Was tired of eating the hotel food so I decided to venture out into town for the afternoon. Quick Unilocal searched led me here. Side note since I haven’t seen other posts about the parking situation. It’s pretty much parking street up and down the streets. Bring change for the parking meter. On this street there is a parking lot about 100 yards before the restaurant on the left hand side. Great local Puerto Rican food. Got the special of the day, rice, habichuelas(beans), chicken and yuca. Chicken fell off the bone. Delicious. Best bang for your buck, $ 5 plate. Cafeteria style ordering.

Ponce is on the southern tip of PR, and is known for a long line of kioskos(food vendor stands) off of the highway. Puertorrican food trucking! But really, they’re not like food stands since they have full bar/restaurant seating available in the back of each. We were debating if we should stop at them, though – in favor of finding a beach to play volleyball(priorities, man) but as we drove by them, I saw a giant sign at one stand for LOBSTER. Lobster to an Asian is like heroin to a junkie. I screamed that we needed to pull over. When you walk in the first view is of three large(CLEAN!) lobster tanks with giant Manila lobsters. Before being sat, I made little finger guns at the lobsters — pew pew! I’m coming for you. My mates already ate from other kioskos(friiiied food uuuuugghh) so I was the only one eating – which seems to be the case most of the time anyways. I chose my 2.2 lb lobster stuffed with grouper fish; it came with a side salad and mofongo(the ubiquitous plantain/cassava/root vegetable dish with garlic.) It was really good! Cooked just right, not chewy. The grouper was flavorful and was good as a standalone dish. The conch salad was okay — its consistency told me it was made the day before. My friends got their second«food» wind and helped me eat it. It was perfect for 3 hungry people so keep that in mind when eating here. I heard one of the waiters say that sometimes they get lobsters up to 10POUNDS! I would need more than my puny finger guns to take that one down. I think with drinks, the bill was around $ 70 plus tip but I felt like it was money well-spent!

Great if you are in a rush. The best chicken I’ve had. $ 13 total for 2 large meals and drink. Cafeteria style. Food is 5 star, ambience is 3 star. Cheap food that tastes amazing. Bartender played bongos

Great food at a great price and they speak English!!! Been in the area for a few days now and have been to an array of restaurants from mid to more expensively priced and can honestly say this place had the best food by far. They offer ready made food but you can also order whatever you want.

Not fancy place. Food is already made. They give rather large portions, very filling. Simply walk up to the counter and start picking what you want. Rice, beans, your choice of meat(beef stew, chicken, fried fish, fried chicken), your choice of sides(yuca, fried plantains, salad, macaroni). Comes with a drink as well, all for $ 7. Ate there for lunch when we were around Ponce. They need to advertise with some signage for the prices and the food they offer because you have no idea till you walk up to the counter to take a peak at the food.

Great food and CHEAP! The chicken was fall of the bone and delicious as well as was the rest of the meal. They only have a few dishes to chose from, but they are very good. The portions are extreme and the prices are extremely low. $ 16 for four meals and four drinks. Definitely recommend! By the way, Unilocal does take you to the right location.

Very simple place, do NOT judge it by it’s looks. Delicious food, huge portions, cheap. Ask a local where it’s at, the Unilocal and Google directions take you a few blocks away.

We came upon this unassuming place as we strolled down the streets of Ponce. We were a little nervous going in since their were couches sprawled out in the front entrance, but we dared to go to the back where they served the food cafeteria style. There had a plethora of dishes available and were also anxious to make us something fresh. There are no menus, but the chef was willing to make us whatever we wanted. He even made a special pico sauce for our fish. He really went out of his way to accommodate us. With it’s loud Spanish music, children helping out their parents work and the Medallas and a full bar this place is a great place to hit up for lunch. Authentic Puerto Rican food is served and you can’t go wrong. It’s cheap and delicious.

Nice and simple when you need a bite and relax. Just a block away from the crazily busy square.
