Coming here just to order an ice tea to go one lady was very helpful while another was rude trying to make me wait a half hour and needing to sit at a table for an ice tea to go… smh! upon informing the First Lady how was helpful she took my order quickly! I’ll remember that girl next time so I make sure she is never my server… In general this is a good place to. Real tea! Watch who serves you…

I read the great reviews on Unilocal about this breakfast spot and decided to check it out. It was in another cool area of Old San Juan so I was able to check out some other cool local attractions. I passed by so many cool cobblestone streets and colorful buildings with balconies. When I arrived I was shocked that it wasn’t crowded on an early weekday. I sat in the middle of the restaurant and enjoyed the décor and cozy feeling of the place. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They let me charge my phone while I waited for my food. Again, there were sooo many food and tea options to chose from, that this was the time that I wished I had someone with me so I could taste their dishes and compare. I finally decided on the tea of Jamaica that had a very pretty burgundy color but that was it. I wasn’t a fan of the flavor even after trying to spruce it up to how I drink my regular tea. For breakfast, I ordered half of the big breakfast that consisted of half a waffle, egg, cheese and prosciutto. I have an average appetite so when I saw they offer half meal options I thought the portions would be huge and I didn’t want to carry leftovers. To my dismay, the portions were a lot smaller than I anticipated and I wish I would’ve ordered the full size. Nevertheless, my waffle was pretty good and I wasn’t a fan of the way they prepared my egg, The meal temporarily satisfied my hunger but I knew I would need a light snack before lunch. Overall I had a great experience and if I returned, I would try a different full sized dish with a different flavor of tea that I’ve never tried before since I love teas,

Unique restaurant in that it’s pretty much everything waffle. Waffles were too hard for my taste and the service was mediocre. Had to wait a while after being seated to order. Wouldn’t probably go back, but worth trying.

Came here while on vacation we tried this place out. Lots of good options both sweet and savory and really great service. Also the coffee is brewed In a cool way and is really good. Take a short walk in old San Juan before you head to the forts and eat breakfast here !

I came to this place today for a late breakfast/brunch since i was craving some waffles and pancakes. This place has 27 different flavors of tea and without too many thoughts I got the assam tea since I am just biased towards Indian tea. It was a little light than the tea I am used to but it was great nonetheless. I got the savory waffles for a change and got the regular ones with green eggs on top and it has been my best breakfast in PR so far. Its got a great ambience as well, low lit but not dull and definitely worth a visit if you are in Old San Juan!

Cutesy quaint almost easy to miss place. The food to say the least is amazing! The waffles are perfect! U gotta pay for every topping and even maple syrup. But don’t think twice its well worth it! And the eggs and waffles are prolly the best I have ever eaten! Gracias! Parking is a pain to find on a weekend!

It’s really a cute spot for a trendy brunch. Outside seating on the patio and lots of fans for air. Get a couple half size waffles to Split. We had the green eggs and ham and the big breakfast waffles. The big breakfast was slightly tasty due to the sweet/savory contrast.

The variety if waffles and tea was good. We went in a group of 11 and the service was very slow. The portions were smaller than expected. The desert waffles were yummy.

Looking through a magazine, where some relatively new restaurants were featured, I saw an article on La Waffle-era. The pictures looked amazing, the place cozy and inviting, and the article made this place seem like a «must try». On a Sunday, while in PR with my sister, I decided to go, with our grandmother, for brunch. Drove to Old San Juan, walked to la Calle Fortaleza, where the restaurant is located, and walked in to see people waiting, at around noon. I gave my name and was told wait would be 20 — 30 minutes but, by the expression on the faces of people waiting I knew it would be longer. Finally, almost an hour later, they sat us down. The first thing I noticed on the menu is where they state that they don’t rush any one to leave the table after at any point. I know… I was there, again, for an hour, watching people just stare at each other, after they had paid their bill 20 minutes ago. I appreciate them not rushing anyone but, people, be considerate! Anyway… Manu consists of all things on a waffle. They call Wafflito the small size, and waffle the full size. They have things like The Big Breakfast with poached egg, serrano ham, cheese; other similar breakfast items, others with salmon, roast beef, chicken, even one called waffle-iza whish is tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Of course they have sweet waffles like S’mores, Crème Brule(this comes in only one size), Budín(like a PR bread pudding) and more. You also have the option to create your own with different toppings, like eggs, different cheeses, hams, fresh fruits, etc. Of course, if you want maple syrup, just ask. I ordered a wafflito«Green Eggs and Ham» which had a poached egg whites, filled with melted goat cheese, pesto, prosciutto and chives, of course on top of the Waffle. Unfortunately the egg was bland, and the melted cheese had not taste. I ended up switching it to a regular poached egg, added some salt and that’s when this dish was a winner. Highly recommend this one with the change I made. So, make sure you know you can change or add things to yours if you want to make it satisfying to your taste. My grandmother had the Big Breakfast which was OK, nothing special. The Waffle-iza, was disappointing, in my opinion. The tomato sauce, although it says fresh, it didn’t taste like it, and it lacked flavor. The Pes-tomate(pesto, tomato and feta cheese) is another one I would recommend, without any changes. Tastes almost like a Caprese Salad, very light and fresh. They specialize in coffees and teas. One of the attractions, is the blooming tea. I’ve been wanting to try one of these for a while now so, I immediately ordered it. Nope, they were all out. I was very disappointed, plus they close at 6pm, and it’s only noon. I think they should have prepared better. So, I ordered another tea, all out as well. Since, I already had coffee when I woke up, and I was there for«brunch» I went with a mimosa, they prepare it well. Service was OK. She was friendly but it felt more like a job than sincere, and you can see all the workers talking among themselves, and joking even when the place is full and people are waiting. I think that’s a little rude and unprofessional. Needless to say I have mixed feelings about this place. I have some things that I absolutely loved but others that were very disappointing. I am glad I tried it, and if you love waffles I say go ahead and do the same but, in my opinion, and, in the words of my grandmother, «it’s not worth repeating». So a generous 3 stars is what I’ll give them, because some of the food and the cozy place is worth at least one visit.

