What can I say never been to Puerto Rico but my Puerto Rican’s co-workers all say the sandwiches are the real deal. Definitely go there for a Cuban or Tripleta. U will not be disappointed!!!

The tripleta was ok, not my kind kind of sandwich. Service took very long time because the owner chose to serve a local before us, TWICE. Was a overall poor experience but locals may love it.

This sandwich is awesome!!! It was the best $ 7.50 I’ve ever spent. It was about the size of a football and overly stuffed with pork, chicken & ham. Had cheese, mayo, ketchup, & mustard. I tried it after a few suggestions from Puerto Rican friends. Highly recommend it.

Huge size. A lot of meat. A LOT! Fatty and greasy, very satisfying after a long day at the beach.

Saw the reviews on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We had to wait for 40 min in line to order ours(line moved extremely slow for no reason). The sandwich had too much meat(smoked ham and pork I think) and way too salty. Not worth the wait, don’t be mislead by other reviews. My bf even got stomachach right after eating it.

Holy crap! This is now in my top 10 of sandwiches! My boyfriend and I made a drunken stop by this food cart after an evening out in osj. I’ll admit, we saw something about the tripletas on a tv show and wanted to try one. Living in Philly and based on it’s appearance we expected it to taste like a cheesesteak. Well! This is no cheesesteak! Maybe it’s that I’m not a native Philadelphian but this sandwich far surpassed any cheesesteak that I’ve ever had! And, to be fair, I must say that as a native to western Pa, it also beats Primanti’s! For the cost, the size and the price this is a must-have in old san juan. Wish I had one right now!!!

Night Food Truck parked right near the water, of course the smell pulled me right in. This Tripleta was the size of a football, packed with great meat! Its more of an assembly line Sandwich, but that’s NOT a bad thing. Quick and Hot! You’d better be hungry!

We ended a rather long night of food and alcohol with a ‘last stop of the night’ trip to this food truck. While it was delicious, I would only really return under similar situations. It’s definitely a ‘beer goggles make it taste better’ type of a place.

Eh. With all the rave reviews I expected a lot more from this meat sandwich. It is literally just a pile of meat on a roll. It’s extremely greasy and hard to eat. Took out over half the meat and it became palatable. Don’t be fooled this tastes nothing like a Philly as its described. The only redeeming quality is that is by a nice plaza and we went during a festival with live music an performers.

After watching the NFL playoffs that went to 11PM, we still hadn’t eaten dinner. We had walked by this place on the way to a sports bar and I had a feeling it would be good? Well 11PM not to much was open, so I suggested this place to my wife. When we walked up to this food truck, the line was 10 deep! I had a feeling it was going to be good! A tripleta is like a philly cheesesteak hits latin culture! It is sliced chicken, pork and steak mixed together on a flat top grill served on a nice roll with ketchup, mayo and mustard. We took our sandwhiches of only $ 7 back to the Ritz Carlton and ate them by the pool. They were to die for! It is about 2 blocks to the west of the cruise ship docks by a square where there were other food trucks.

Meat on meat on meat on meat on meat. It’s a meaty sandwich. Truly enormous. Definitely worth your time. I had a few tripletas in PR and I thought this one stood above the rest.

A cut down the middle of a tripleta may show you how my arteries look like after consuming this juicy mouth watering sandwich. But whatever. Life is short and this is definitely the best sandwich I have ever had. I won’t be surprised if they start making tripleta magnets and shot glasses to sell in the souvenir shops. A must try if in Puerto Rico!

Great price and lots of food with quick service to boot! This is not gormet street food by any stretch of the imagination, but was a great quick bite while strolling from the piers to Paseo de la Princessa. Did I mention it was A LOTOFFOOD.

I too had some Tripleta on my last night in OSJ. If you like cheap white bread, deli ham, and a mixed bag of meat stuff in a white hoagie roll for $ 6, go to Tico. It’s not gourmet at all but I sure can say, it was awesome after drinking beer! You can’t be mad at it at all haha My advice: ask them to add the cheese and ketchup or whatever condiment you want on it ONTOP, not on the bread first.

I had this on my last night in OSJ after eating at a more high scale restaurant(smaller portioned) earlier in the evening. Walking past the barrage of food carts near La Casita ranging from tacos to ice cream, the only one with a line was Tico Tripleta. The first thing that caught my eye was the bread, it reminded me of Amaroso’s Rolls, which any good Philly cheesesteak is made on. So to me, the worst case scenario was bad cheesesteak… good bread. What I got was so much more. The meat is cooked up like a cheesesteak, but a mix of beef, pork, and chicken, and on the bread is ketchup, mustard, and mayo. Thats it. Simple. What you get can’t be compared to anything else, its like crossing a cheesesteak with Big Mac’s special sauce… but that doesn’t even do it justice. Again I cant give enough credit to the bread, hands down the best sub roll outside of Philadelphia. I’ve had. Do yourself a favor one night in OSJ, skip the overpriced tourist stops(which I would also highly recommend), and pick one of these up for $ 5.50. Maybe follow it up with a bag of churro a couple stands over for $ 2.50, and people watch from the plaza as you debate a second sandwich.

My boyfriend and I tried this one night while we were just walking around in OSJ… I read the reviews and thought«why not?» So we both ordered our own Tripleta thinking«shit, if it’s really that good, I’ma tear this bitch up!» Well, after about a quarter of the sandwich, I realized that it was just«okay». Nothing earth-shattering, I think I’ve tasted waaaay better sandwiches at Subway or Capriotti’s :)

The Tripleta ranks as one of the best sandwiches in the world. I may have shortened my life span by several years, but life isn’t worth living without having tasting one of these sandwiches. What is the Tripleta? It’s a combination of … get ready for this … ham, chicken, and steak. Mix in some lettuce, tomato, and mayo, and you have the ultimate midnight sandwich. Each mouthful is simply heavenly with alternating textures and flavors. First you have the soft, salty ham. Then you chew through the tougher rib-eye steaks(similiar to Philly cheesesteaks). Finally, you hit the tender and juicy bits of chicken. The meat is shaved thinly so that it falls apart and melts in your mouth. All this could be yours … for $ 5.50. Where do you find this awesome goodness? There’s a nighttime street market in Old San Juan. Look for the cart near the corner of Calle Comerico and Calle de San Justo. The best way, is to memorize my photo before venturing out. And, if it’s not there, just walk around and you’ll find plenty to salivate over. An initial Google search of «tripleta sandwich» indicates that this is a relatively little-known Puerto Rican sandwich. There are some discussions scattered across message boards in Philadelphia and Miami. Mark my words, if the Tripleta makes it big on the Mid-Atlantic Coast, then you saw it here first.(Original discovery: November 15, 2008)
