap, quick lunch with friendly service. Had the mixed tortilla (chicken and falafel). Really liked all of the veggies and pickles that came in it. Humous comes in it and you can add your own spices/​sauces. The falafel was definitely not the best I have had in Vienna, it was a little bland… If I went back I would probably just go for the meat tortilla.

Waow, the food was so good and the portions so generous i simply LOVED it!
The falafels are definetely delicious, but the rest of their oriental menu is very tasty as well! The pitas, humus, tsatziki, salats, meat and co are as good as you can dream of… don’t forget trying the mango lassi!
And if you choose one of their home-​made burgers, the chicken’s or the vegetarian’s ones, you won’t be disappointed either!

I am a Maschu Maschu fan so my review maybe one sided.
But cheap good and mostly healthy food is always good in my books.
Great service, great location, great atmosphere, what more can you ask for.
To put it simply. GO THERE AND TRY IT YOURSELF, you will not regret it.

It really is the best falafel in town. I’ve only been to the to-​go section, but I’ve had both the falafel and mixed durums and they are both incredible. Super fresh with a big variety of vegetables and sauces, and I even found the kebab meat to be excellent too. Go for the wrap over the pita… it’s a little bit extra, but it’s a lot neater and, IMO, tastier.

Burger is a bit bland (and extremely messy) and the fries are undercooked. :-(Stick with the falafel dishes, which they do very well.

Not recommended. Bought a falafel sandwich takeaway. The food did not look fresh, the hygiene standards (pick up both money and food) was not welcome, and most of all, the food tasted. well justcrap. Seriously, I did not know that one could make a felafal sandwich taste poorly. Thanks to Maschu for that. I would not return and would recommend anyone looking for a fast food takeaway bite to try elsewhere, anywhere

Maschu Maschu is quite close to my house so I’ve eaten there and had take-​out a few times. The food is okay and seems pretty fresh (and I really like their stuffed grape leaves); however, the hummus never fails to disappoint me! I think it’s something about this city; I’ve yet to have good hummus here that wasn’t homemade!
This is a very vegetarian-​friendly place, great for take-​out, and it has good mango lassies (lassis?). I know other people that like their hummus, but I am certainly not one of them as it tends to be too creamy and just taste kind of .off.
They also have kebabs and falafel, and offer a wide variety of condiments and accoutrement/​vegetables for the various sandwiches and dishes. My fiancé doesn’t like their pita bread, but if memory serves me correctly, I do.

Enjoyable place to hang out and enjoy traditional hummus, falafels, grills and salads. The food is enjoyable and good value overall. The restaurant is also very popular with the locals.

If you want falafel it’s a good place to go but definitely not best in world.

Den «best falafel in town» hatte ich eine zeitlang so oft, dass ich mittlerweile kein Falafel mehr essen kann. Im Maschu Maschu lässt es sich zwar gemütlich sitzen, in letzter Zeit gehe ich aber meist nur zur «Armenausspeisung» (Zitat Katriina J) nebenan und hole mir ein Schuarma zum mitnehmen. Nach meiner Lebensmittelvergiftung die durch ein Kebab ausgelöst wurde esse ich ja kein türkisches Fast Food mehr, dem Schuarma vom Maschu Maschu vertraue ich aber immer noch: gute Fleischqualität und vor allem wunderbares Kraut und Humus ergeben einen tollen Snack. Preislich liegt es zwar über dem Durschnittskebab aber dafür geht man auch keine gesundheitlichen Risiken ein.
Über die anderen Filialen kann ich nichts sagen, laut Unilocal Meinung scheint die Niederlassung in der Neubaugasse aber ohnehin die Gemütlichste zu sein.

The food there is excellent and inexpensive. We had a meal for 5 people for only 60 EUR. I had the cream sweet potatoes soup, and fried tofu with vegetables — and it was great! For me the only problem with the restaurant was the free smoking on the premises. If you’re a non-​smoker you have a huge problem sitting in this restaurant.
