Taberna da Esquina

There are many restaurants in Funchal’s old town, but Da Esquina stands out from the crowd. Relaxed and friendly welcome transforms into impeccably professional service from start to finish. The food is all freshly prepared from well selected local produce, much of which is cooked over the impressive wood burning fire in the garden restaurant. We chose for our main courses the amberjack fish (a softer cousin of tuna) and «porco Preto» wild pig, unusually succulent and full of flavour. We drank one of our favourite Portuguese red wines, Esperao Reserva. A perfect lunch!

Das Essen war hervorragend. Unbedingt probieren: Cataplana mit Fisch und Meeresfrüchte — eine Art ein Eintopf mit tomatisierter Soße.
