The Butcher

Saturday afternoon, 3:00 pm Restaurant closed, serving outside on the old town square. half the tables are empty, yet the waiting times are extreme. 15 minutes until finally got to place the order, 15 more to receive the beer, after 45 minutes, the burger is still MIA. Unacceptable
35 minutes after ordering, 50 minutes after sitting down, the burger fnally arrives.
the bun looks tasty and crispy, but to my big disappointent is even softer, more bland and much more soggy than any bun I’ve seen athe Golden Arches.
The pulled pork (by name only) was very blandm the bbq sauce wasn’t, just brownish, much too sweet but otherwise very disappointingly bland brownish slop. This had nothing at all to do with how pulled pork is supposed to taste, it’s almost anisult to pulled pork (i’used to live in Texas, I should know).
The lettuce is limply hanging down the bun, looking withered, it’s quickly discarded, the edges of the leaves are already starting to turn brown (no, not from the sloppy sauce), The slice of salad cucumber is as dry as styrofoam, no mean feat, but not a laudable one (i’dl ike to know how their ktichen gets salad cucumbers THAT dry, how many days does it take?).
Sad anecdote: Currently MIckey D offers Pulled Pork burgers and the while I really don’t like writening anything positive about the Golden Arches, THAT Pulled Pork plays in a different leage, It’s like little league baseball (Butcher) vs. World Series (sadly, golden arches). the taste, the bread, the condiments, all tastier and fresher thena at The Butcher, at half the price.
Service was friendly but businesslike and xtremely slow, too. Value for Money is really, really bad, even for Zurich. You can get good burgers in Zurich, but not at The Butcher, sorry.

The Butcher has a great location — located right next to a billiards establishment and kino abaton. The restaurant itself is huge — spacious, well decorated (for the theme in mind), and comfortable. I am personally not a big fan of communal tables, however there are also plenty of separate tables for those similarly inclined.
The burgers themselves are juicy and well prepared (although once they were undercooked and raw and had to be sent back). The choice of toppings is in my opinion rather limited, and not the largest. I love the toasted buns though, wish more places in Zürich would do this.
The fries are great in my opinion, although be warned, they may be too salty for some — ask for the spice mix on the side if you do not like very strong flavors on your fries!
Service is on the whole not the best I’ve experienced in Zürich, and seem uninterested and bored, and in general do not seem to take an effort.
All in all, there is nothing exceptional about the Butcher and the burgers served, all in all the food is overpriced and lacks depth and refinement in flavor.

OmG und wieder ein Burgerladen…
Also mal von der Aussicht mal abgesehen (schauen an eine Fenster das eigentlich nur ein Loch nach oben ist) und wir das Essen dann kaum gesehen haben, muss ich dazu sagen das ich nicht der grösste Burger Fan bin aber ich denke das ich einen gebratenen von einem rohen Burger unterscheiden kann! Also meiner war definitiv noch roh in der Mitte, dass war aber nur eins meiner zu bemängelnden Dinge. Die Pommes waren entweder dunkelbraun oder noch nicht durch. Was mir aber heutzutage wirklich missfällt ist das ich Plastikbecher zum essen bekomme obwohl wir nicht take away bestellt haben.
Mit knapp 60.- Franken für 2 Burger und zwei nichtalkoholische Getränke auch nicht ganz günstig! Leider nein, leider garnicht!

Na, also ich muss schon sagen, der Burger hat schon was. Leckere Sauerrahmsauce zu den Fritten, bei welchen man die Kräuter intensiv schmeckt. Und die Fritten selber sehr intensiv würzig, allerdings aussen knusprig und innen Kartoffelstock. Der Burger selber ausgezeichnet, und der Service nett

Ich muss leider meine Meinung von diesem Lokal wieder ändern…
Die letzten 2 — 3 Mal als wir dort waren, verliessen wir «The Butcher» jedes mal enttäuscht.
Nicht unbedingt wegen dem Essen, die Burger sind schon in Ordnung, Va der Pulled Chicken Burger mag ich eigentlich sehr.
Aber das Personal ist derart unfreundlich und die Bedienung langsam, dass es wirklich keine Freude ist, dort Essen zu gehen.
Wir meiden dieses Restaurant seither — es gibt ja so viele andere (bessere) Burger-​Places in Zürich!

Super cooles Ambiente mit enorm freundlicher, deutscher Bedienung. Wir dachte zuerst das Lokal sei leer, bis wir bemerkten, dass jeder Tisch individuell reserviert war (an einem Donnerstag Abend). Daher lohnt es sich vor 19 Uhr einzutreffen, wenn man nicht reserviert hat. Das Essen ist sehr hochstehend. Auf Burger spezialisiert mit einer Vielfalt von Kombinationsmöglichkeiten. Ich hatte einen Pulled Chicken Burger (kenne normalerweise nur Pulled Pork): Perfekt! Ebenfalls toll finde ich, dass es nicht nur eine, sondern gleich diverse vegetarische und sogar vegane Option hat. Das Lokal hat den aktuellen Trend erlickt: trendy & doch gesund. Top! I will be back

Delicious burgers, good selection of beer, left me and my friends stuffed and satisfied.
The only problem is that it’s expensive. Beer + Burger + Fries = 34 CHF.

