Taberna Kaixo

Went here from a recommendation from the owners of Bayres Beef, who we’d just had a great tapas meal. The menu here will have you going googly eyes as there’s so much to digest. We ended up getting the duck and the jamon plate along with drinks. The duck according to a few in our group was the best thing that they tasted the whole trip. It was tender and fatty and all too flavorful.
Service was good and our group left very content.

Buena opción para cenar en grupo en el barrio de las letras. La atención del personal es estupenda, en especial la de Ana que fue la chica que nos atendió. La carta es muy extensa y casi que estás obligado, una vez que pruebas la comida, a volver para probar el resto. En general platos de buena calidad y cantidad.

— antes (en 2012 o 2013) estaba muy muy bien, era muy bueno y tenía unos precios adecuados, pero tiene pinta de que ha cambiado de dueño, desde luego ahora es mucho peor que antes, poco mas barato pero comida mucho peor. Years ago it was a very nice place, but now is a complete disaster, no go to eat anymore.

Walked this narrow street on a Thursday evening by nine in the vibrant Sol area. The ambiance and menu looked inviting, so we three asked to be seated at the empty table at the window. While we were pointed a table in the back we had to ask again which did not seem to be appreciated — the numerous crew appeared a bit stressed — no no reservado! OK sorry for asking. Having been seated and while studying the menu the trampling waitress soon asked if we were ready to order which no we weren’t. One of our starters was served as quickly as we were meanwhile expecting they would be — so we started with sharing the nicely salted warm Gernika peppers. Also the rucola salad with cheese was good but we would have liked some olive oil within reach — or one of the waiters for that matter. One showed up eventually with the mix of 5 hot croquetas of which he had one clumsily slide off the slate just before reaching our table. Splat, madre mia and apologies accepted. It was kindly replaced within a few minutes. Being able to peek into the kitchen we noticed that the staff in there actually did seem to enjoy themselves — keeping the door shut to the tall bearded grumpy crew captain. Apparently we now were no longer on the schedule set for our table because the waitress already trampled by again to ask if we were ready for our main dishes which, chewing with our lips sealed, we were able to deny after a few seconds too many. Ten minutes later our main courses had cooled off to tepid and then made their way to our table — simultaneously this time! Hard to make a valid judgement on how the entrecot, duck and chicken with cheese on toast would/​could have tasted. The glass of their best Ribera del Duero was great value for money at the correct temperature but charging it as a full bottle on our bill we thought was quite overdone. The waitress who now saw her tip gambled away was quick again, being sorry. We were empathic enough to imagine.

We ordered the pork tenderloin baguette with red peppers. It was outstanding! Located on a quaint street, it’s a great place to pop in for a snack and some wine.

We stop by this place resting our sore feet before going to a flamenco dance show. The menu was pretty extensive and we thought the food would come in small plates (like Tapas) as the prices seemed low for a full dinner entrees. Man, we were so wrong! We each ordered 2 – 3 dishes and we had so much food that we left more than half of our orders untouched. In any case, the meal dishes were great, we all enjoyed the potato dishes, and we drank the last drop of our Sangria.

This was by far the best Spanish restaurant I found. On my last day there I got a free chupito (shot, not to be confused with anything sexual ;) and the service was amazing! I got the steak, the eggs with potatoes, the salad with duck, a wrap and burger! Everything was delicious. They also have cidral, very good too. If you visit Spain and want some good cuisine at a reasonable price, stop by this place. They also have free wifi if you’re a customer which comes handy if you don’t have an international plan. You can make calls from Skype! Hope that helps!

I had a Viennese café here and it was good.
I have been craving seafood, since going on holiday and so I had to eat tons of seafood.
I got their standard grilled shrimp — the shrimp didn’t absorb the olive oil and sea salt too much. It was a bit bland, but shrimp meat was good.
We sat outside on the uneven pavement and I was suffering from all the cigarette fumes.
SIGH.

This is an adorable little place that I think I would go to if I actually lived there, despite it’s fairly tourist location near Puerta del Sol. Two of us ordered the menu of the day, which for me was Hummus & Pita with a skewer of chicken over rice, and for my friend was a salad and tuna steak. My boyfriend went for the sliders, which was interesting, since it was 3 different ones (bison, pork, and some other animal which we’re still not sure what the translation was, but very much like beef). The sliders were, unfortunately, pretty tasteless. I guess that’s what we get for ordering sliders in Spain. Everything else, including the sangria, was pretty tasty; unfortunately, it was some of the SLOWEST service we had in all of europe (which is saying a lot). They were really nice when they did come by, but we waited a solid 40 min after all courses and drinks were ready before we were able to pay.

De nombre vasco y algo de comida vasca con toque moderno, en plena calle de los «restaurantes para visitantes» foráneos, Kaixo pone en su barra su surtido de tostas, pinchos y ensaladas. Con pintxos realmente buenos.
Buen menú del día por un precio algo más subido que la media que lo rodea y de algo más de calidad. Servicio correcto y atento. Si llegas hacia el final lo más probable es que algún plato del menú ya no esté disponible.
Dentro puedes estar bien tranquilo enchufado al wifi y rodeado de esos tonos oscuros y rojos que le dan un toque diferente.

