Great little restaurant, comfortable, great vibe, not touristy. Best selection of local, delicious, fruit juices. Food is delicious, had pork with memorable rub, great sausage and salad. Waitress was very helpful and attentive.

Great local spot in old San Juan. Not touristy. No menu. Really sweet server explains what they have. We had fresh fish in garlic sauce in an avocado with tostones. Roast pork with rice and beans and chicken with sweet plantains. All were really flavorful. So glad we stopped in. Totally reasonable prices. Three meals with 2 sodas and one beer was less than $ 40.

If you visit Old San Juan and don’t eat here you should be slapped. It’s just so good that I had serious reservations about even writing this review because I selfishly want to keep this little gem a secret. My husband hugged the chef and the waitress after our meal. It’s just that good. My tip-go early. We saw them turning tons of people away. I literally would cry if that happened to me.

Had a really great lunch here and maybe the best straight-up pork I’ve tried. We got the sampler plate for 2 which contained: a big pile of pork, a heap of rice and beans, some regular sausage, blood sausage, tostones, Maduro plantains, ham croquettes, avocado, little crunchy fried corn bready things and little pork turnovers with sticky corn outsides. The pork was perfectly cooked and had a killer natural flavor that just blew me away. My wife, who swears by a pork recipe her friend in Thailand used to make says this was the next best thing she’s had. Everything else was great except for the blood sausage, which was a little dry and the rice, which was pretty heavy on the oregano. We paid $ 42 after tax for the sampler, two drinks and a postre. Great value.

No written menu as it changes every day. We stopped in for lunch and ordered the sampler for the two of us and had plenty of food to take home for a second meal. The food was excellent and the presentation was just as good, especially for the price. Would definitely come back again and recommend this to anyone looking for a no frills puertorican meal.

Without question the best food we had in San Juan. We went out of our way to eat local, traditional meals – no fancy dinners, just traditional Puerto Rican cuisine. The food here was unquestionably the best, and their homemade hot sauce should be patented and sold! You definitely do NOT want to pass up a chance to try this food!

Outstanding little find in walking distance of El Morro. Cute small dining area, menu changes daily. The food is amazing and the waitress was gorgeous. A must stop for lunch.

Overpriced undercooked food long wait time to get our food. We ordered a sampler to share for 3 People and got a small amount of cold food. $ 45 dollars later we were out this joint. Maybe they have different pricing for locals or skating but I would avoid!

We came in at 7:15 on a busy night and ended up being the last couple seated – but that’s no reason to be served frozen vegetables. Having waited 40 minutes, we were asked at 7:50 if we’d be fine eating pork and vegetables, and we agreed. Our pork was pretty good, but the vegetables were straight-up frozen corn and green beans. To add insult, we were charged $ 10 for our plates. I don’t blame the waitress – she clearly was trying to make everyone happy. The cook has to understand that her last customers are the same as her first, and they always deserve the best you can give them.

There’s no menu and with my extremely limited knowledge of cooking, ingredients, methods of preparation, and so forth, make it very confusing to decipher between the dishes. So when I heard the word«fish», I just said, «yes, I’ll have the fish», however it may come. The fish turned out to be great! It’s very juicy and tender. It came with rice and beans, which were also good. It still surprises me that puertorriqueños eat white rice. A while back, my first time having Puerto Rican food, I also got white rice. I thought they served me white rice because I’m Chinese: P. The beans were called«habichuelas rosadas», and were cooked with potatoes and squash. The service is very slow here, but the food worth it, so be patient.

Everything was so pricey in the Old San Juan area, so we were very fortunate to Unilocal and find this small restaurant just a few minutes walk from the really touristy area. I ordered a pastel with meat and chose chicken sausage for the side. He ordered a meaty pork chop with sweet plantains. Reasonable portions, great waitress, casual atmosphere, and authentic food! Prices were unclear as they were not listed, but we safely assumed they would be fair, which was correct. As there was only one server, it took a while to get our check and wore out our stay.