Bester Burger den ich je in Zürich hatte! Auch für Vegis hat die Karte 4 verschiedene Burger zu bieten. Ein must-​go für Burgerliebhaber — mit oder ohne Fleisch!

This place is okay. The burgers were relatively tasty but nothing special. The price was high considering burgers weren’t accompanied with any fries. We sat outside as the weather was nice. We initially tried to sit inside which was empty and we had no idea if the place was open or not. The staff wasn’t the friendliest lot. We didn’t want to drink anything other than water and received an odd look when we said as much. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you are in finding it challenging to find decent food.

Nice burgers and excellent sides! The guacamole is missing on the Tortilla chips, which would turn them into something even more exquisite! The place is truly sustainable and all the packaging used is recyclable.

Ich war vor einigen Tagen zum Mittagessen hier und es hat sich gelohnt. Wir hatten drei verschiedene Burger, die alle sehr lecker waren und frisch schmeckten (mit einer guten Schärfe beim Jalapeño-​Burger) und selbst gemachte, bzw. selbst frittierte Tortillas, die hübsch in einer «Zeitungs”-Tüte verpackt waren.
Der gespritzte Weisse war auch gut (viel kann man da nicht falsch machen imo =)) und die Bedienung freundlich, wenn auch vielleicht etwas überenthusiastisch — man muss die Karte ja nicht runterbeten, die Specials reichen völlig. Auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.

Mal wieder ein neuer Burger Laden. Beim ersten Besuch kurz nach der Eröffnung war noch recht wenig los, inzwischen bekommt man auf der Terrasse nur noch gegen Reservierung einen Platz. Also die Gelegenheit mal den innenraum zu erkunden.
Recht gemütlich eingerichtet, aber von aussen nicht zu sehen, findet sich am ende einer schmalen Treppe noch ein Gastraum. Die Wände sind hübsch dekoritert, und die Theke passend zum ländlichen Einrichtungsstil, aber modern, gestaltet.
Die Burger sind, auch beim zweiten Besuch, immer noch sehr gut. Sowohl der Cheese und Bacon als auch der Pulled Pork sind sehr zu empfehlen.
Gibt es was auszusetzen? Gut, die Preise sind etwas höher, aber es sind immer noch nicht die teuersten Burger der Stadt. Mehr stört mich, dass die Art der Verpackung leider immer den Burger immer etwas zusammenquetscht.
… aber das sind winzige Details, die dem Geschmack keinen Abbruch tun.

die «Terasse» im Niederdorf ist sehr gemütlich. Essen war tiptop, vorallem die vielen Vegi Variationen gefielen mir.
Was ich jedoch nicht so toll fand, war das ganze Wegwerf-​Geschirr. Finde das ökologisch etwas fraglich. Vielleicht könnte man von Plastikbecher und Co. auf richtige Gläser umsteigen…

Amüsante Atmosphäre mit Terasse im Stüssihof. Wirklich sehr leckerer Pulled Pork Burger und tolle selbstgemachte Fries. Die Saucen könnten würziger sein, dafür dass sie hausgemacht sind, der Eistee dafür weniger Zucker vertragen. Insgesamt lohnenswert, aber WIRKLICH satt wird man nicht so schnell.

Natürlich muss der neuste Burger-​Tempel auch gleich dran glauben!
Zum Glück kann man draussen sitzen und das Niederdorf einatmen. Nice location!
Das ganze wird auf Blech-​Tabletts serviert, wie man sie von amerikanischen Gefängnis-​Filmen kennt. Hier sind die Tabletts aber WARM! Wie cool ist das denn?
Der Burger ist insgesamt gut gelungen, das Fleisch schmeckt, das Brötchen auch. Aber das Fleisch passt wie so oft nicht zum Brot, es hat zuwenig Durchmesser, was das essen verkompliziert.
Der Speck schmeckt gut, die Menge ist aber ziemlich dürftig. Der Käse ist sozusagen inexistent, obwohl es ein Bacon&Cheese wäre.
Und von den Fries habe ich vielleicht fünf Stück gegessen. Pfludrig, lampig, wäh.
Da hilft auch das wundersam angepriesene Gewürz nichts.
Der Leitspruch auf dem Logo ist «Healthy als fluck». Vielleicht will man das ganze healthy machen, indem die Leute nicht soviele Fries essen sollen… (ahja, und da hat sich glaubs ein l zuviel eingeschlichen ;)

Die burger und das Konzept gefallen mir sehr gut.
Lokale Produkte. Das Bier finde ich etwas teuer.

