I’ve eaten schnitzel all over Germany, Austria, and California, and this is really the best of the best. I was a little apprehensive when I first walked up because the place was empty. The cook/server/owner(?) also looked liked he had put everything away already. I realized that it was already after 8pm, which is when many places close for the night. But when I asked him if he was still open, he said yes and asked me what I wanted. I ordered the sesam schnitzel wit pommes.(sesame encrusted schnitzel with fries.) I also had ketchup for 50 cents extra, which is the standard charge at such places. The whole thing came out to under 10 euros which is a total steal. He fried everything up and it was served to me piping hot. One bite and I felt like I had gone to heaven. It was so flavorful, fresh, with a nice crispy crust and with juicy(not to be confused with greasy) and tender pork. In addition, the portion was humungous, so I felt incredibly lucky that I had this whole plate to look forward to. There was absolutely no gristle in the entire 3 pieces. The fries were also cooked to perfection, not like some of the other venues that undercook the fries because they are in a big hurry. I returned the next day to try out the cordon bleu schnitzel with fries. He remembered me from the prior day and decided on his own to sesame encrust it. Slick move on his part, and again I was in heaven. I fall in love through my stomach, so by now I’m crushing on the guy. Despite our lack of a common language, this man understood me in a way no other person in Austria had. On my final day, I decide I absolutely have to hit this joint one more time. I go back to my original order. They don’t sell beer, so I decided to «brown bag» it. Let’s be real. Schnitzel really does deserve a proper pairing of dark beer, and that’s the one thing that place was missing. He saw me indulging and made the«see no evil» face and smiled. Oh how I will miss my adorable schnitzel man and his incredible creations. **Google maps doesn’t currently show the bus lines, but to get there, you can take the 74A bus from Stubentor. Get off at the stop right after the Galleria mall that has the C&A store. Schnitzel Konig will be on the left side of the street.**
