LiDL

Compared to Denner, Migros, and COOP; Lidl is the cheapest. This location has produce and meats and one of the cheapest priced produce (the cheapest produce I’ve seen so far is Barkat).

To my knowledge there are three discount grocers in Zurich: Aldi, Denner, and Lidl. I have listed the discount grocers in the order in which I rank them. Lidl is my least favorite. They do not offer anything BIO unlike Aldi which, for a discount grocer, offers a wide range of BIO items. This Lidl is very typical to the others I have been to, cluttered, kind of dingy, with dirty floors. Seriously, look down, the floors here are always dirty. I really only come here if I need something quick and am in the area. The produce can be hit or miss. They have a good cheese selection and offer several ready to eat meal options. They have a large liquor selection including hard liquor. This one, like many others, offers a large parking lot. They have a few random items like American maple syrup, which is really just the cheap stuff without any real maple. They have a small shelf of American items like cake mix and cookies all under the American brand banner. I know this is seems odd but beware the register belts. I once had a jerky belt fling a bottle of the faux maple syrup on the floor, at my feet. I was covered from the knees down in syrup. The cashier brought me a paper towel which I didn’t bother to use. Another word of caution steer clear between the hours of 3pm and 5pm, the housewives in wigs tend to be out in force and get rather aggressive with their carts. I really feel this place is only deserving of 2.5 stars.

Some think this is a cheap grocery store but I think Lidl has many variety of things that Migros or Coop offers. I’m not sure about other stuff but Lidl has same kind of dairy products including cheese, milk, egg (especially if you are looking for things having lower fat content) and etc but at lower price than these two more commonly seen stores.
I choose Lidl for Bread, especially Gipfeli… I tried Gipfeli from quite a few places and so far Lidl has the best. Lidl bakes bread a few times a day so you can get warm bread all the time.

Der Deutsche Discounter liegt in der Nähe meiner Wohnung, deshalb statte ich diesem Laden ab und an einen Besuch ab.
Die Lage ist im Industriegebiet von Alt-​Wiedikon, einige Parkplätze sind vor dem Lokal vorhanden.
Wie immer bei den Deutschen Discountern steigt einem beim Betreten ein seltsamer — in meinen Augen nicht sehr angenehmer — Duft in die Nase. Die Auswahl ist, wie bei allen Discountern, im Gegensatz zu unseren Grossverteilern, relativ klein. Auch Markenprodukte sind eher spärlich vertreten. Das Sortiment umfasst aber grundsätzlich alle Dingen des täglichen Gebrauchs. Gemäss einer Bekannten, die vom Fach ist, soll bei Discountern Obst und Gemüse besonders frisch sein. Hier soll es keine grossen Umlagekosten geben. Guter und günstiger Wein findet man auf jeden Fall auch bei Lidl.
Weiter umfasst das Sortiment auch regelmässig wechselnde, zeitlich begrenzte Sonderangebote, mit mehr oder weniger thematischen Produkten. Teilweise dienen diese aber m.E. auch lediglich als «Lockvogelangebote», was in der Schweiz ja gesetzlich eigentlich nicht erlaubt wäre. Dieses Phänomen beobachtete ich kürzlich bei einem Sektkühler, welcher gemäss Werbeprospekt ab diesem Tag verfügbar gewesen hätte sollen. Jedoch führte diese Filiale keinen einzigen Sektkühler. Auf meine Nachgrage hin bei der Verkäuferin, erwiderte diese nur, dass es in diesem Fall keine gäbe. Na dann: Willkommen in der Service-​Wüste Deutschland!

This place is a gem in Zürich! You can get a huge selection of stuff at prices much lower than at Migros or Coop. Prices could be comparable to those at Denner, but the latter tends to have a smaller selection of merchandise.
The only thing is that Lidl doesn’t stock certain items, like soymilk, peanut butter, whole-​wheat pasta, or those lovely pie/​tart wedges that I like to eat for dinner once in a while. But for the staples (and a little exotica not readily found in other stores – Mexican tortillas, American chocolate chip cookies, Schwäbisch Maultaschen, Swedish oat cookies, American marshmallows), this place is great! I love filling up my bags and then checking how little the final bill comes out to be. :D

Lidl. In Deutschland ist das ein Begriff und in den Grenzorten der Schweiz auch schon seit ein paar Jahren. In Zürich ist das noch ziemlich neu. Vor etwas mehr als einem Jahr hat eine erste Filiale in Zürich Wiedikon in der Nähe der Binz ihre Türen geöffnet.
Ich gestehes, ich bin kein Lidl-​Fan aber ich habe schon einmal da eingekauft, weil ich einfach die oft erwähnten unschlagbaren Preise ein Argument gewesen sind. Die Anfahrt macht man am besten über die Binz. Mit den ÖV ist das die S10. Vom Bahnhof Binz ist man in fünf Minuten an der Grubenstrasse, dann dieser noch etwa 200 Meter folgen und man ist inmitten der Industrieüberbleibsel des letzten Jahrhunderts. Nicht gerade eine schöné Gegend.
Der Lidl innen gleicht ebenso diesen Industriebauten. Lieblos hingestellte Paletten, man muss alles vom Boden oder grossen Regalen nehmen und die Packungen sind oft übergross. Dafür stimmt dann an der Kasse die deutsche Billig ist gut Floskel. Man spart manchmal schon 20– 30% auf die anderen Grosshändler. Was sicher nicht gerade ein gutes Bild macht sind die Verkäuferinnen an der Kasse, eher unfreundlich. Vielleicht habe ich auch nur den falschen Tag erwischt. Also Fazit. Im Lidl kaufen wer unbedingt etwas sparen will und die Webseite gibt Auskunft über aktuelle Sonderangebote.
