Love this place. The shrimp tacos are literally perfect, I’ve been here twice on two different trips to San Juan and both have been awesome. I’ll be going back at least one more time before we leave.

If you are looking for old world flavor in Old San Juan, Toro Salao is your spot. It is a Spanish tapas bar, and the food is delicious and service is impeccable. Sangria and paellas are served up in a romantic and historic setting. I’ve been twice and celebrated special occasions here. I’d go back again anytime!

This place was awesome! Great patio in the heart of old San Juan with excellent Spanish style tapas and entrees. Some of the best calamari and empanadas I’ve ever had and 4 different delicious sangrias! If you don’t get the crema for dessert you’re missing out. Joelle was such a good waiter with a great attitude even when it started raining and we had to move inside

Firstly, Patricia is super sweet! Ask for her when you sit down. Secondly, the food is delicious! We had the Jamon Croquettes, Empanadas, Shrimp Taquitos and hummus. Every bite was YUM! The sauces for each item was a perfect complement to them. We also had the tropical sangria — also delicious! They do happy hour where the sangria was only $ 5. Give this place a true if you are just off a cruise ship or hanging out in the area.

The food was amazing! I had the sirloin and the seasoned fries. I also had a coconut monitor, one of the best mojitos I’ve ever had. If your looking for high quality dining in PR I definitely suggest this place! I also loved the outdoor seating. My only complaint was the terrible service. It took multiple requests to be served water. Also, our server mentioned five dollar drinks. However, she failed to mention it didn’t include flavored ones. Instead of apologizing, management and our server argued with us over this. I definitely recommend this restaurant hopefully the service will improve!

Definitely a spot to check out in old San Juan. The Queso fundido was amazing! Definitely recommend it. We also ordered the Claypot Chicken and Pizza Ibérica, both highly recommended. They have a 2 for $ 5 happy hour featuring Stella Artois.

It’s hard for me to gauge this restaurant as the entire place was packed with cruise passengers(as myself). All I know was that we stumbled here during happy hour, had lots of sangria, and decent food. Whether authentic Puerto Rican food or not, I can’t say. But we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.

Delicious food and attentive service. We ordered the mini empanadas, the medditeranian rice, the house fries and the cheese dip and it was all to die for! Our dessert was their espresso brulee cheesecake and that was super delicious as well. Great experience, would return again.

Best sangria around! Paella was good, but not entirely the best. I like when I can see my calamari rings not hunt for them. It also needed saffron. Churros were ok as I should have just waited and bought them from a street vendor. 3 stars. I should have just kept walking, but I was tired and needed to sit.

The seafood paella must be the best paella I have ever had. Full of flavor, just the right amount of spice, brothy and buttery, plenty of clams, mussels, shrimp, and scallops. The flat bread pizzas are also very good(according to our niece). Rosemary mojitos: excellent. Desserts are also great. I had the crema catalana, which is like a crème brulée but with subtle cinnamon and orange flavors — I have a new favorite dessert! Churros come with the requisite chocolate sauce, as well as a delicious caramel ice cream. Really can’t go wrong with any of the desserts. My one criticism would be that there are not many gluten free menu options. But, they made up for it with the incredible paella and the crema! :)

If you’re entering Viejo San Juan from the bus terminal, then this restaurant corner is most likely the first restaurants you’ll encounter. Because of Toro Salao’s prime location in the town, we mistakenly thought that this was a notorious tourist trap. I mean, it had excellent dining area outside and there were tons of tourists eating there… So we ended up bypassing it to go to another one. Later in the evening, I was just hangry and needed something(anything, really) to eat. I noticed Toto Salao had paprika fries on the menu. I figured«All right, paprika fries should fix my hunger. This might be sucky but I’m hangry and I’ll eat anything at this point.» Paprika Fries($ 6.00) — Not exactly a fan of paprika but these fries were surprisingly good! Especially with their ketchup. The ketchup is better than the ketchup we have in the States, which is loaded with sugar! Churros($ 8.00) — RICHANDDELICIOUS. Best dessert so far in Puerto Rico(also the only one we’ve had but still)! Dip in caramel ice cream and chocolate sauce. The caramel ice cream is unique since it has a hint of toffee flavor in it. Great service and dining experience. We’re planning to come back just to try the calamari. We were originally deciding between sweet(churros) or savory(calamari). Tiebreaker decided on the churros, which we don’t regret… but on our way to the bathroom, we got a whiff of the calamari on a plate… Thus, it was decided: we’re coming back just to try the calamari. Smelled so good that it just has to taste bomb!

My favorite dining experience in Puerto Rico happened at Toro salao. Our server was excellent. I don’t know his name but he was a real sweetheart and very helpful. We told him it was our honeymoon and he was genuinely excited for us and brought us glasses of champagne to celebrate! Their passion fruit sangria was some of the best I’ve ever had. Every dish was excellent. We shared a couple of appetizers and an entrée and every bite was outstanding. Dessert was also a major highlight. My husband had the churros which were warm and crispy and so flavorful, and my cheesecake was clearly homemade, and totally delicious. I would come back again for dessert alone! Old San Juan is cute, albeit touristy, but Toro salao made the day extra fun and special.

We decided to try Toro Salao on a recommendation of a local who ran into us while discussing where to eat. He seemed to be rather informed on menus and we guessed he worked at a restaurant. We were seated on the outdoor patio on a Tuesday evening rather quickly. It took only a few minutes to be attended to. We ordered a pitcher of the white sangria on the advice of the server and we were glad we did… it was fantastic! We ordered three tapas selections; the ham croquettes, artichoke and crab dip and another which I can’t remember. All of it was awesome. Total bill without tip was 59

After dinner we decide to take a walk in San Juan we were looking to sit relax & have a few drinks we came across this place & decide to give it a try. Nice place, dimly lit with plenty of seating outside, downstairs & upstairs, outside was full so we sat at the bar. After looking over our choices & trying two of the Sangrias the Toro & Passion Fruit we decide to go with the Passion Fruit. The Passion Fruit sangria was very good, nice taste very refreshing, could use more alcohol but it was still pretty good this was our choice for the night. Since we had come from eating didn’t get to try any of the food, something to maybe look forward to next time specially since everything smelled pretty good. The bartender was really nice, she was pleasant & talkative always nice to come across. Price wise it was decent since we just had drinks our bills wasn’t too crazy. We enjoyed our drinks & if visiting San Juan again I wouldn’t mind coming back.
