I’ll be real, when we first walked in I thought I wasn’t even going to be able to drink here because of the smell. Imagine a musty, mildew-y odor that smells like a carpeted basement that’s been habitually flooding and only haphazardly cleaned for the past 15 or so years — so prepare yourself for that. It’s def a doozy, but know that there’s a reason this dive is still getting 5 stars. BEER. «The cause and solution to all of life’s problems.» ~ HJS More specifically here, $ 1.10 liters of beer. That’s right. ONEDOLLARANDTENCENTLITERSOFBEER. I’ve never loved using the metric system so much in my life. Beer is also probably a big part of the reason this bar smells the way it does(who carpets a bar that serves $ 1.15 liters of beer?), but luckily once you drink said 60-cent liter of beer, you quickly forget about the smell… and any other problems you might have. As far as the Czech Republic and our trip goes, this was the only place we found that had a truly stellar selection of stellar beers. It wasn’t like everywhere else we went where you could get a dark beer that tastes light, or a light beer that tastes lighter. Here you could taste hops, you could smell the ingredients, sips started with one mouthfeel and finished with another. They carried locally brewed beer as well American and other European craft beer. You could be drinking a liter of a semi-rare Dogfish Head beer for 60 freaking cents. It was magical. Worth noting that despite the word ‘klub’ being in the name, this isn’t a club. It’s more like annex of your old man Uncle’s run-down mancave-like basement. They only had 6 taps, I believe, but they literally had hundreds of bottles and you could BYO Food. We sat in the back area with a bunch of indoor picnic tables and walls covered in beer stickers and paraphernalia. My group of 4 ordered«a flight» which ended up coming as an entire liter of all 6 beers on tap. Of those 6 beers, there was only one that we unanimously weren’t fans of(though of course we still drank it), and of the remaining 5 we each were able to pick a favorite to suit our individual tastes. We ended up power(hour)ing through the 6 liters of beer and ordering another 2 liters to share amongst our group of four with the hopes of numbing ourselves enough to go back out into the bitter Plzeň cold. Our server(and all the patrons) were mega friendly and of about a similar age as us(30-ish with a bit of arrested development). It was pretty perfect and as far the Plzeň nightlife scene goes, this was this only place that I’d make it a point to return to if I ever end up in Plzeň again.
