Indische Gaumenfreuden beim Spalentor
Das Restaurant Mandir ist eines meiner indischen Lieblingsrestaurants. Ich bin seit Jahren zufriedener Stammgast. Mittags (montags bis freitags) gibt es ein Tagesgericht inkl. Salat oder Suppe sowie Reis und Gemüsebeilage für überaus preiswerte CHF 16.90! Abends ist es etwas teurer, aber immer lohnenswert. Jedes Gericht hat seine ganz eigenen Aromen und Gewürznoten, die sich wie ein Feuerwerk am Gaumen entfalten … Man kann zwischen 5 Schärfegraden wählen von ganz mild bis feurig-​scharf.
Seit ein paar Jahren ist das Mandir im Hotel Spalenbrunnen an der Schützenmattstrasse 2, ganz in der Nähe des Spalentors. Der Gastraum ist für mich eine wahre Wohlfühloase: warme Farben in Orangetönen, edel ohne steif zu wirken, kein Schnickschnack und dennoch mit erlesenen indischen Einrichtungsakzenten.
Gekrönt durch ein sehr freundliches und kompetentes Restaurant-​Team ist das Mandir einfach jederzeit einen Besuch wert! :-)

Mandir is a very pleasant surprise. Great Indian food. We had beef vindaloo, Raga (?) lamb, tandoori chicken and aloo gobi. All the food was well spiced and delicious.

Wir waren vor ein paar Tagen hier Mittagessen. Es war ok. Mehr aber auch nicht. Ich konnte beim besten Willen nichts spezielles an diesem Essen finden. Kurz gesagt, es fehlte die Liebe zum Essen.
Die Bedienung war freundlich und zuvorkommend, aber wir werden trotzdem nicht mehr hier her kommen.

Had Valentine’s Day dinner here last night. Walked in at 7pm on a Saturday night without reservations and the place wasn’t too busy, but was packed by the time we left. Ordered 3 dishes, one veggie, the chicken tikka masala, and finally the best one– saag gosht. It was plenty for the two of us (one being a big eater, both of us starving). Naan was fresh and so good that we ordered an extra portion. Overall, good value for the money (for Basel), relaxed atmosphere, fast service. Our bill came to just under 100 CHF without the wine.

Only one data point so far, but I think this is my new fav for Indian. Portion sizes were just right, food was well prepared and presented, and the staff worked well together. Plenty of seating also.

Ich war heute zu Besuch in Basel und da ist mir dieses Restaurant bei Unilocal aufgefallen. Die Location ist recht gross aber es waren wenige Leute da. Die Mittagskarte bietet eine gute Auswahl zu moderaten Preisen. Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Bedienung sehr zuvorkommend.

While in Basel, I was taken by my Swiss colleague, to this restaurant. So, as the saying goes — ’ The proof of the pudding is in eating.’, I decided to let him know how good it is.
So, as I visited this place, I just liked its minimalistic décor, which wasn’t too distracting and quite comfortable. it was spacious and hence the next table across you is not close enough that you end up eavesdropping.
The restaurant is run by Indian family coming from North, and therefore I was having high expectation with quality of food. I ordered — ’ Rogun Ghost’ and ’ Mint chicken masala’. The very first bite, was enough for me to claim the delicacy and closeness with authentic Indian dishes. it was as if I am having my dinner somewhere in India. Boy, it was really special. And one of the few restaurants, for which I can travel from Munich to have my lunch /​dinner.
The owner is very humble person and guess he has learns the traits of Swiss hospitality really well. We had a good chat. Knowing my roots he did made our dish quite special. But let me assure you, if you savor Indian food, you will looooove this place. I was also told this one is the best Indian restaurant in Basel. The service was outstanding, for which you don’t mind being generous on leaving high handed tips.
Visiting this place, just cemented my believe in Swiss hospitality and their quality service. Besides all this, food is awesome. So my every penny of recommendation on it.

Located across from the Basel university. This restaurant has great Indian food. Their naan bread is superb. The daal is great. Their curries are equally good. I’ve been here a few times and have never been disappointed. You can ask for a spicy version of whatever you order & they will accommodate.

Man wird rasch und freundlich bedient und das Essen schmeckte stets hervorragend. Das Restaurant verfügt auch über einen Hauslieferservice.
Nicht besonders gefällt mir die typische Inneneinrichtung und die beengten Platzverhältnisse.

3** für das Essen, freundliche bedienung, die Indische Dame bedient im langem indischem Rock das find ich eine gute idee! aber das Restaurant selber ist nach meinem Geschmack hässlich eingerichtet, halt so wie ein schlauch, die Tische dicht nebeneinander… wer möchte kann draussen sitzen, aber da hatt mann direkte sicht zur Hauptstrasse mit Tramverkehr… also für das Ambiente vergebe ich 1! egal wie gut mann isst, und wie freundlich mann bedient wird, schlussendlich ist die Umgebung auch wichtig! ausser könntich mir vorstellen wenns mahl schnell gehen muss während der Mittagszeit, dann spielt es vileicht nicht so eine groose Rolle! insgesamt gebe ich dem Mandir 3*

Top indisches essen zu relativ teuren preisen. Reservierung nötig

Best Indian food in Basel, and whilst not the cheapest, certainly the best value for money. Never once gone home hungry! I eat here most weeks, and even on the odd lunchtime. The lunchtime menu offer great value (from Chf 12), and has a decent selection as well as the dialy special. I love Friday’s after work and a couple of beers in here most. Amrik and his staff welcome you to his restaurant with enthusiasm, and serve the best Indian food in town. The Lamb Gosht Kastoori or Lamb Korma Hot (nothing like a UK Korma) are my favourites, but there is also a very good Fish Masala or Chicken Murg Makahna — price is around CHF 28 for main dish and rice, which represents fair value in Basel — I love it!

Beeindruckende Küche. Vielfältig und lecker und ein freundlicher Service. Einziger Nachteil: Immer voll. Rechtzeitig reservieren.

für mich das beste indische restaurant in basel. immer voll und eine reservierung ist zu empfehlen. der raum ist klein und man sitzt sehr eng beieinander. die geräuschkulisse ist erheblich. aber das essen ist ein wahrer traum. sehr scharf und preislich ok. unbedingt das lassi probieren!
