I never appreciated the great vessel that is a pie until I met my fiancé. He is a great lover of all things that come in pie form, savory or sweet, and I stumbled upon this place while wandering with a friend and although the prices are quite high, I would say they aren’t that much more expensive than NYC bc it’s a specialty food and they are DELICIOUS. The chilli has a kick to it and there’s also chicken, beef and veggie amongst a couple others. The crust is perfection and the filling is very flavorful. It’s even great reheated at home!

Everything is delicious. If you like meat, veg, or savory pies, this is the place to get them. They also offer some delicious bakery items yet oddly, no sweet pies!!! Prices are fair, staff is friendly, annex is clean.

Great pot pies — including vegetarian eggless options. The curry pie is great. The staff are friendly. Very tasty. They are in the Im Viadukt, so come with an empty stomach!

Best steak-and-stilton pie I’ve had outside of the British Isles, one of the better store-bought chicken pies, and a few other good hits. They don’t have an undefeated record on our table (one strange curry concoction), but this makes good comfort food when you’re halfway home on the 13 or 17 trams, are soaked from a cold rainy day, and aren’t looking forward to cooking something yourself.
Having a real oven (or at least a toaster oven) will help significantly — as good as they are, these pies will still wilt a little in a microwave.
Pick up some good hearty beer at the neighboring cheese shop, and you’re ready for a night of Dr. Who, Carry On, Blackadder, Monty Python, or whatever else you miss from the UK.

Unschlüssig aber hungrig schlenderte ich in der Markthalle im Viadukt auf der Suche nach etwas Essbarem rum. Nichts machte mich so richtig an und als ich gerade wieder gehen wollte, sah ich den Stand mit den vielen kleineren und grösseren Kuchen, den English Pies.
Interessiert las ich die Speisekarte und war positiv überrascht: Chicken-Pie mit Rosinen und getrockneten Pflaumen, Pilzen und Rahm… das ist ja mal eine aussergewöhnliche Kombination. Ob das wohl schmeckt? Vorsichtshalber bestellte ich nur einen kleinen Pie, man kann ja nie wissen. Was ich nun mit Sicherheit weiss, das nächste Mal nehme ich gleich einen grossen, der Chicken-Pie schmeckte sehr gut!
The Pie Shop Markt im Viadukt ist eine gute Alternative zu Pasta, Salat oder Sandwich über Mittag! Und mit CHF 7.90 (für einen kleinen Pie, die grossen sind 12.90) auch preislich voll ok.
