Liana 1962

I decided to try this place out after walking around the plaza and seeing all the menus. The staff was very friendly, and told me about their menu of the day that many restaurants in Spain have. I got the mixed meat paella and steak and fries. Both plates were delicious, and the total was only 11 euros since it was off the menu of the day.
I would recommend this place if you want to try a restaurant in the middle of Plaza Mayor, but I’m sure there are better options around.

My sister’s name is Liana and she insisted we go here after taking 2.7 billion pictures of the restaurant. Sincerest apologies to the hosts and waiters.
So we ate outside for the whole Plaza Mayor to see how awesome my sister is for my mother naming her in such a way. We ordered tapas for the three of us: paella, gambas, langostinas, and croquettas. And of course, a pitcher of sangria. While the croquettas were great and the gambas very flavorful, the paella was just alright and the langostinas were dry and lacking flavor. The sangria was tasty and refreshing but extremely weak… maybe I’m an alcoholic but I drank five glasses and was more sober than when I came in… so…
However the atmosphere was relaxing and light and the service was kind and attentive. I would say this is one of those restaurants most «locals» would warn people about. It’s in a tourist-​concentrated area with restaurants are all lined next to each other selling the same thing with a different name smacked on it. Food is expensive and not bad, but not that great either. One way to tell you’re caught in this trap is if the menu is in several different languages (which it was). But what are you gonna do. The place was named Liana. You gotta go where they’re calling your name.

Ein Urlaub in Madrid führt jeden Touristen früher oder später zur Plaza Mayor. Dort angekommen läd das Ambiente durchaus zum Essen ein. Zahlreiche Restaurants stehen zur Auawahl. Wir hatten uns für das Restaurant Liana entschieden und waren sehr enttäuscht. Nicht nur das der Kellner kaum Englisch sprach, er war sehr unfreundlich. Meiner Freundin knallte er die Speisekarte vor die Nase, fuchtelte wild drin rum und sagte zu 90% der Karte «empty, empty, no, no…». Da wir sehr hungrig waren entschieden wir uns zu bleiben und dennoch zu bestellen. Sie: Fisch mit Gemüse und ich Macceroni Bolognese. Das Essen dauerte immerhin nur knappe 20 Minuten. Das Essen meiner Freundin war jedoch kalt und meins auch nicht gerade lecker… Sehr ölig, keine tatsächliche Bolognese. Sehr enttäuschend. Als der Kellner dann abräumte, schmiss er die mit Bolognese getränkte Serviette auf den Tisch und sagte «no paper».
Er war wohl leicht verwundert das wir keinen Nachtisch haben wollten… Man hat das Gefühl, denen ist das eh egal weil genug Touristen ihren Weg dorthin finden und mit den Touristen kann man es ja machen… Ich kann den Besuch trotz des schönen Ambiente leider nicht empfehlen.
