Stop in and get a $ 3.50 empanada! Minimal bread stuffed with chorizo, chicken, beef or spinach. Absolutely delicious. We came in and«A View to a Kill» James Bond movie was on wonderful worker sweet guy. Whoever said the staff were rude– well I bet they no longer work here. OMG on our way to another happy hour up the street. So happy we made this quick pit stop. Full bar. Nice spot! Healthy filling snack!!!

I don’t know what voo doo is going on behind that bar, but that was seriously the best sangria I’ve ever had in my life! Oh yeah, and the empanadas are delicious too…

The staff here is rude as hell, the have no customer service what so ever, one of the staff members even tried to fight one of friends because he was wearing sunglasses in the restaurants. This place is really ghetto and should get a whole new staff. If I could give this place a –5 I would.

Good empanadas, freshly baked not fried. Had the churrasco, spinach and chicken, which was the best. Will return for the chorizo or mushroom. Reasonable prices: 3 empanadas, two cold Medalla bers, $ 15. Hits the spot for a snack between lunch and dinner. Friendly waitress. Full of locals. Small place. The owner, who according to reviews does not like to have his picture taken, was there and did not seem friendly but, hey, I am not planning on dating him.

Old San Juan was kind of dead on this Wednesday in April, but Charrua was packed and full of life. Yes, the empanadas truly are other-worldy, easily the best I’ve had. Mushroom-cheese, and beef-bacon were the two I tried. Seems to be the only food they have as well. Cool place. Hit the spot on a few levels.

Stumbled upon this place by accident the first time. and then went back for more 3 days later. This place offers a full bar and the most amazing empanadas I’ve ever eaten. The chorizo was ranked the best amongst my group of friends, but don’t be discouraged if you’re a vegetarian because they offer awesome spinach and broccoli empanadas as well. It’s a little divey, but I typically enjoy those kinds of places. Everything about this place hit the spot! Highly recommend. I would keep coming back for more if I lived here! Or, in the words of my friends«I would live above this place and spend my last dollar here.»

This place makes one of the best Sangria’s I had in San Juan… Just a little place that we happened on by chance. Prices are reasonable, decorations neat and the management is very friendly. Next time in Old San Juan will be back! I corrected the name with Unilocal… Charrua Bistro Café hopefully they change it.

Great place for empanadas and drinks. but really rude owner and bartender. I was taking a picture of the bar and they could have said do not take a picture. but the owner said, and I’m quoting«do you think we are monkeys that you’re taking pictures?» When I asked them what do they mean by that, he said«its my bar, get the Fuck outta here, and good riddance». Would never go back. there was no need for such harsh words, racism and intolerance

As a lover of all things awesome, I love experiencing recommended venues by locals. This place had a lot of potential, until the dick behind the bar decided to say this to my friend who was taking a picture of his bar(which we were enjoying until then)… «We are not monkeys!!» — you are correct, sir. You are not a monkey. I’m just enjoying your bar. Then he proceeded to tell us he didn’t need us in his establishment. Apparently the owner?! Way to turn away eager tourists. Your empanadas are good, but they do not and will not make up for the negative energy and lack of hospitality. By the way, that’s your industry. Hospitality. Yelling at patrons for taking a photo out of admiration!!! Yikes. Good luck. Thank god for the bites.

Stopped by this little place for a drink after dinner. Before we walked in there was a screaming cat on the balcony above the entrance! Had been rescued by the time we left! Fantastic mojito and medalla’s were 2 for 1. Loved the interior of this place, nice cosy authentic feel to it. Sit at one of the tables — the seats by the window were way too hot — no AC and no breeze over there. Going to check this place out again.

Hands down my favorite bar in Old San Juan. $ 5 mojitos, homemade empanadas, and great service. Cute and very eclectic space. They are closed on Sundays but one of the only places open on Mondays. Locals are constantly popping in to take empanadas to go– which is always a good sign.

Awesome little place. Hole in the wall. $ 9 for two waters and two empanadas. Way better than any crap chain place.

This place has good empanadas, but be sure to add the sauces. Hard drinks are very small pours, mostly ice. Bar service is also not great. But overall, I would recommend it if you’re looking for a chill atmosphere with good empanadas.

I stopped in for a quick bite to eat after a day of wandering Old San Juan. They totally don’t kid with their name. It was beer and Empanadas, but it was oh so good. I had 3 empanadas and a mendela, and my bill was $ 8. Total win in OSJ! My husband ate at Subway that day(gross) and spent more then I did on his lunch. It was clearly a local place, which I prefer. Sometimes it gets hard to find homey feeling places when you’re out of town, but this place totally fit the bill. It was a total oasis.

This place is straight up awesome. Fantastic laid back atmosphere with very affordable prices. Stumbled into this bar after walking around the fort in old San Juan. We got a wide variety of empanadas and multiple rounds of drinks. All told the tab was 57 bucks after stuffing and drinking for 4 for more than 2 hrs. Great spot really cool. The empanadas were fresh and fantastic. Time to move to old San Juan.

Really nice relaxed place. Our second time here for late nite coffee and dessert(10 pm). Great waiter. You feel like a regular from your first visit. Cozy place. While we didn’t try any, we hear that the empanadas are great. Definitely check out this place.
