Nice and modern restaurant with good Thai options and vegetarian friendly menu. Will definitely visit again!

My meal at Cha Cha made me sad. After spending a whole week in Switzerland, I was craving a good Asian meal. There was no doubt that I was so excited to find out that ChaCha is located right across the street from the Radisson Blu where I’ve been staying. When I walked into the restaurant, I liked the vibe. Long community tables with bright and modern décor-hip, upscale, but casual. The wait staff was not particularly friendly, but efficient. The menu was pretty comprehensive with typical selections found in a Thai restaurant(comparing to the Thai places in the US). I ordered chicken satay, Tom yum goong, and a bowl of jasmine rice. First the chicken satay arrived– I looked at it and thought ‘hmm, interesting looking skewers’. Well, it was interesting because the chicken on the skewer were not grilled, they were breaded and pan deep fried! I would have let it go since who can complain about fried food– however, I couldn’t let it go because the chicken was so dry and bland. The dipping sauce tasted like the masala marinate that the chicken should have been marinated in– but it was served in a running gel like sauce for dipping. It wasn’t good. Then, the tom yum and jasmine rice were served. The jasmine rice was cooked perfectly. Broken, aromatic, fluffy and good. The Tom yum on the other hand, broke my heart! The soup had no flavor of lemongrass, cilantro, or onion. It was extremely sour and the base was just a diluted tomato broth. It was also very strange that the soup was topped with a bell pepper slaw. The whole bowl tasted like a really sour, bell pepper flavored warm tomato water with a few pieces of mushrooms and chicken. I was starving but I couldn’t finish my dinner. Perhaps the flavors were modified based on local preference, since the place seemed popular and busy. But it was definitely not for me. I would also caution those who like the way Thai food is flavored in the US and Asia to not expect the same flavor profile here. So disappointed in this meal. Light at the end of the tunnel was that I returned home just a day after this meal, and I made a straight line to my local hole-in-the wall Thai take out– I needed to mend my broken heart.
