One day in Geneve and looking to try Fondue? This is the place. It has the home-y locals only feel. The people were warm and accommodating. I don’t speak French and we used a combination of hand gestures and the Google Translator on my phone to communicate — they were so patient with me. We ordered the tomato fondue, which came with a side of boiled potatoes and a hardy bread for dipping and we also had this chicken and mushroom dish in puff pastry. Everything was delicious. 3 stars for the food, plus an extra star for service.

I was in Geneve for a month training for my job. Winter in Geneve? Thinking fondue maybe? But where? I asked a coworker who was born in Geneve and after asking where I was staying he immediately said«Au Vieux Carouge»(this is the name actually on the sign outside). Don’t expect a «fine dining» experience. You may be seated at a four person table where there are already two people seated. The owner may not cozy up to you(especially if you don’t speak much French) and definitely don’t try and go there if you don’t have a reservation(no matter what day it is). But what you will get is the opportunity to experience how the Swiss do fondue. It was the best fondue I’ve ever had. They even know how to get the tasty burned part off the bottom of the pot. FYI don’t try to do it yourself. Just enjoy the local culture and let it flow. One funny thing, my wife’s hot tea was more expensive that my white wine. Go figure.

Outstanding fondue. Definitely the best in my view in Geneva. Can be very noisy but great fun as tables tend to talk to each other. Be careful only cash.

If you’re in Geneva and looking for one of the top fondue houses don’t miss out on this place! Don’t expect a fancy restaurant, but It’s very down to earth and cozy. Seating is tight and a little suffocating but the fondue makes it all worth it!

We arrived here after snowboarding and apparently after sitting down, they said they don’t serve the fondue until 6:30pm. So we said we’d come back in half an hour and moved our car closer as it was freezing. Apparently this place is the Go-To place for Fondue and gets pretty freaking busy. There were already tables reserved with pieces of paper on the table when we got there. Crazy right? We sat down again after coming back and decided to get drinks as it’s apparently frowned upon if you just ask for water. We opted for hot tea(Lipton Yellow Label for 3.60 Swiss Francs). Then we ordered the mushroom fondue(Fondue aux bolets — 27-ish Swiss Francs). The bill for the drinks came in this tiny bucket. Apparently at the end they take this and add it to what you’ve ordered in terms of food. I guess it’s in case you want more drinks or more food then they can keep track as they probably get busy. The bread first came out and then the melty pot of hot cheesy goodness. The cheese was a bit on the salty side and very gooey initially. The bread complimented it very well. After a while, the cheese got to a thick almost mozzerella-ish consistency which meant eat fast otherwise it’s going to be hard. The bill was a bit weird though… or more like how we got change. The waiter went to a purse and pulled out a wallet where he got change. I guess it’s the owner’s but it’s like they don’t have a cash register at all, just something that totals bills. Pretty interesting… For my first cheese fondue, it was delicious. It would definitely be a treat once in a while.

I went there Friday 24th October. the restaurant was pretty full, but the owner asked to wait a few minutes to accommodate us. I took only one dish which was a beef tartare very well seasoned and served with a green salad, tomato salad and potatoes. For desert I had a white chocolate and orange mousse which was very interesting. The person who was with me had a light diner with foie gras for first and a cooked one for main course. We had 2 glasses of wine each and a coffee. We paid CHF140.- including the tip which is quite reasonable for Geneva and the quantity served. My last comment, the restaurant is non smoking, and was full, that is a very good point to eat without the cigarettes, cigars, etc
