After wandering through Zurich’s old town for a little bit, my wife and I decided to stop by and grab a quick bite here. We weren’t really sure if anything else was open, so that was really the basis of our choice. That said, the lady behind the counter was very helpful(and had good English!) to help us place our order, and picking and choosing items was a cinch. The food(at least at lunchtime) is served more buffet-style, with a 100 grams costing 4 francs(or thereabouts). I ended up grabbing a glass of local white wine with my lunch(somewhat regretful about that — it did not taste that good), and we seated ourselves at one of the high-top tables on the ground level(there is a small upstairs seating area as well). In all — it was a pretty comfortable eating experience. I went with the beef stew, which was definitely well-flavored, although some of the cuts of meat were a bit chewier /fattier than I would have liked. The jambalaya, while passable and filling, is a bit on the bland side, and I didn’t really get any kind of meat — shrimp, sausage, or otherwise — in it, leading me to believe that it’s really more just rice that is flavored kind of like jambalaya. My wife’s quiche was okay(I felt the slices we had in France were better), and the madeleine cookies that we got for dessert were also just average, if not a bit on the dense side. The experience was good, and you’re not far from the river or wandering further into the old town, so the location is pretty nice and central. To me, it typified my experience to date with Swiss food — fairly average and relatively expensive for what you are getting.

Came here on Boxer Day, one of the few places open. Friendly staff, delicious options of soups, sandwiches, hot entrees and salads.

Came across this café by chance. My wife and myself needed a hot drink to warm up from the cold day. Very glad we stopped in for a coffee and snack. My wife ordered a cheese tart(CHF3.00) and I got the cinnamon roll(CHF4.00). The coffee was CHF4.50. Everything was very reasonably priced for Zurich. The food was delish! My wife loved her tart. My cinnamon roll was one of the best I’ve eaten. It was more cake like than bread like which in my opinion made it so tasty. The staff speak perfect English and are super friendly and helpful. I would definitely come again when I return to Zurich.

I popped in here to get a few things for my hotel room. I was told the cinnamon buns are the best in the world. I bought one just because I felt the employee was going beyond the call of duty in saying so. I also bought a small quiche. The quiche was excellent but I’ll be damned: she wasn’t kidding — that cinnamon is the best cinnamon bun in the world! Fantastic place!

New restaurant in the middle of old town which is always welcome. You order at the counter and pick prepared foods of what you want. They dish up the food for you and you pay by weight. Turns out to be decently priced for Zurich — my plate was 16CHF(see photos). Their food selection is healthy stuff — grains, salads, etc but they’ve also have meat and fish options as well. Also appreciated it was open on a Sunday. Because of its location, it’s a great place for a coffee and people watching. They also have newspapers to read there… most in German but one(FT) in English.