Located on the intersection of Calle de Sol and Calle de Cruz. This place a phenomenal! Great taste of Puerto Rican food. We came in hangry and couldn’t help but look over another table group’s choice of dishes. They were sharing what looked like a generous sample platter… We didn’t care that Deaverdura didn’t have a menu available nor would we have even opened the menu. We wanted that. Thus, we went ahead and ordered the sampler platter, which gave us small bites of everything. There was legitimately a little bit of everything. What came on the cute Puerto Rican-shaped wooden platform: beef turnovers(empanadillas), cheese turnovers, ham croquettes, chicken, fried maiz(corn), mofongo, white rice with beans, fried chorizo, fried plantains, and sweet plantains. More than enough for 3 people; easily share-able between 4.

We were looking for authentic Puerto Rican food. We almost stopped somewhere else as it was brutally hot this day but thank heavens we did not. The décor is nothing fancy but very clean. We were greeted by the owner, who we fell in love with. I told her what we were looking for. Never saw a menu. A large platter with a variety of awesome selections arrived and we dug in. What a wonderful experience. Our next time in Old San Juan this will be our first stop

The awesome owner greeted us and suggested the sampler platter which came on a wooden plank shaped like the island. The platter itself consisted of a little bit of everything, and all of it was amazingly delicious. The owner was working by herself but you’d never know. Food came on time and was beyond tasty. Best food we’ve had on our trip so far!!!

Five stars for deaverdura! Simply because the owner was an absolute Jem oh yeah and the food was drool-worthy!!! We came here after a long, HOT day of sightseeing and all we wanted to do was sit in a cool room with a nice cold drink. The owner of the restaurant brought us some mango and guava drinks and recited the 20 item menu to us, explaining everything that was in the classic Puerto Rican foods. We sat there with our mouths open wondering how the hell she memorized all of that. We ordered our meal and in 20 minutes, our beautiful food came to our table. We could tell it was all fresh and made to order and for the price, hell yeah it was so worth it! Nothing glamorous or glitzy. Just honest and good home cooked Puerto Rican food. What else can you ask for when you’re chillin in the Caribbean? We left with full bellies and lots of hugs after scarfing down all that food. I recommend stopping by here whether it’s for lunch, dinner, or to sip out of a coconut after a long day of walking.

I can’t adequately express just how delicious the food is here. We stopped here on our first night in Old San Juan and it was the perfect introduction to Puerto Rican food. Virna, the owner, was a delight! She seemed happy to have us and gave us some drink and food suggestions. We ended up ordering the tour of Puerto Rico which was more than enough grub for two people: pasteles, pork, corn fritters, chicken sausage, fried plantains, rice and beans and more. Everything was equally delicious– probably the best and most authentic food we had during our week stay. Service was laid-back and casual. Give yourself some time to dine and enjoy the experience. My husband and I were celebrating our 1st anniversary, so Virna treated us to an after dinner chichaito shot(white rum with anise liqueur). It went down real easy! The only issue was the slight smokiness in the restaurant, as the kitchen is open to the dining area. The cook was making something spicy and the smoke was irritating my husband’s eyes to the point where he had tears streaming down his face. I just told him to suck it up and keep eating. Pork makes all the pain go away!

Wow! What a way to close out a wonderful vacation in Puerto Rico. Don’t be scared away when you walk in and see just one woman and 7 tables, plus there is no menu! She will tell you everything she has verbally, in English or Spanish. Sit down, relax, and prepare for some yummy authentic food. We had the«Tour of Puerto Rico» a dish with a variety of Puerotrican dishes served on a platter shaped like the island. Every item was deliciously prepared with skill and love, as if you were eating at your grandmas place. The piqué(hot sauce) she makes is wonderful, I wish I could have bought I bottle! Don’t miss out, make this a stop during your visit in Old San Juan!