I’m not one to try new things, but my husband is lol. I ordered a half, plain waffle with bacon and strawberries on top. It was very good. The waffle itself is delicious, even without all the sugar filled toppings. My husband on the other hand had the el caneloide. It was a waffle covered with pecans, cinnamon, cream cheese, maple syrup, and honey! He absolutely loved it. I couldn’t get a picture of his because he ate it so fast lol.

You shouldn’t leave Old San Juan without having brunch at Waffle-era at least once… though you’ll probably be back again after seeing their creative mix of savory and sweet waffles. I love that they serve both whole and half waffles as well as letting you create your own waffle from a long list of quality ingredients for both sweet and savory dishes. It’s nearly impossible to make yourself a bad waffle, so it’s a fun way to play chef for a bit. They’re a little on the pricier side, but it’s a nice spot to treat yourself at. Waffle-era’s tea selection is wonderful, they really have something for everyone. You can choose from classic green tea to spicy teas and everything in between. They’re very quick with your order so it’s a great place to stop in if you’re in a hurry and have to catch a plane afterwards like I did. Check out for the full review plus more photos and feel free to drop a comment if you have a question. Salomé Luna Gemme

I’ll start off by saying the service was great and I have no complaints about that. Getting that out of the way, I’ll start with the coffee. I was expecting a lot more for a house speciality coffee in Puerto Rico. It had a more american style to it, not strong at all. The concept of the waffles is very nice, and they have a few options divided into sweet or salty. The thing is that the waffle was very airy and spongy, more like a pancake. I ordered mine with bananas and chocolate syrup and it almost didn’t have any syrup.

During our recent visit to San Juan, my friends and I were looking for a place to grab some brunch before our visit to El Morro. We were looking for a place fairly close to the fort so we can also explore what Old San Juan had to offer. We finally stumbled across Waffle-era Tea Room, a quaint little restaurant with an English vibe. This place focuses on waffles(sweet and savory) and fresh steep tea. The place was pretty busy, but we were able to snag a table for five in about 15 – 20 mins. We were greeted by our waitress shortly and were educated on how the menu works. For food, I ordered a half waffle of the Pink Pam’s(smoked salmon, goat cheese, and tomatoes) and a glass of the tropical tea blend(combination of hibiscus, lemongrass, orange peel, and rosehips). The waffle was cooked perfectly: chewy on the inside while having a slightly crispy exterior. The combination of the salmon, goat cheese, and tomatoes worked well with each other. I also really enjoyed my tea choice. It was bold and refreshing; a great compliment to my waffle choice. The service, on the other hand, was a complete nightmare. The waitresses were nice, but not attentive. It took our waitress over 20 minutes to come back to take our order, another 45 minutes for our teas to come out and yet another 10 more minutes for our food to come out. The restaurant also wasn’t fully circulated, so it was hot, humid, and stuffy. It was such an uncomfortable environment. To keep hydrated, we all downed our glasses of water but it was never refilled again. Even though the food was good, I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you are willing to wait over an hour to be able to eat. I loved the concept of this place which made it really disappointing that the service couldn’t have been better and food/drinks couldn’t come out at a reasonable time.

The coffee specially brewed resulted in an american style which is light to my taste. Probably the tourists will like it more than me and their specialty seems to be teas not the coffee. The waffles were good, I tried the savory ones, big breakfast and salmon, although the green egg ordered by my wife was so so. Service was good considering that place was packed.

This was a great place in Puerto Rico that we could eat at. It’s a teahouse that serves food as well. I would say they pride themselves on their waffles. I had a waffle with cream cheese and maple syrup and pecans. I had a cappuccino and a cold fresh green tea. The atmosphere was unique and comfy. They did not have air conditioning but they had fans. I would recommend going back to this place.

#CulinaryHedonism. The menu is divided into: Savory or Sweet, which was such a fun choice to have. I picked«savory» and ordered the salmon waffle. It was one of the very very few meals in my life where I had to eat is sloe because I didn’t want it to end. You must go here! Totally worth the wait!

Seriously the best waffles i will probably ever eat. If you’re looking for breakfast look no further. Plus, their tea and coffee selection and brewing methods are untouched by any other place I’ve seen. really good stuff. My wife got the crème brûlée waffles which were unlike anything I’ve ever had. So sweet and delicious. I got the Pami’s breakfast waffle which was strawberries, bananas, and blueberries on top of yogurt on a huge waffle. It was really good. If I’m ever back in old San Juan I will surely come here again.
