Great experience at Casa Cortes ChocoBar. Kids loved the frozen hot chocolate, while mom and dad enjoyed a chocolate grilled cheese. Thank you Juan Carlos!

Love this place! Have lived in the area for 2 years and always thought this was a tourist trap. I was wrong! We have been twice, once for cocktails(heaven!) and once for brunch. When we came for cocktails we had the privilege of meeting one of the owners who told us the history of the chocolate and the family. Chocolate is incredible, as is the espresso martini! The chicken sandwich was fantastic, I ate half before snapping a picture! The chocolate filled croissant is out of this world! And the best part, the service was top notch!

Clean and bright atmosphere with great service! The aroma of coffee and chocolate lured us in! We ordered a quick espresso and some chocolates. The front hostess, Diarya(sp?)was especially welcoming and friendly! She gave the kids samples of their hot chocolate which can be served either hot or cold. Be sure to check out the upstairs museum!

THISWAS A MUST for us in PR. We finally tried it and it was good. We were greeted by a really friendly host and he led us to our table. He promptly came and took our orders. We got the chocolate grilled cheese, the mallorca sandwich, ice«hot» chocolate, and these little ham poppers(it was on the appetizer list). The chocolate grilled cheese was not my favorite, but still delicious none the less. My BF enjoyed his sandwich and our iced drink hit the spot on this SUPER hot day. The best part were those poppers. They had manchego cheese sprinkled on top and a great tomato garlic dipping sauce to go with it. One thing I wished was that there was more and that the portion was a little bit bigger. I’d come back just for those.

The coquito(alcoholic) and classic choco frio were DELICIOUS! It was hard to savor it all because you wanted to take it down so quickly. Super yummy. Our server Juan Carlos(JC) was also super attentive and wonderful.

Unsure of our waitress //bartenders name(because we sat at the bar seats) but she was so sweet! She explained all the different drinks, brought us out samples of both cold and hot drinks, and gave us her personal recommendations. All the qualities of good service. We ended up trying the passion fruit iced chocolate which was amazing! And the churro trio that came with three dipping sauces. Churros are made fresh and you can see into the kitchen where they deep fry it. Soooo good! Definitely a nice place to stop into during a hot day.

The boyfriend and I came here and tried an espresso, café con ledge, and churros flight(which came with a hazelnut, chocolate, and strawberry marmalade sauces). Everything was delicious and the service was great! If you’re ever in Old San Juan, definitely take the time and visit! And ask for Juan Carlos! He’s awesome!

Got here after reading raving Unilocal reviews about this place. I ordered tostada jamon, chocolate churros, and lava cake… my goodness. That sh*t was so f**ken delicious. It took my breath away. Also our waiter Fernando was so friendly, great service!

Disclaimer I was starving after walking around the fort all morning and by 3pm we were ready to eat! We came in and were promptly seated by our server JC Rodriquez. After reviewing the menu we ended up deciding to try a variety of foods: 1. pre-fix menu for restaurant week in San Juan: lentil salad, cocae salmon over green rice and chocolate cake. Sounded like a good deal for 20 dollars… but portions were tiny and I was starving 4⁄5. 2. grill cheese chocolate spread everyone on Unilocal raves about how good this and it was barely any cheese or chocolate… so mostly tasted like toast with thinly spread Nutella 2⁄5 3. Churros we order 6 with 3 sauces. Very small churros and sauces were ok. Overall for a chocolate shop I expected better chocolate. Service was great, very Americanized tho.

Three full days of trekking around Old San Juan means three enthusiastic visits to the ChocoBar. Each day we had the ChocoFrío and on one occasions we tried the Choco pizza. Great place for breakfast. This was also the first time we were there on a Saturday later in the day and on a Sunday around brunch time and the place gets packed. I discovered this place in November 2013 and ever since, every time we travel to Puerto Rico, we always visit and we are always delighted.

We came for dinner our very first night in San Juan. Boyfriend ordered the grilled cheese and I ordered the chicken. The hot chocolate was TODIEFOR. Like Christine N commented, there were a lot of options, some included a heavy dose of chocolate, others none at all. The prices varied as well. Food was good, drinks were good, service was good. For whatever reason, the atmosphere was much more casual than I was expecting, but they still had meals in the $ 20 range for dinner. My vibe was that this is a better choice for brunch than for dinner, but we still enjoyed ourselves. It’s definitely a fun and worthwhile tourist stop in San Juan.

The cold chocolate is divine! We stopped in here after a late lunch to get some dessert. Unilocal led us in the right direction. We were going to get churros or the brownie, but each opted for a frozen hot chocolate instead. The one I got was the one with pinot noir. The flavors of the pinot noir and chocolate paired well together. My only wish is to omit the ice cream because it became too heavy for me. I could barely drink half of it. My friend got the one with a shot of espresso in it. It was perfection because the bitterness of the espresso cut the sweetness of the chocolate. Décor is cute, with chocolate molds lined on one wall. The chocolates in the case in the front looked delicious, but we were full from our cold chocolates. Would highly recommend a stop in here for dessert(we had lunch elsewhere).

Chcolate Cortes is my favorite chocolate when making hot chocolate or chocolate limber since I was younger. When I heard they had a restaurant I knew I had to checl it out and it didn’t dissapoiny. We had the chocolate grilled cheese and a chocolate hazelnut croissant. Oh my gosh, it was amazing! The cheese and chocolate mixed very well. Giving ut that sweet and salty combo. The croissant was warm and it had a dark chocolate sauce on the side which complemented the crwaminess of the hezelnut chocolate. Also, the café con leche was very good and had a beautiful design. Everything was delicious and very satisfying. The server was nice and the service was quick. They even give you a free chocolate bar when you check in which was also super delicious. Will definitely be back when I visit Puerto Rico.

Service is really good. We were soooo overwhelmed with all the different choices and options(not necessarily a bad thing). Our waitress Patria was super nice(especially bc she had to come back to our table three time, we were so undecided!) and super helpful with all our questions about each of the dessert options. We finally settled on a café con leche(smooth and creamy), a chocolate and hazelnut croissant, and coconut nibs. All of which were delicious!

I feel a bit mixed on this place — it’s super clean, sparkly new design, and quite hip. The hot chocolate and various chocolate beverages were incredibly decadent and delicious. I definitely recommend if you need your chocolate fix(and a pit stop) or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. The brunch is a bit underwhelming — it’s very expensive($ 16/plate… in San Juan? And $ 12 for a mallorca — i.e., a ham and cheese on croissant) and most of the entrees feature chocolate woven into the ingredients(i.e., even in eggs Benedict). I think the price per plate is too steep for the quality and there are a lot of great places nearby with even fresher ingredients. At that price point I’m expecting a more opulent ambience.
