Specht

This surprisingly large place will take you through a labyrinth of tables where locals seem to be engaged in conversation and chow downs.
It is located in one of the side streets of the old city in Vienna, and some colleagues selected it for what we had hoped would be an authentic Austrian meal. Well… It appears the cook’s name is Nabil, and some dishes on the menu are named after him… Lol — so far for Austrian.
We selected some local specialties nonetheless: the veal schnitzel, goulash with dough dumplings, and a traditional vegetarian plate of dumplings with egg. Everything was rather average (prices were pretty average as well, running us € 20 each for the main dish with a beer. Service is extra). We came hungry and the dishes we selected met expectations. The guy who had the schnitzel said it was dry and lacked flavor.
Overall a decent meal I suppose. I would not go back though, it just had nothing to impress with, food took long to arrive, and service met expectations at best.
*They supposedly have wifi but connecting did not work.

Went here twice for pre dinner wine. Lovely venue with great wine, servers were friendly.

Nun mehrere Male Freunde im Specht auf ein Gläschen Wein getroffen. Dafür ist es echt super! Auswahl an guten Weinen, dazu netter und aufmerksamer Service, der Wasser und kleine Knabbereien nur kurzzeitig leer werden lässt.
Wenn man am frühen Abend kommt, hat man noch Chancen auf einen Tisch ohne Reservierung. Zu später Stunde bekommt man mit viel Glück noch einen Platz an der Bar, aber dann ist eine Reservierung empfehlenswert.

Gegessen habe ich hier noch nie etwas aber schon des Öfteren in der «Bar» guten Wein genossen. Ich liebe diese Wohnzimmeratmosphäre, einmal gab es sogar Live-​Music am Wochenende. Super Stimmung.
Auf den Tischen stehen auch immer Knabbereien, die natürlich wunderbar zum Wein passen :)
Service ist recht aufmerksam, man kann auch Tische reservieren, was ich vorschlage, denn es ist normalerweise immer recht voll und Plätze rar.
Im 1. Bezirk ist das Specht immer eine gute Wahl.

So we were walking around after a meal at Figlmüller to get a cocktail and ended up at Specht after walking around for a long time. Upon entry it is very mellow with a nice mix of music, great lighting, etc. But we were looking for a bar, not a restaurant. We sat at the bar, and that was where our nice experience ended. Long story short, I asked for a belvedere martini, dry up and dirty, and the bartender missed the dry part, and I said the martini was ok, and he spent the next 45 minutes making fun of me about how I do not know how to order a cocktail. Literally, laughing at me in front of my party and going on and on about how I do not know the first thing about alcohol… It was so egregious it became humorous… Bottom line he though he was acting totally appropriately, and if I was in a contentious mood, he would have learned a bit more about customer service. Anyway, the degradation would cause me to never go back, even though the space was a great space…
Don’t know the bartender’s name but he had shoulder length dark hair with just a slightly dark white complexion… He was running the bar on Friday April 3, 2015.

Wir waren gestern hier, da uns Ambiente und Speisekarte angesprochen haben. Im
Vorderen Teil des lokales befindet sich eine Kneipe, in der geraucht wird, im hinteren Teil das gemütliche Restaurant.
Das Schnitzel war gut, kam heiß an den Tisch und schlug mit 18,50EUR zu buche. Erstaunt waren wir über je 2,50EUR für Gedeck, Serviette und Gruß aus der
Küche– den wir nicht erhalten haben.
Beim anschließenden bezahlen wurde es dann sehr chaotisch. Erst sollten wir die Rechnung selbst auseinander rechnen, dann wurde gerechnet– aber falsch zu unseren gunsten.
Alles in allem war das Essen gut, der Service mehr lala. Wer keinen Bock auf
Touri schlangestehen beim Figl hat, ist hier richtig.

wir suchten in wien ein restaurant zum abendessen.
sind hier die bereits bekannten qype lokale abmarschiert und alles war voll.
dann kamen wir beim specht vorbei. in qype noch keinen bericht, was wird das wohl sein ?
speisekarte war in ordnung aber ein blick durch die türe zeigte mehr eine szenebar als ein lokal.
egal rein mit uns wir hatten schließlich hunger
wir wurden an einen platz im hinteren bereich des immer größer werdenden restaurant geführt und siehe da ein ganz normales speiselokal.
super freundliche bedienung, sehr aufmerksame ober.
fantastisches schnitzel
ein rundum toller abend
und wir wären fast nicht rein.