Very modern and good Basque tapas bar in the city centre. The location is great and the décor is original and very nice. The menu is big, with lots of choices for small and main dishes, and prices aren’t bad given that it’s so near Sol. I had the salad with caramelized Goat’s cheese, spinach and roasted tomatoes, that was superb. I loved the sweetness of the caramelized crust in the cheese with the Balsamic vinegar.
I didn’t like that they charged extra for the bread (not so common in Spain), but altogether is a good place to try.

Junges, trendiges Bistro mit kostenlosem W-​LAN und moderner spanischer Crossover-​Küche, die durch ebenso baskisch wie lateinamerikanisch inspirierte Gerichte bereits auf der Speisekarte ihre Vielfalt demonstriert.
Zwar verstand derjenige, der die Gerichte erfand, offenkundig deutlich mehr vom Kochen, als derjenige, der sie im Alltagsbetrieb zubereitet; wohlschmeckend waren die Mahlzeiten dennoch allesamt.
Die junge, unkonventionelle und erfreulicherweise auch des Englischen mächtige Crew hat mit dem täglichen Gästeansturm am Spätnachmittag zwar sichtlich zu kämpfen; bekommt das aber eigenlich ganz gut hin.
Ein prima Ort für die eigene Touristen-​Siesta während der heißesten Stunden des Tages. Die Preise sind, gemessen an der hervorragenden Lage unweit der Puerta del Sol und den vielen nicht-​einheimischen Gästen, durchaus fair.

TRES bon restaurant. Bön choix de tapas et de tartines, avec un accent hispano asiatique ! A tester sans attendre ! NB: service un peu lent. Prévoir de prendre son temps.

Lo mejor de este sitio son las ensaladas, tostas, y txacoli. Para mi es el mejor del barrio y la relacion calidad precio es muy buena.

Ni sus tostas, ni especialidades de cocina vasca — con menú del día incluido — dejan descontento. Se come bien, a un precio moderado y se alcanza la sensación de saciedad, sobre todo en el caso de las tostas, si consumes la especial de la casa. Su arma escondida es que cuenta con conexión wifi, generalmente nadie en ese local entra con ese fin y la mayoría lo desconoce. Por lo que si estás caminando por el centro de Madrid y necesitas conectarte por la tarde, durante unas horas en las que no haya mucha concurrencia, en pocos sitios te encontrarás mejor. Ya que se trata de un local agradable, con mucha variedad para tomar un pintxo como mrienda o dejarlo en un café o té. Dispone de terraza, y es de los lugares donde se pueden tomar cervezas, vinos y copas de calidad.

Fuimos para unas tapas. Aunque el sitio no estaba lleno (menos que un 50% de las mesas dentro y fuera estaban ocupada) tardaban bastante en traernos la carta. Tomamos una ensalada de tomate, queso de cabra y espinaca y huevos de coral con patatas y chistorra. La ensalada era fresca pero poco aliñada, los huevos estaban buenos. Nada del otro mundo pero con una relacion calidad-​precio bastante correcta. El pan cobran extra, algo poco habitual en Madrid. Me imagino que sera por los precios ajustados en la carta. En suma: Sin pena ni gloria!
La ubicacion cerca de la Plaza de Sol en un callejon lleno de bares y restaurantes es muy agradable incluso para sentarse fuera.
Kaixo (como ya insinua el nombre) definitivamente no pertenece a la clasificacion latinoamericano sino es español con un toque vasco (hay una selecion de pintxos en la carta).

Normalmente no me quedo a comer por el centro, más por absurdos prejuicios que por las escasas experiencias malas que he tenido; pero a veces hay que quedarse por la zona y lo mejor es saber dónde puede uno comer bien y sin dejarse un pico. Descubrí la Taberna Kaixo por un amigo que trabaja por allí cerca y puedo decir que es de lo mejor del barrio. Ofrecen cocina vasca tradicional, con algún toque moderno (como el pato con salsa hoisin, que es increíble). Alguna vez he comido menú, pero últimamente suelo comer a base de tostas, que son realmente grandes y las hay desde menos de 4 euros. La más contundente, la tosta kaixo, lleva huevos fritos, bacon y queso, con eso como partida ya sé que con hambre no me voy a quedar, pero por si acaso suelo pedir alguna más, como la de langostinos al ajillo, que también está de muerte.

Uno de los mejores sitios en Sol tanto para comer un menú del día exquisito por 9.90, con platos mezcla de culturas y sabores, con un buen pescado; o para degustar cualquiera de sus productos a la carta, a destacar las tostas, las croquetas de jamón ibérico y las ensaladas.
Las mesas son un poco incómodas, aunque puedes tener suerte y disfrutar de la terracita en una calle tranquila cerca de todo el bullicio del centro de Madrid.
Los camareros son muy agradables y siempre te obsequian con un chupito al final de la comida, aunque es recomendable haber probado antes sus mojitos.
