San Marco Zug AG

DON’T GO HERE… Forget this place. All they are doing is milking the fact that they sit on the edge of a lake. Go there for a coffee if you wish, but i would never recommend eating there. A friend and I went there on a Tuesday evening. Restaurant was fairly busy and tgey had one grumpy waiter. Sat for ages waiting for an acknowledgment and to be asked if we wanted a drink, or were ready to order. Same with three other tables of diners next to us. Food was mediocre, they got my order wrong — but i did not feel like waiting again for an age so just ate it. Surly, inattentive staff, ridiculously bad service, average food. Plenty other places to go spend your money at.

I accompanied my husband on business and had Zug, and Old Zug all to myself while he worked. I was wandering through the completely empty beautiful streets of Old Zug by myself and came upon this quaint place right on the waterfront. It was full of couples but no matter, it was cozy and I was hungry! The waiter spoke english and was the first person I came across where I didn’t have to try to communicate in my butchered German Swiss or Italian — quite confusing for everyone involved! Anyway, he made me feel right at home, recommended a great bottle of chianti (Toscana Santa Cristina Chianti Superiore DOCG ²⁰¹¹⁄₁₂ Antinori 75 cl or 41.00 CHF Traubensorten: Sangiovese, Merlot) and I settled in to take in the views of Zugersee which are simply majestic! I ordered the Insalata caprese con mozzarella di bufala (18.50 CHF)

I finished my meal with an espresso and was more than satisfied — thank god for the late hour and the long walk back to the Park Hotel in the newer part of Zug because I definitely overindulged!

Die Lage ist schön, ohne Frage. Der Service war zwar freundlich aber sehr unaufmerksam (fehlende Speisekarte, leere Gläser) und wir haben fast eine Stunde auf den Hauptgang gewartet. Das Lokal war aber unter der Woche am Abend nicht übermäßig voll, dass man das akzeptieren könnte. Die Portionen sind okay, die frische Pasta sehr lecker.

Decent food at what seems like reasonable prices in a very expensive country! On a great summer’s day, you can sit outside and enjoy the sun next to the lake.
The seafood risotto is excellent full of succulent seafood and a sizeable portion too.

Gorgeous, thin crusted pizzas Very kind (and child friendly) waiter Decent wine by the glass Excellent, lakeside location. This is a great little place and one that we’ve gone back to a few times now.

das einzig positive ist die lage direkt am see. wunderschön den sonnenuntergang zu geniessen.
der rest aber ein flop: das personal mit zu offensichtlicher freundlichkeit unsympathisch, unaufmerksam und unkompetent. das essen mittelmässig, die pizza sogar ein oberflop!
wer feine italienische kost und gute weine mag und professionell bedient werden will, empfehle ich das restaurant «fischmärt» am fischmarkt 15 (50 meter nebenan).