The burgers are pretty good! Actually very tasty. The patty is thick and succulent with a buttery soft grilled bun. I know they worked on the bun recipe for a while before opening, and I must say it was a great complementing piece of carb to my protein. I like that their plastic cups are made of corn and the rustic-​modern interior décor matches the food experience.
The burger prices are very fair but the add-​ons (e.g. fries) are quite steep (hence the 4 stars). The fries were seasoned well and tasty, but soggy. I guess the $ 60 price tag for 2 people (2 burgers, 1 order of fries, 2 drinks, 1 beer) is common in Zurich, but I still think it is too expensive considering that it’s still «just» a burger place.
Overall I would recommend it though — I really did like the burgers and feel of the place!

What a disappointment… enthusiastic reviews in the newspapers. So, we went there on Sunday evening… hot temperatures but the outside terrace is nice and in the shade.
The young and friendly waitress came to our table, we where a party of three, the fourth person came 5 minutes later. The 3 of us ordered drinks… just water, cause it was very hot outside. It took her 10 minutes to bring the water… in plastic disposal cups (not very environment friendly). The forth person ordered water at this time. Then we ordered food at the same time, 4 burgers — each one a bit different. After 20 minutes (!) the water has still not arrived — even though wed had reminded the waitress two times.
Then 3 burgers came… the waitress told us, which was which (there where numbers 1,2,3 on each wrapping paper. But when we bit in the burgers — we noticed, that everything was wrong, I had the Glutenfree one, my son the spicy etc. So obviously, the waitress did not know which was which!
The forth burger came after another 20 minutes (we all where already finished with ours)… the explanation was, they had a problem with the cashier system and had to do then orders by handwriting to the kitchen… to me a lash excuse. I think, she just had forgotten to order it (as she already did with the water).
My resume: compared to the rather high price I had expected a far better service and probably a little less fast food experience (paper wrapped burgers and plastic cups). The quality of the food was… ok. But other places, for example Holy Cow are much better and the price is even lower. My first and last experience at the Butcher’s.

This place is HUGE, when you enter off The Limmat (or limmatquai.?) the doors are beautiful and there are cool lights hanging on the walls and ceiling. You can see the butcher theme throughout with the variety of hanging meat hooks. There are plenty of high top tables when you first enter but when you walk past into the next room, there are lots of benches and a low ceiling. Someone must’ve painstakingly designed this place because it’s very cool and a fun place to hang out while you enjoy a burger and a drink. There is a nice outdoor space, lots of picnic table style wooden benches with umbrellas, where you can enjoy the Old Town atmosphere.
The staff was a mixed bag. The service was good but the female waitress was quite indignant when we ordered tap water. My friend said she gets that reaction every time she’s here. That’s just unnecessary because not everyone wants to order a CHF 5 – 10 beverage especially at lunchtime when we’re going for a quick bite. The burgers looked sad, but they were actually very juicy. I think it’s mostly the size of the bun that masks the contents in between that makes you think the burger looks kind of minuscule but the flavor was there and my fingers were covered in juices from even the first few bites.
The kitchen was very busy when I walked by en route to the bathrooms downstairs. It seemed really chaotic actually but there were maybe 10 tables max in the whole place at the time. Overall decent burger but wouldn’t go out of my way to go there. If I’m in the neighborhood I would stop by for a burger (around CHF 11 – 12) for the basic but skip on the fries (you get very little for what it costs, nearly $ 10! and if you compare the quantity to what you get at Holy Cow for CHF 4.50 but admittedly, this place has a more sophisticated feel than Holy Cow).

After reading the first review, I thought to try this place. I saw no one was in the restaurant so I felt a bit strange but then found out that everyone was at the upper level back outside of the restaurant. it has nice outdoor space. We got the Butcher burger and it was ok but nothing special. Burger bun was a bit oily/​buttery as it was grilled so if you like a grilled bun, you might like it.
Fries were thick and meaty … I like crispy and light fries so this wasn’t getting much points from me. In addition, it’s coming in a very small portion for 6 CHF.
Overall, it was a casual burger place but I wasn’t sure if it was a good value.

Ich hatte den Surf&Turf-Burger mit Pulled Beef und Trüffelshrimps. Die Shrimps waren frisch und knackig, das Pulled Beef aromatisch, das Brötchen buttrig und knusprig angetoastet. Der Sirup wie er sein soll. Die Bedienung merkte von selbst, dass sie die falsche Limonade gebracht hat und brachte die richtige, die aufs Haus ging. Alles richtig gemacht. Ich komme gerne wieder und teste u.a. die Churros mit Erdbeeren.
